The room was well laid out and facilities were good. Disturbance at night from other residents. No other people to play games with or have reasonable social interaction.
Reply from Feedback Team at Barchester Glebefields Care HomeHi Pat. Thank you for taking the time to leave your review for Glebefields, your kind comments regarding our rooms and facilities have been shared with our care home team. We are sorry to read that sleep was disturbed during your loved ones time with us, our staff do all they can to keep the rooms as quiet as possible to allow everyone to get a restful night’s sleep and offer their support to any residents who need it. Your loved one did enjoy participating in many group activities within the home as well as being quite sociable in our reception area which is a great location for a refreshment and conversation with other residents. If there’s more the team can do for him next time, please let them know, 01295 738133 or contact our feedback team on feedback@barchester.com, we’re on hand to support. Visiting my husband, who's having respite care here, I was made welcome for lunch in the beautiful dining room. The tables are very attractive, with white damask clothes and serviettes, cutlery and glassware of a high standard.
The food is tasty and well-presented, and the portions are an ideal size
for the smaller appetites of the elderly. The service was friendly, speedy and efficient.

Overall experience is very good, though some of the staff don't seem to communicate with each other. For example, instructions for meals, especially breakfast, are not carried out; no honey brought with porridge, no spoon brought with egg. Some of planned activities don't happen, especially in the lounge,
as residents stay in their rooms. The food is excellent and the room is comfortable with a superb view. External door to my room is permanently locked, I'm told that is because I'm not the only resident. Occasionally fear that another resident might wander through my room and escape, e.g. while I'm asleep.

Summer fete held in the picturesque grounds of the home with BBQ and ice cream van. Despite the windy blustery weather it was very well organised and attended by staff, visitors and stall holders. The staff in particular were brilliant and helpful at all times with residents and visitors alike. A special
thank you to the activities coordinator) for organising the event. Such a lovely day. Thank you to all.

Overall a great respite stay that my mother really enjoyed. Only negative we were told on collection that Mum did not use incontinence pants during her stay which left us confused. In her suitcase, she had an incontinence pant brand we did not use and was also incontinent as before on returning home.

Barchester has been equal to my expectations, Glebefields location is ideal for my family's requirements. We have wasted little time in inviting along neighbours, family and friends.

As my father's previous carer, I am very impressed with how the staff care for him as he is still very lucid at 96 years old and has a lot of dignity. But slowly especially these last few months, now he is physically deteriorating. He could not be in a better place!

The home is extremely well-appointed and the cleanliness is a high standard. The staff are lovely, very patient and friendly. Any complaints are dealt with swiftly and appropriately. I like the way the dining tables are always set properly and the food is excellent-suitable for a wide range of (smaller)
appetites. The staff are very attentive and make an effort to get to know the residents so that they can quickly identify when something is wrong and seek medical attention.

I have visited my mother, who is staying here, twice now and both times I was very impressed with the care home and the kind and professional way that you are dealing with my mother.
However, my mum said that she was left for 20 minutes yesterday sitting on the commode. This made her cry! I know you
are busy, but 20 minutes is too long. Everything else is good!
Reply from Nisha Shaji, general manager at Barchester Glebefields Care HomeThank you for the feedback, Tim, we apologise for the experience that Mum had to have, we have taken onboard the concern and have implemented measures in place accordingly so Mum could have a better stay with us. Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.755)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.755) out of 10 for Barchester Glebefields Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 32 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 32 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.755 for Barchester Glebefields Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (292 Excellents x 5) + (62 Goods x 4) + (14 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 368 Ratings = 4.755
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Glebefields Care Home is based on 32 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 42 registered maximum number of service users is 8.4, which has been reached with 32 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Resident Ambassador Joined: 2025

Hello, my name is Fiona, and I share the role of resident ambassador with my friend and fellow resident, Joan. Having two resident ambassadors means all those living at Glebefields have a choice of who they would like to talk to.

On leaving school in East London at the age of 16, I started work in a local nursery school. Within 3 years, I’d qualified as a Nursery Nurse and spent the following 50 years within this wonderful profession.

Her love for children and their continued education shaped her life. Fiona is now an avid supporter of all the homes’ Intergenerational Activities and keeps herself young and updated on the latest trends with visits from her ten grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
