Green Gates offers residential, nursing, palliative, post-operative and respite care as well as support for adults with long term conditions. The home also offers a space for people to rest, relax and recover for short stays too!

Situated in the pleasant area of Summertown the home has a lovely relaxed homely atmosphere and is surrounded by beautiful gardens with outdoor seating. There are also multiple communal areas and private dining facilities helping residents to relax and socialise.

The home retains many of its original features with rooms of varying sizes and aspects to suit an individual’s needs. All rooms are en-suite with bathroom facilities, Wi-Fi, and Smart TV included.

Green Gates is located in a prime area of North Oxford, conveniently located between Oxford city centre and Oxford Ring Road and is within a short walk to Summertown shopping centre. There is a frequent bus service to Oxford city centre just 100 yards away.

Mealtimes and special occasions are important to the home’s life, with food prepared by their chef manager and a balanced diet enjoyed by all. Afternoon tea and homemade cake are popular additions to the menu!

Greengates has been transformative in the way it has cared for my mother who is 89, non-verbal and immobile and very much at the end of her life.
I cannot thank the manager enough for her persistence with multiple agencies in unblocking the roadblocks to ensure that my mother was able to move to Greengates.
Now that my mother is at Greengates I am confident that she is being looked after in the way we want for her. That has brought peace where once there was intense, gnawing anxiety in my mind and heart. That is priceless.
Thank you so much to the manager and team. This is a lovely care home run in a way that inspires confidence.

The family's experience of the care home has been generally very good. The staff and friendly and caring and any requests are dealt with efficiently. My mother is always happy in herself and that is very reassuring to the family.

Following a series of falls and hospital admissions, my 91-year-old mother clearly needed 24-hour nursing care. I have visited a number of care homes and can say confidently, that Green Gates is by far one of the best. I live a long distance away from the area and have had no issues contacting my mother
either because one of the staff will take a mobile phone and contact me or will take the home's mobile phone to my mother when I call. The information shown in the daily care plan are incredibly detailed and the online portal system is very comforting as I can check my mother's care on a daily basis. Every time either my sisters or I have visited Green Gates, we have always been welcomed by the staff who are extremely friendly and supportive. My mother is clearly very well settled and happy and although she generally prefers to stay in her room, she always reports that the food is good and the staff are lovely. Although my mother's room is rather small it is well-appointed.

My husband aged 90 was here for a two week stay with nursing care after being in hospital. This was a very disappointing experience. I had thought that being part of BUPA would have been some sort of guarantee of reasonable standards. There was no attention to detail and the minimum possible service
was provided. Some of the food was of poor quality; no daily shower; call button never answered; no checking for falls. Most basic care (removal of dentures at night for example) was not carried out. Often a strong smell of faeces permeated the whole establishment. It was impossible to find anyone to speak to in the evenings when I visited and impossible to get through on the phone.

I live some distance from Oxford and have not been able to visit as frequently as I would have liked. My ratings are therefore provisional. On the whole, my sister is being well looked after and seems to have adjusted well to Green Gates. At times there seems to be a shortage of staff leading to delays
in responding to requests. Improvements to some areas of the home are taking place.

I have always had positive experiences at Green Gates. When problems have arisen they have been dealt with promptly and I have been kept informed. The staff are friendly and are normally available when required. My mother is always happy when I visit and she is clean and well dressed. Her room is normally
clean and tidy but when concerns have arisen they are dealt with quickly and efficiently.

I have watched Green Gates Care Home get to a point where all their staff left together just after Christmas, at which point I feel the care home was crashing. The then-manager left in October 2022 and since then this care home has run with agency staff only and this is unacceptable, there is no continuity
in the home and no permanent staff. I witnessed, back in October, no heating for over two months, when I visited. The temporary management are focused on paperwork and not residents and there is never enough staff, the activities in this home are very poor.

We chose Greengates for my in-laws at the end of 2017 (one resident for 4 years and the other over 5). It was stable and well-managed, led by a longstanding manager and head nurse, with some of the nursing staff there for over 20 years. Sadly, the manager and head nurse moved on within weeks. The home
was then led by a series of managers and at times, it was difficult to know who was in charge and sometimes even the staff didn't know.
Some longstanding nurses and carers were excellent, but there were a lot of agency staff nurses and carers and a lack of proper filing of notes on residents' files (e.g. no agreed advance care plan for end-of-life was found on files when needed in an emergency when paramedics present), which led us to complain and also question the standard of care on a number of occasions. Even if staffing levels meet CQC requirements, extremely busy staff meant very long waits when buzzers were pressed for help to go the bathroom or even to get a drink.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2023

I am the home manager at Green Gates. I worked in the NHS for some years after qualifying as a nurse. My speciality was orthopaedics. When I had my first child I decided to leave the NHS and move into the care sector. I have now been a manager for approximately 10 years.


What I love most about my job is the variety - every day is different.


Outside of work, I live in Bicester with my husband and two children who are 7 and 12 years old. I enjoy reading and travelling.

I joined Bupa in 2018, initially as a carer. I completed my NVQ3 and became a senior carer before moving to the financial administrator role around 18 months ago. My job involves managing the financial accounts of all residents and keeping the system up to date. It also involves ordering, payments, managing petty cash and completing financial reports.


Before joining Bupa, I worked in retail management and various HR positions for about 16 years. Following my nan getting dementia - which progressed very quickly - and spending a lot of time with her, I thought a career in care might be something I could be good at. When I turned 40, I bit the bullet and applied at Green Gates.


I love being able to help people - whether it be residents, staff or visitors. If I can do something that makes their life a little easier or puts a smile on their face, I can go home happy.


I am a confident, hard-working woman and pride myself on doing a good job. I have RA which I manage well and do not let hold me back. I have a partner called Dave and one son who is nearly 25. Outside of work, I like music, books and a good horror film!

I qualified as a nurse in 1998 after completing a diploma in general nursing and midwifery in India. I worked in a hospital in India until 2002 before moving to the UK. I have worked for Bupa since April 2005.


I love my job - every day is different at Green Gates and I enjoy building relationships with our residents and their families.


I have two children and live with my family in Oxford. Outside of work, I love keeping active - going to the gym and for walks. I also like going to India to see my family and friends at least once every year.
