The purpose-built care home is in a quieter part of Northfleet’s urban community. Surrounded by green space and tree canopies, the home is set in a pleasant and peaceful position yet benefits from easy access to town-based amenities.

I found my stay here a very positive one. Everyone makes you feel welcome and explains any care or treatment plans with you. Nursing staff and carers are excellent and make you feel as you are part of a big family. The only problem is that some residents keep shouting and banging on tables at night
and during the day - very upsetting for visitors and grandchildren.

Whilst the staff are willing and have the skills for the tasks - they lack management guidance. The staff number of two per night for 30 beds per unit is not sufficient - toilet arrangements are compromising.
The activities could and should be much better organised with more budget staff.

Thank you for your comments. Sorry that you feel we have 2 staff on at night, we actually have three night staff members per unit which includes a trained nurse who forms part of the team. If more than one resident needs to use the bathroom at the same time, we need two members of the team to assist. Regarding activities at the home, we have a new team member that has just joined the Wellbeing Activities team, bringing the total to four which should enable us to provide more activities across the home. However, we always welcome ideas on new and meaningful activities for our residents and try to focus on things that our residents want to do or are interested in.

In the recent past, there has been a low priority to take people to the toilet. Long waiting times for buzzers to be answered, then turned off and having to wait for a carer to return. Some of the food is inedible, some very good. There is a shortage of day staff and certainly at night. Residents are
kept on medication long after needed, painkillers etc. It's up to relatives to see the doctor and get them stopped, overall cleanliness is good, and some staff very good.

Thank you for your comments. Please feel free to come into the Home to discuss your points with us. We have an ongoing recruitment campaign to attract the kindest people to join our team and an excellent training program to provide our team with the tools to provide the best care. However, at busy times it can take a little longer for staff to answer call bells, but we do monitor response times on a regular basis to ensure we are able to meet our resident’s needs safely. The chef liaises with the unit to discuss diet preferences for our residents and we offer a diverse set of options from our nutritionally balanced menu and offer alternative menu options to ensure we are meeting resident’s needs and accommodating specific tastes and diets. I am happy to pass specific feedback on meals to our chef.

Since my friend moved to Wombwell Hall in March under the 'fast-track' he has thrived. He settled in well, with the staff being very welcoming and caring.


He gets on well with them and vice-versa. It's true to say he has exceeded expectations, in part down to him, but also the home.

My dad was transferred from hospital to Wombwell Hall for palliative care. The care was outstanding, as was the communication between me and the home, and my dad's wishes were all outstanding. They not only looked after my dad but made sure his family were ok. After dad passed away, the nursing staff
gave us time with dad and were very sympathetic and understanding.

This is a good home - but self-funding at £6000 a month, I think is excessive.


Having now come to the end of my self-funding, I am now awaiting the assessment of my future.

Richard Lawson

Job Title: General Manager Joined: 2025

Richard has enjoyed a varied career. After beginning his post college working life in social care, he then focussed on working with teenagers and young people. This in turn led him, (by accident he will tell you) to take to the high seas, and spent a number of years on cruise ships around the globe. Upon returning to dry land, Richard worked in a number of related industries both in the UK and for a short period abroad - hospitality, entertainment and show management, including media and local radio - he even became an award winner whilst managing a seaside pier and theatre!


However, this led to Rich being headhunted back into health and social care management, which is where he has stayed for the past 15 years. He has worked as a Home Manager, General Manager, Operations Director, Regional Manager and Director - and now is delighted to join Belmont Healthcare as the General Manager at Wombwell Hall. A little care village with a big heart and ambitious plans for the future...


Richard's whole career has centred around the same basic core principles and values, from day one. A love, respect and duty of care for people, a passionate commitment to the most outstanding customer service which includes caring - really, really caring.
