Sutton Valence care home provides residential, dementia and nursing care in 60 beautifully appointed bedrooms.

The home is located in the village of Sutton Valence, Kent. Its rural setting means the residents can enjoy expansive gardens and views over the surrounding countryside. There is a direct bus route into nearby Maidstone.

The home completed a full refurbishment in late 2024, including all bedrooms, and public areas including café, dining room, lounge and conservatory.

Large windows throughout the home make it bright and airy, some bedrooms even have doors opening out onto the garden. As well as lounge and dining areas, the home has a large room dedicated to when residents have visitors for events such as birthday parties or meals.

The home has a team of activities coordinators so there is always something going on. Residents can choose from a range of group and one-to-one activities, such as arts and crafts and exercise classes. Singers and magicians often perform in the home and milestones in years are celebrated by the whole community.

The home boasts a private dining room which can be hired for family parties, or occasions for your loved one to ensure that ever stronger family commitment is maintained and cherished they also offer trips to the beach, local castles, RHS gardens and garden centre in the home’s minibus. Residents are also supported in any independent activities they choose to do, inside or outside the home. Overlooking the local cricket grounds, residents can sit in the large conservatory or patio rooms and watch the cricket in the bright summer days and evenings.

Food is homecooked and nutritionally balanced. The home’s chef creates menus based on people dietary requirements and a dietician visits regularly. Every resident has an individual eating plan to develop and encourage a balanced and weight retaining diet at all times.

Unfortunately, my daughter who is disabled and in a wheelchair, has several complicated medical problems and had to go into a home several years ago. Because of her age, it was proving very difficult to find a suitable place for her. Sutton Valence's manager made a visit to her in the London hospital
she was in and agreed they had a place for her. Within days she was able to leave hospital and was made to feel welcome and settled quickly in what has now been her home for several years. I can only praise all the management and staff for their care and support they have given her myself over what has sometimes not always been easy.

I thoroughly enjoy residents visits, so much going on in the home. Today was a Rock and Roll day with the place decorated out with pretty pink tablecloths in the dining room and old records used for tablemats. Pink and white balloons hanging from light and decorations in dining room.
Staff dressed
in Rock and Roll clothes and a lady entertainer dancing and singing with staff joining in and residents enjoying themselves. I often stay for lunch where the food is good and such good value. My resident is happy and treated with dignity.

The care home is spacious, well lit, lovely ground floor provides an ideal indoor circuit for those residents able to walk/use a Zimmer frame to exercise.

Always a warm welcome and warm temperature wise. Friendly atmosphere. Clean and cosy surroundings. My friends in the home seem happy and comfortable. Staff always friendly and helpful. Easy access to friends. Lift always feels a bit wonky so I use the stairs.

When my mother needed to go into a home, this was my immediate choice. The home feels like a family run business and as I live close, I thought this would be an obvious choice.


Before she came to the home, my mother needed to be in another home for 3 weeks and although it was closer to where I live,

with more facilities, the staff were not pleasant.


It just goes to show that it's the staff that make a huge difference in the choice of the home regardless of how up to date the facilities are or how much the home costs.


I would highly recommend this home.

From the time my mother arrived at the Sutton Valence Care Home, she has been treated with respect and dignity. The staff are caring and considerate of her needs. Although my mum chooses not to "join in" with the activities, there are plenty of classes to choose from. The only thing that lets the home
down is the poor décor of the rooms. My mum moved in in April 2013 and her room needed decorating then and it still has not been done.

Could not have found a better care home. The standards are excellent, the staff are very caring and professional, treating those in their care with dignity. The only criticism is the car park where much space is taken up by raised unkempt flower beds. It really can be quite hazardous when manoeuvring
dodging pedestrians and other vehicles.

My mother has been in the care home for 11 months. She is unable to do anything for herself and we have found her care to be very good. She is always clean and well cared for in her personal care and is treated with kindness and respect. Any medical problems are dealt with promptly by the nursing staff.
We have found all the staff to be caring, friendly and approachable. No complaints.

Our mother/mother-in-law moved into Sutton Valence Care Home in July after being diagnosed with terminal cancer. She could no longer care for herself or cope at home. Sadly she passed away on 23rd October. Words cannot express how grateful we are for the care she received while at the home. The staff
are understanding, patient, considerate and very caring. Our mother thought of them like her second family and very close friends. She felt very safe and secure and loved every minute she was there.

On initial viewing the home seemed bright and welcoming. Attractive brochure, encouraging. However, care needs proved lacking. Residents who were not bed bound were left for long periods either in their rooms or communal area. Communication between staff and residents was limited - weekends in particular.
I did not feel that my mother was safe or getting the attention she required and deteriorated over her two week stay. The quality of the food was particularly poor and mealtimes a depressing experience. Staff did not interact with residents, menus poorly explained and food served to rooms cold and unappetising. Some effort was made to rectify some of these issues on complaint.

Sutton Valence provides care for residents with high dependency nursing needs. Our residents chose to sit in the lounge, conservatory and also on occasion on their own. The Sutton Valence team offer a range of planned activities and also spend quality one-to-one time with residents who prefer to stay in their rooms. We have also introduced our Magic Moments recreation and activities programme. The programme aims to encourage well-being by concentrating in equal measure on the mind, through mental agility; the body, through fitness and mobility; and the soul, through entertainment and personal interests, continued learning and emotional engagement.


