A wonderful care home with extremely nice people. I feel that the food is very good from what I've seen but my father-in-law constantly complains so I've rated it as 'Satisfactory'.

Some things are annoying, but overall it is comparable to other care homes. A lack of activities means that there is room for improvement, but I could say the same for other care homes. I have received first-class medical attention and nursing care.

Overall, I was really happy with my aunt staying in the home. Although my aunt could no longer join in the activities, the activity team often popped in and chatted with her.
Sister was excellent in keeping me up to date with Aunt's progress - good or bad.
Would recommend this to anyone looking
for a good care home.

I always receive a warm welcome from all staff at the home, whether it's from the maintenance, nursing, activities, management or catering team. As I've been visiting my mother here for a long time, I have witnessed a lot of change through trying times, but remain hugely grateful for the care shown
to my mother throughout. I'm hopeful for further improvements in premises and facilities under the new management.

The staff are very caring and my mother says she is happy. Entertainment would appear to have got better in recent months. There have been ongoing management changes and it would be nice to see this settle down. The room my mother is in is quite shabby and, I think, poorly set up for a person who can't
get to things herself e.g. no ability to be wheeled (small wheelchair) to parts of the room for her to see what she has in a specific drawer.
Reply from General Manager, General Manager at Maidstone Care CentreThank you so much for reviewing our home. We take all feedback very seriously. We are pleased that your mother is happy and that you feel our entertainment and engagement has improved. We are going to be doing much more in this area and will keep you informed of new events and initiatives.

Thank you for letting us know about your mother's room. We will review the layout of the room with your mother and yourself and we will also work with you on further personalising the space. We are a new management team and we have some great plans for the future of Maidstone Care Centre which we will share with you through our everyday contact and relatives' meetings and communications. We look forward to seeing you during your visits and perhaps sharing some time over some refreshments. Thank you again.

On the 7th of April 2022, we met with social services at the home to discuss my father returning home. After an hour of talking, which included a staff member we decided to go and see what my father's thoughts were. My brother, social services and I walked around to his room and was shocked to see he
was dying. He passed away the next morning at 8am. I have since requested from the Manager a report as to what went wrong, (there is a lot more to this story but won't go into), but have had no contact back from anyone. Social Services also let them know I was requiring a report. What I want is some contact from the new Manager as to why no one had had the decency to reply to my emails or let me know that a full investigation is at least taking place. Please can you give me your procedures to take this further.

My mum was in Maidstone Care Centre from January 2020 until November 2021. The care and attention she received was excellent, even on her passing the compassion and care was second to none. We will be forever indebted to the centre. As we are living in Ireland it was a great comfort that she was being
so well looked after.

The room was a good size which provided ease of support to Mum to be looked after. The staff were so compassionate and caring and looked after Mum marvellously during her short stay. The staff were also very supportive to our family as we had to travel some distance and gave us time to be with Mum to
the end. We cannot thank them enough.

Our son, who has learning disabilities, was in hospital with severe respiratory difficulties and was transferred to the home in December 2019. We expected his condition to deteriorate and had faced the prospect of losing him, however, the home has looked after and nurtured him so well that he now walks,
he has put on weight and is not dependent on oxygen. We have the highest praise for all the staff.

It's hard to express how grateful I am for the care and attention the staff gave to my husband during the last weeks of his life. His dementia, exacerbated by cancer, had transformed him from a lovely, kind and caring man to one full of torment with very challenging behaviour. The staff saw beyond this
and treated him with all the respect and loving care I could have hoped for. They did their very best in these difficult times to give us as much access as possible towards his end of life care. My heartfelt thanks to them all.

Staffing levels at weekends and nights appear to be too far reduced, resulting in those staff that are on duty being rushed off their feet, becoming stressed and irritable. Thus they are unable to provide the level of compassionate care that they desire in their hearts to provide.
Food generally good.
Activities staff very good.
Reply from Jacqueline Gregg, General Manager at Maidstone Care CentreI am sorry to hear these comments as we have not reduced any staff. We have a dependency tool that informs the management team of how many staff hours are required for all the residents and never go below the recommendations; the deployment of staff is also included as to the times the residents' needs are required. We are lucky to be fully staffed with our own staff. It has been a difficult year this year and everyone in the industry has felt the stress. Night staff do have less duties because most residents are asleep at night and this is reflected in the staffing hours deployed. I will however be increasing night staff visits to ensure they are managing the workload effectively throughout the night. The lead nurses who do both day and nights including weekends have not raised this as an issue so I will clarify with them also. I would like to assure you the day and night care shifts have the same amount of staff seven days a week.

Up until March this year, was very happy with the home but just as Covid hit, the majority of staff left. So it left us leaving our relative with 'strangers'. We are grateful to have 30-minute visits every three weeks but do not have enough communication in between visits to know the day to day running
of the home. On our recent visit, we were disappointed to be told we can no longer take in flowers, etc. My mother takes great joy in the simplest of these things. The staff we see on these visits are very good with Mum and are trying their best.
Reply from Jacqueline Gregg, General Manager at Maidstone Care CentreDear Mandy, it is unfortunate that we have restrictions due to COVID-19 and that you have not been allowed into the home since lockdown in March, to see the home and meet any new staff. We have issued a newsletter to update residents and relatives of any changes and what we are doing within the home. Our head office writes to relatives on a regular basis. Under the guidelines, you have had visits away from the main building with your mum but the photos of mum we have taken have evidenced that she is happy and taking part in all activities. I did ask you if you wanted to meet this week to discuss any issues you may have but you declined. My offer goes to you again in the hope we can resolve any issues you may have.

I went to take a Covid safe visit with my mother-in-law. I was greeted in a friendly, approachable manner, my mother-in-law was treated in a lovely manner, she was chatty and happy. I found the whole experience very relaxing and calm. I was shown photos/videos of my mother-in-law doing activities, which
she seemed to enjoy.
Definitely a great place with lovely people working there.

Visits of 30 minutes every three weeks is not enough to give a good basis for a review. My previous opinions are no longer valid because of COVID 19 restrictions. I really appreciate the personal visits but even more so are the two Skype sessions (15 minutes) every week. My wife has been here for 5
or 6 years. She is very settled and content. She has no communication ability at all.
Reply from Jacqueline Gregg, General Manager at Maidstone Care CentreDear Michael, thank you for your review. Unfortunately, the COVID 19 restrictions are understandably upsetting for families, but they are beyond our control. We are very lucky that COVID has not affected any of our residents. We are looking forward to a happier and safer future for us all. Please come and speak to us should you have any concerns.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.403)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.403) out of 10 for Maidstone Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 42 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 38 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.403 for Maidstone Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (294 Excellents x 5) + (139 Goods x 4) + (38 Satisfactorys x 3) + (12 Poors x 2) + (11 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 494 Ratings = 4.403
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Maidstone Care Centre is based on 38 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 58 registered maximum number of service users is 11.6, which has been reached with 38 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I’m proud to be the General Manager at Maidstone Care Centre and passionate about creating a warm, supportive and welcoming environment for everyone who lives and works here.

My experience within the care sector includes working in the community as an Area Manager, managing Live-In Care services and previously being a Registered Manager within a care home setting. What I enjoy most about my role is supporting the team to deliver outstanding care and knowing that, together, we can make a genuine difference to residents and their families every day.

One of the things I love most about Maidstone Care Centre is the team spirit. There is a real sense of warmth and dedication from people who genuinely want to be here and are passionate about caring for others.
