Positioned at Wombwell Gardens in the town of Northfleet Wombwell Hall is a 120-bed care home offering specialist residential nursing care and palliative care for those living with dementia, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, confusion, and other similar conditions.

The purpose-built care home is in a quieter part of Northfleet’s urban community. Surrounded by green space and tree canopies, the home is set in a pleasant and peaceful position yet benefits from easy access to town-based amenities.

Having recently benefitted from a thoughtfully designed refurbishment, the communal areas such as the dining rooms, lounges, day rooms, conservatory, hair salon and treatment rooms have been designed to enhance the daily lives of everyone who calls Wombwell Hall their home.

Kindness is at the heart of everything the care team does at Wombwell Hall; person-centred care and wellbeing is top priority. Personalised care plans consider not only medical, personal, and dietary needs, but also the individual's likes and dislikes, religious preferences, and suggestions from family members.

As part of a person-centred care delivery plan, individuals are encouraged and supported to participate in their pastimes and hobbies or embark on learning something new in a fun and inclusive environment.

Wombwell Hall has many places in which to relax, dine, exercise, socialise and be creative. The landscaped garden and patio are the perfect spot to spend time with friends and family, or with one of the many neighbourhood groups or volunteers who visit.

My mother has only just been a resident for a couple of weeks, she seems happy enough. A resident who was in a room next to her and played music in the night has been moved after Mum complained. The food is good and they will often make her something else if she doesn’t fancy the dinner. The staff seem
proactive and are always popping in on her to see how she is.
Reply from Lisa Cox, Administrator and Customer Relations Support at Wombwell Hall Care HomeWe're really grateful and appreciate you taking the time to share your review with us. We're happy to hear that your dear mum was listened to. We will ensure your valuable feedback gets shared with our lovely team. Best wishes from all at Belmont Healthcare team.

My mother was having trouble finding a chair that she could sit comfortably in. The administrator at head office arranged for one to be provided to Mum, as I couldn’t afford to purchase Mum her own one. She was so helpful. I can’t explain how grateful I am for her help and for the director and his help
too. Made my mum’s life so much better. Thank you again.
Reply from Andrea Vinten, Head of Communications at Wombwell Hall Care HomeThank you so much for taking the time to send in such a lovely review, we will of course ensure that your kind words are shared with everyone. We believe that it's key that our Head Office team work very closely alongside our Care Teams across all of our locations - and we are so glad that on this occasion we were able to help and assist in making your Mother much more comfortable at Wombwell Hall, this is incredibly important to us.

Extremely nice place. Staff very helpful.
My mother is very happy while she recovers from a fracture to her knee.
My late father also received a great deal of loving care from everyone and it's lovely to see that this loving care is still the case today.
Reply from Andrea Vinten, Head of Communications at Wombwell Hall Care HomeHello Jennifer, thank you so much for taking the time to leave us your wonderful review. Your kind words go a long way - we will ensure that these are passed on to our Wombwell Hall care team, who will appreciate them very much. Wishing your Mother a speedy recovery from her knee fracture - with warmest regards.

Whilst I appreciate you have not long taken over this care home, I'm very disappointed in the lack of care standards and other care values at Wombwell Hall Care/Nursing Home. This is partly due to, I believe the care Home providers prior to Belmont taking over, although at present I personally feel
improvements are needed and to be sustainable even on “Belmonts Watch”.
Some of the staff are lovely, caring and efficient others are not.
Therefore I cannot give a great review as you may have hoped at this present time.
Reply from Clare Swan, Operations Director at Wombwell Hall Care HomeThank you for your review we are of course extremely disappointed that the care standards were not up to expectations. We have a strong set of values and standards as an organization these of course take time to become embedded in the home. We have been working tirelessly since taking the home over 4 months ago and have received very positive feedback from many family members. I see that the review relates to September 2022 when the home was owned by the previous owners, I believe if you visited us again you would see a great improvement. Thank you again for your review we will of course share this with the team and use it to keep improving our service.