We have recently made some changes to our catering service to enhance our resident dining experience and have introduced a new “Spring and Summer Menu” offering a choice of appetizing and nutritionally balanced meals. The Sutton Valence team seeks regular feedback from residents about the choice of meals served and this helps us to plan our menus. Furthermore, a new Chef is commencing post on the 15th August here at Sutton Valence.

My wife suffers from dementia. She is 83 and is now unable to get out. Occasionally with her permission a care assistant gets her into an armchair. She has very limited conversation and her memory is very bad to the extent that she barley remembers which of our children visited the day before. My visits
only last for 1/2 an hour or so due to lack of her interest. I find the care assistants really live up to their name and lavish her care more than I would be capable of. I was pleasantly surprised by the care homes position overlooking a cricket ground and the countryside. I have every confidence that my wife is in the best accommodation with excellent care.

My mother has lived here for over 2 years and is 96 years old. She has double incontinence and is not able to stand or walk. Then staff are all very good and if asked for help will always do whatever they can. Mums room could do with redecorating and the window frame sticks however she is comfortable
on the whole.

I am a very dedicated registered nurse and leader with over 20 years of nursing and care home experience, including at the management level. As a nurse, I always go the extra mile to ensure our residents get the best quality of care and living environment at Sutton Valence Care Home. I am extremely passionate about my role and like to form relationships with the residents and I am dedicated to giving good holistic care to each resident. Since being at Sutton Valence through the support of the management team and encouragement of training through Barchester, I have been able to develop my skills and have since become a unit manager. The team at Sutton Valence has a family feel and we all work incredibly well together.


My career as a carer started when I became a community carer and then I started working as a clinical support worker at Medway Hospital. The hospital then sponsored me for my training in Nursing where I qualified in 2014.


During my nursing at the hospital, I worked in the surgical department and ICU.

Hello, I am Robert Iain Malcolm, one of the senior carers at Sutton Valence Care Home. I have been working here for 7 years with my wife who is also working at the home as a care assistant.


Currently, I am the Dementia Champion in the home, supporting, and mentoring staff to make the lives of our residents living with dementia a purposeful and proactive life whilst in our care.


I am also supported by the home manager to develop and progress my career and currently, I am undertaking a care practitioner course to develop my skills further.

My name is Lorraine and I am a Senior Carer at Sutton Valence.


I first started working as a carer at Sutton Valence in 1993 at just 20 years old. I left a couple of times to have my children until 2003. Since then I have become a Senior Carer and find caring for the elderly thoroughly rewarding.


Working at Sutton Valence is like having another family. My colleagues are lovely and friendly, we all look after one another and work great as a team.


When I’m not at Sutton Valence I enjoy looking after my grandchildren and spending time with the family.

My name is Gemma I am an Activities coordinator at Sutton Valence care home. I have been working here for nine years and love it. I grew up in Sutton Valence Village and attended the local Primary school.


I have always been passionate about the care of others and enjoy enriching the lives of our Residents. I have a Diploma in Health and social care and have worked in private health care for over 14 years. I have always loved performing arts and studied them at school. I am a very proud Mother to Amaya and Jacob.

Hi, my name is Amy and I am one of the Activities Coordinators at Sutton Valence and have been working here since February 2023. Getting to know the residents and making them happy is an honour along with learning new skills.


Before starting at Sutton Valence I worked in retail, with animals and in a nursery with young children.


When I am not at work, I enjoy spending my time with my 3 children, friends and family.

My name is Hermmas Alex. I joined as an Administrative Assistant at Sutton Valence Care Home in January 2023.


I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Hotel Management and have been working within the hotel industry for the last 12 years, most recently as a Restaurant Manager. I have put this customer service experience to good use as the first face that people see when they come to the care home. I am really enjoying my new role. I am being supported to develop and enhance my career by the home manager.

My name is Chris Wheeler, I have been working as a Receptionist at Sutton Valence since March 2020.


I am from Medway Towns and have previously worked in a busy call centre for 8 years. Before this, I worked for the Royal Bank of Scotland for 2 years after I finished university where I studied Policing Studies. My parents were both teachers (now retired) and I have an older brother who is a Doctor.


I decided to apply for the position as I wanted to change my role and try my hand at something different. I have greatly enjoyed and am still enjoying my role for the past 4 years and it has helped me greatly in my personal life, mainly due to the supportive team members we have here and the welcoming environment at home.

As a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse, I am committed to delivering high-quality care to residents at Sutton Valence, Barchester Healthcare. With a strong clinical background in critical care, I hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSc) from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka, India, and bring extensive experience in high-acuity settings.


My career began in the Neurosurgical ICU in New Delhi, India, where I developed foundational expertise in managing complex neurological cases. I further honed my skills in critical care units and the Cardiac Catheterisation Lab, assisting physicians in advanced invasive procedures while ensuring patient safety and comfort.


Driven by my ambition to advance my career in the UK, I was directly recruited by Sutton Valence, Barchester Healthcare, where I have been contributing for the past two years. Currently, I am enhancing my professional development through Barchester’s Preceptorship Program, supported by my Home Manager, Deputy Manager (Preceptor). Through ongoing training, I continue to refine my clinical skills and knowledge to provide evidence-based, person-centred care.


What I love most about my role is the meaningful connections I build with residents and colleagues at Sutton Valence. It is a privilege to be part of Barchester Healthcare, an organisation that values excellence in care and continuous learning.
