My mother spent the last couple of years of her life at Chestfield House. The most outstanding thing about her care was the staff. They were kind and caring, always trying to please. My family were made to feel welcome visiting and personal requests were honoured. Management addressed concerns. Her
recent passing was treated with the utmost of compassion.

The care and kindness shown to Mum and to our rather large family - especially Dad - meant so much. Everyone on the team, was brilliant and a real credit to the manager. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and they helped make Mum's last few days peaceful and calm.
I felt completely at ease knowing
she was in the right place.
A sincere, heartfelt, thank you to you all.

The care given by Manju and her staff towards my mother was exceptional!! Mum stayed at Chestfield House for her last two weeks, the comfort we felt in her being there was invaluable. Every single member of staff was respectful, helpful and kind. The care didn't stop at mum either, the kindness shown
to Dad and all us family was outstanding and I know we will be forever grateful. I can't overstate the lengths they went to to make sure we were ok. Thank you so much.
6 stars for management and staff!!!

Having placed our dear mum in the care of Chestfield House care home, we as a family did not know where to turn or what to expect. We received amazing warmth and empathy as mum spent her final days receiving the best quality care we could have dreamed of. Not only had the staff got time for mum and
her needs but also for us as a family. We felt we too were at home with mum in her last days. Excellent staff awareness of our circumstances and hands on management. The home made everything so much easier to process, as mum deteriorated they showed great understanding and managed to support us as well as our dear mum. I am so thankful.

First impressions are the home is a bit old fashioned and dated but very clean. They could do with a cash injection bcause it is a wonderful place. Manju the manager welcomed us, the hospital totally messed up the discharge but the home calmly welcomed Jim and settled him with warmth and care. Every
member of staff we met in 4 days seemed to genuinely care, they treated Jim with dignity and warmth but also cheerful and with humour which was needed. I stayed overnight when it became clear we didn't have long. The staff all night checked I was ok as well as Jim, they listened to me, brought me tea and were amazing. They all deserve a pay rise! Thank you

All the family thought that our mother was treated with dignity and respect during her time at the care home. She was attended to with great care, much more so than she had been previously whilst in hospital. Thank you. The staff were very welcoming to all the visitors and answered any questions we
had about her care.

Thank you to all the staff at Chestfield House for the care they give my mum during the last few weeks of her life. Mum came to you Christmas Eve, from hospital. Her last Christmas was special. The family were welcome and we were able to sit in the dining room with her. The staff treated mum with care,
compassion and respect, as they did to all the residents. As I live so far away when mum wasn't strong enough to answer my face time calls they arranged a member of staff to be there to help. They took their time to talk on the phone when I called. The room was lovely and food looked delicious. Everywhere was clean. Thank you again

Mum went into Chestfield House for 2 weeks respite, As we were trying to care for her at home. This relief was noticeable very quickly. Mum loved the room & the bed. The staff & nurses were friendly & very kind to Mum. I was able to be a daughter & not a carer. The same for my Dad. Her last few days
were tough & heartbreaking but made all the more less stressful by the love & attention she received from everyone. They are a wonderful team and should all get a payrise! Thank you so much.

My husband was treated with dignity, respect and care by all the staff during his stay, as were our family.
I was treated particularly well, being fed and watered while visiting my dying husband. The food was nice with plenty of variety.
The home is spotlessly clean and I could not fault it.
There
are plenty of activities too for those who wanted it.

Choosing a nursing home for your loved one is an incredibly daunting situation to be in. My family viewed a number of homes when deciding where best to place our Grandmother who needed palliative care. When we viewed Chestfield House we all agreed almost immediately that it was the best place to care
for Grandma. It is the staff that make this place stand out. The manager, nurses and all of the staff were so warm, kind, professional and knowledgable. Importantly, they were always available to speak to in person or on the phone. They really listened to us and responded to Grandma's complex needs, treating her with such care. When she reached the end of her life, staff were so compassionate to us as a family and to Grandma.
The nursing home itself feels like a home. There are lots activities to participate in, both as residents and family/friends. Food was always of good quality.
These are staff who genuinely care and I actually miss seeing them every day.

The care provided by Chestfield House nursing home, both to my mum in her final few months and to us as a family, has been excellent. The staff are very caring and committed. This positive staff culture undoubtedly comes from the top, Manju the Manager. We saw this in practice with how she is creates
a respectful and even fun atmosphere for staff (e.g. Curry Lunch event - staff brought in food, dressed, danced for residents etc) - but always with a steely eye on patient/resident care. You can tell that she, and the whole staff, take pride in their jobs. I also discovered that several staff have been there for many years which, in his sector, is unusual and a very good sign.

The building isn't the most modern or purpose built, although rooms are light and relatively large. But the staff care is what really matters. We'd visited others locally when choosing a home, and this one stood out with its friendly and positive atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.809)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.809) out of 10 for Chestfield House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 39 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 39 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.809 for Chestfield House is calculated as follows: ( (375 Excellents x 5) + (58 Goods x 4) + (12 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 446 Ratings = 4.809
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Chestfield House is based on 39 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 31 registered maximum number of service users is 6.2, which has been reached with 39 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
