I'd like to say I'm very impressed with my husband's care and attention to detail. The staff go above and beyond anything he needs and to us as family. Especially for his birthday on Sunday, the room was prepared and decorated perfectly. The cake and drinks etc. was very nice. Our visitors were also
treated very well nothing too much trouble. I will definitely be bringing him here again. Thank you very much.
Reply from Sandra Verrell, General Manager at Barchester Friston House Care HomeDear Nicky, it was such a pleasure to care for your husband and we look forward to see you all soon when he returns.I am so pleased that you were pleased with his care that he received but also the way you and your family were looked after. Excellent from the start: careful, proactive and committed staff in every role. A home seemingly filled with energy and cheerfulness. My relative was too ill to take advantage of the organised events: even so, everyone was so helpful and willing that he should feel settled and comfortable. Outstanding
nursing care, for which we are very grateful.

Overall, we are happy with the experience of our mum being at Barchester Friston House Care Home.
We are a little disappointed at the speed that improvements to the laundry are taking.
We would like to be able to view Mum's care record online.
We have felt very well supported in seeking funding for
Mum's additional care needs.

Mum was apprehensive and so were we (her family) about bringing Mum into a care setting but we could no longer cope with the 24-hour care at home and in Mum's best interest, we found Barchester Friston House Care Home. Mum has been here two days now and our concerns and feelings of doubt were completely
diminished with the care and definite love for care shown by all members of staff and amazing communication and organisation shown. Beautiful, clean and comfortable surroundings.
Value for money - definitely see what you're paying for.

I was recommended to come here by friend and my family and I are most satisfied with my stay. I find the management team most efficient and courteous and all of medical and ancillary staff are caring, hardworking and good-humoured.
It seems likely, due to heart failure, that I may return again. Without
a doubt, I would wish to return to this excellent centre - if they could include me!

Review is based over a four-month and ongoing residency. Some initial concerns have proven to be exactly that, there just needed to be a settling-in period and getting to know the home and the routines. Overall, the level of care has been very good. Any medical needs that have arisen have been quickly
raised with GPs by the staff and well dealt with. Emotional and social support for the residents is also very good with staff always positive and caring. Friston does seem to move staff around its three distinct areas which, in the long term, should be positive but in my opinion, means that consistency and continuity have, on occasion, been lacking. All staff and management have been excellent on a reactive basis when we have raised any query or matter but there have been instances when I expected a greater proactive approach. Having said this, the management and supervisory staff are always available and make time to listen and discuss any issues. Overall, our family is very happy.

What a lovely care home! Dad has been here for six weeks and in that time he has settled in very well. He seems happy and relaxed. All of the staff are extremely caring, professional and treat Dad with respect and dignity. No matter how busy they are they are always happy to help, nothing is too much
trouble and they are always smiling. Dad is being cared for very well, he is always clean and dressed. The food is great and Dad enjoys it, along with all the tea and biscuits! Choosing a care home for Dad was a very stressful experience, we've certainly made the right choice!

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.850)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.850) out of 10 for Barchester Friston House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 50 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 50 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.850 for Barchester Friston House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (516 Excellents x 5) + (65 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 592 Ratings = 4.85
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Friston House Care Home is based on 50 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 81 registered maximum number of service users is 16.2, which has been reached with 50 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