Staff are very caring and, although very busy, do their utmost to make our mum happy and comfortable, chatting and cheering her up. The staff are also most helpful to the family, answering questions about our mum and maintaining a friendly relationship with us. Thank you Wombwell Hall staff! The finance
officer has been very helpful, especially when we had to sort out finances at the start of Mother's stay.
Reply from Clare Swan, Operations Director at Wombwell Hall Care HomeThank you for your positive review concerning the care of your mum. Carers and nurses are very kind and caring, even though they are always busy. Mother could be quite demanding and awkward at times, but they reassure her and try to calm her when upset.

I was truly shocked to see my sister. Her room was very basic to say the least. No sink toilet or shower. Nothing to make the room feel homely. She has no way of moving herself in or around her bed, which didnt look very comfy. She just stays in bed all day and night with nothing to do. I'm in shock.
If I could I'd move her to a care home near me in Essex. Not impressed.

There is a lack of care, particularly with giving medication - a cream is supposed to be applied three times a day but is rarely given more than twice. Staples keep running out (tea bags, sugar and sweeteners). When asking for anything the answer is mostly 'not at this minute' or 'you will have to wait'.
Staff do not come into the room so that my wife can see them or hear them a lot of the time.

Mum has been looked after well for the last three years. Staff are friendly and do their best to accommodate any requests we may have. The activities team work very hard. Communal areas have been refurbished but some bedrooms still need to be updated. Overall, I am happy with the care Mum is receiving.

My aunty came in for a short stay from the hospital, and the difference the staff have made to her is fantastic.
My aunty had poor mobility and had lost a lot of weight, and now after two months, she has put on weight and is able to walk a little, and this is all down to the wonderful staff.
She now
gets her hair done once a week, and is joining in activities and is "living" again, and I could not ask for more.

I am writing this review as I want to say how lovely it is to be able to visit again. The carers help out with making sure we have our test before coming in to make sure that everyone is safe, and even though I am sure this makes their job even harder, they always seem pleased to see us and happy to
help!

Unfortunately, my mother was admitted to Wombwell Hall Care Home in January 2020 and the home has, of course, been in almost permanent lockdown since then. Notwithstanding she is 93 this year, contracted covid and is still with us which can only be due to the care and diligence of the excellent staff.
Due to the minimum amount of inside visits that I have been able to make over the past 15 months, I feel unable to comment on some areas.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.593)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.593) out of 10 for Wombwell Hall Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 33 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 30 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.593 for Wombwell Hall Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (274 Excellents x 5) + (57 Goods x 4) + (29 Satisfactorys x 3) + (8 Poors x 2) + (3 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 371 Ratings = 4.593
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Wombwell Hall Care Home is based on 30 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 120 registered maximum number of service users is 24, which has been reached with 30 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Richard Lawson

Job Title: General Manager Joined: 2025

Richard has enjoyed a varied career. After beginning his post college working life in social care, he then focussed on working with teenagers and young people. This in turn led him, (by accident he will tell you) to take to the high seas, and spent a number of years on cruise ships around the globe. Upon returning to dry land, Richard worked in a number of related industries both in the UK and for a short period abroad - hospitality, entertainment and show management, including media and local radio - he even became an award winner whilst managing a seaside pier and theatre!

However, this led to Rich being headhunted back into health and social care management, which is where he has stayed for the past 15 years. He has worked as a Home Manager, General Manager, Operations Director, Regional Manager and Director - and now is delighted to join Belmont Healthcare as the General Manager at Wombwell Hall. A little care village with a big heart and ambitious plans for the future...

Richard's whole career has centred around the same basic core principles and values, from day one. A love, respect and duty of care for people, a passionate commitment to the most outstanding customer service which includes caring - really, really caring. And that is as true today as it ever was - and what you will find at Wombwell Hall.
