I was recommended to come here by friend and my family and I are most satisfied with my stay. I find the management team most efficient and courteous and all of medical and ancillary staff are caring, hardworking and good-humoured.

It seems likely, due to heart failure, that I may return again. Without a doubt, I would wish to return to this excellent centre - if they could include me!

Reply from David Johnson, Senior Activity Co-ordinator at Barchester Friston House Care Home

Just a quick message to say how helpful your staff are with the care of my mother-in-law, in particular two carers. Such fantastic carers. They all need a decent pay rise and a medal for having the care and patience of a saint.

Review from Darren M (Son of Resident) published on 6 September 2024 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

Review is based over a four-month and ongoing residency. Some initial concerns have proven to be exactly that, there just needed to be a settling-in period and getting to know the home and the routines. Overall, the level of care has been very good. Any medical needs that have arisen have been quickly raised with GPs by the staff and well dealt with. Emotional and social support for the residents is also very good with staff always positive and caring. Friston does seem to move staff around its three distinct areas which, in the long term, should be positive but in my opinion, means that consistency and continuity have, on occasion, been lacking. All staff and management have been excellent on a reactive basis when we have raised any query or matter but there have been instances when I expected a greater proactive approach. Having said this, the management and supervisory staff are always available and make time to listen and discuss any issues. Overall, our family is very happy.

My cousin was transferred to your care from our local hospice, having become very unwell and having lost her mobility.
I followed the transferring ambulance and we were warmly greeted by the wonderful staff here.

Since then, the care, kindness and "attention to detail" for her has been exemplary - by all staff. Her room is pleasant, nicely furnished and bright. Her meals are tasty and varied. (The BBQ last week was wonderful!) All in all, wonderful care. Thank you all.

We are very happy with how my mum is looked after at Friston. She is contented, and her well-being is a priority. Staff are friendly and Mum says she "cannot fault it in any way". Food is excellent, and there are plenty of activities on offer to keep her occupied. Relatives are welcomed, and it is always good to see the residents enjoying themselves. We are very pleased that we chose Friston House for our mum's care.

My dad came to Friston House from hospital for palliative care he was not eating. Slept mostly and had delirium. It took him about a week to settle in. They reviewed medication etc. We cannot believe how much he has improved. He is now eating, awake a lot more and has no delirium they have been amazing! My dad used to attend an organ club. Unfortunately he will not be able to go but Friston House went to the club and recorded it so he could watch it in the home. I would highly recommend.

Our first experience of residential/nursing care. My mum spent a year at Friston before transferring to a care home nearer to family.
Our overall experience was as marked below. The standout experience was the commitment of the care staff. They are well-led and show care and compassion.
The only real criticism is the introduction of the new electronic reporting system.

This appears to have been implemented without sufficient training or support. The prescriptive nature of the system means that staff spend less time with residents and feel under extra pressure to complete reports.
