During my husbands stay at Springfield, I visited him regularly (six afternoons a week), and always found him well cared for in all aspects. His room was clean and bright. The staff were cheerful and friendly, and management approachable and available.
Reply from Alison Reijman, PR Coordinator at Springfield Nursing HomeThank you so much for your lovely words about Springfield Nursing Home. It was our pleasure to look after your husband while he was in our care. We shall share your wonderful comments with all the Springfield team.

My wife was in the last stages of cancer when she came into Springfield Nursing Home. She was treated to very good care by all the staff for nearly ten weeks until she passed away. A special mention to one gentleman who looked after my wife so well, thank you.

Springfield Nursing Home has just been amazing to my father over many months of respite care. The home is led by the most committed manager, and the staff are just wonderful. They work so hard in order that the vulnerable folk receive such excellent care. I realised, from the very first day that I could
rest easy during the covid restrictions that my father was being so well cared for physically, medically, hospital liaison, and the brilliant reablement team. Thank you so much! I would recommend it highly to everyone. My father put on almost a stone in weight too!
Reply from Alison Reijman, PR Coordinator at Springfield Nursing HomeThank you so much for your wonderful review of Springfield Nursing Home. It has been our pleasure to look after your father during this extremely challenging time for all of us. It was fantastic to see him progress on his road to recovery including putting on nearly a stone! We shall share your lovely comments with all the teams who looked after him. Please keep in touch and let us know how he is getting on.

I spent time at Springfield as part of the NHS rehab programme, having had a knee replacement operation at St Mary's Hospital, Newport. I found my stay to be comfortable and the staff to be friendly and helpful. I was well looked after. The only downside to the stay, apart from the 2-week confinement
to my room due to the Covid pandemic, was the size and extent of the communal facilities in relation to the number of rooms. It was sufficient for people like me who only spent a short time there but for long term residents, I would suggest it is too restricting.
Reply from Alison Reijman, PR Coordinator at Springfield Nursing HomeThank you so much for your lovely review about Springfield Nursing Home. We are so glad you found your stay with us comfortable and you were happy with the way in which we cared for you. We appreciate your feedback about our communal facilities. Unfortunately we are limited by the age and layout of the building. However, we are very excited that our communal areas are to be refurbished in the near future. This refurbishment will help to maximise the space we have available.

I have been here before several years ago following an operation and had already experienced the care given to patients. It was a national closure, local area, closed to relatives to visit (under pre covid restrictions). I was pleased then and am equally pleased with my brief rehab care to my recovery.

Rehab from Covid-19. The staff were excellent although busy they did not neglect anything. Nurses top line, rehab team excellent. The room was comfortable, clean and warm.
The only negative was the food, very poor and the evening meal inadequate for my needs, provisioned too early and personally I
don't think soup, sandwiches, omelette, baked potatoes a good choice, I resorted to buying my own food.
Reply from Alison Reijman, PR Coordinator at Springfield Nursing HomeThank you very much for your kind words about your rehab with us here at Springfield. We do acknowledge your remarks about the food and have passed these on to the kitchen. After feedback from our residents, we decided to provide a cooked meal every lunch time but we do appreciate your requirements were possibly different from what we have on offer. However, we shall pass on your lovely comments about the staff who looked after you during your stay with us.

When I came to Springfield I was mentally and physically exhausted and if I'm honest, dreaded coming into a nursing home. However, I was so wrong. The care, physiotherapy and nursing were second to none. The staff were compassionate, very professional and looked after me in some very bad times for me.
They listened and talked to me and I leave here, sad to go, but ready to move on, but I will keep in touch, definitely.

Overall the carers are lovely but I feel the attention to detail is lacking, such as personal items, such as glasses, not cleaned. Mum was cold. There were not enough blankets on the bed. Her room gets clustered and untidy and as I cannot go in I cannot sort these things out for her. The cleaner goes
in, but her room never gets a thorough clean. She would like more cups of tea during the day. The manager and the nurses are very good. COVID has made life difficult and they have done a good job.

I am so pleased Mum is a resident at Springfield. I can't praise the staff highly enough. They all treat mum with care, kindness and love and she is very happy and well looked after. Due to the COVID outbreak, we couldn't visit mum but we knew everyone was working incredibly hard to keep the residents
safe and free from the virus. Mum never wanted to "go and be looked after" but circumstances changed and she couldn't stay at home. Springfield has become a home from home and the staff have become like an extension of our family. Our thanks to you all.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.519)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.519) out of 10 for Springfield Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 32 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 30 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.519 for Springfield Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (233 Excellents x 5) + (100 Goods x 4) + (21 Satisfactorys x 3) + (7 Poors x 2) + (3 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 364 Ratings = 4.519
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Springfield Nursing Home is based on 30 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 62 registered maximum number of service users is 12.4, which has been reached with 30 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Managers Joined: 2026

Joining Springfield Nursing home in January 2026 was a fantastic start to the New Year. The home has a lovely, calm and welcoming feel, and this is matched by the committed and hard-working staff team.

The best part about being the manager here is that I have the privilege of leading a home that already enjoys a long-established reputation for delivering high-quality, person-centred care. It really is just a case of ensuring we are continually striving for excellence, whilst never losing sight of why we are here, doing what we do.

The people who call Springfield their home will always be at the heart of everything we do, and that will never change. If you come in, please find me to say hello. We can have a cake and a chat! Two of my favourite things.

Job Title: Deputy Manager Joined: 2024

I'm Tom, and I am the deputy manager at Springfield Nursing Home where I have recently joined at the end of 2024.

My healthcare career began when I was 18 as a care assistant in a nursing home and a specialist dementia home, and I progressed to a nurse some years later. My experience in emergency nursing and community nursing has been invaluable to my role in management, and I continuously strive to develop my own skills further.

I am proud to be part of such an exceptional team that always has the resident's interests at heart. The values set out by Hartford Care are reflected wonderfully in the day-to-day lives of the residents here at Springfield and I feel privileged to play a role in that journey every day.
