Green Gates offers residential, nursing, palliative, post-operative and respite care as well as support for adults with long term conditions. The home also offers a space for people to rest, relax and recover for short stays too!

Situated in the pleasant area of Summertown the home has a lovely relaxed homely atmosphere and is surrounded by beautiful gardens with outdoor seating. There are also multiple communal areas and private dining facilities helping residents to relax and socialise.

The home retains many of its original features with rooms of varying sizes and aspects to suit an individual’s needs. All rooms are en-suite with bathroom facilities, Wi-Fi, and Smart TV included.

Green Gates is located in a prime area of North Oxford, conveniently located between Oxford city centre and Oxford Ring Road and is within a short walk to Summertown shopping centre. There is a frequent bus service to Oxford city centre just 100 yards away.

Mealtimes and special occasions are important to the home’s life, with food prepared by their chef manager and a balanced diet enjoyed by all. Afternoon tea and homemade cake are popular additions to the menu!

There’s a real sense of community at Green Gates. An experienced, dedicated and diverse team really explore what residents enjoy doing and the home's social and activities calendar is organised around those interests.

We chose Greengates for my in-laws at the end of 2017 (one resident for 4 years and the other over 5). It was stable and well-managed, led by a longstanding manager and head nurse, with some of the nursing staff there for over 20 years. Sadly, the manager and head nurse moved on within weeks. The home
was then led by a series of managers and at times, it was difficult to know who was in charge and sometimes even the staff didn't know.
Some longstanding nurses and carers were excellent, but there were a lot of agency staff nurses and carers and a lack of proper filing of notes on residents' files (e.g. no agreed advance care plan for end-of-life was found on files when needed in an emergency when paramedics present), which led us to complain and also question the standard of care on a number of occasions. Even if staffing levels meet CQC requirements, extremely busy staff meant very long waits when buzzers were pressed for help to go the bathroom or even to get a drink.

Our cousin arrived directly from hospital after a stroke six weeks earlier with grade 2 pressure sores! These then deteriorated to grade 4 sores and became the subject of 'a letter of candour' and an apology from Green Gates Care Home. She was 'allowed' to fall out of bed. Staff attentions are now much
improved but telephone contact with staff is very poor and this is important as I live in Bournemouth - 2 hours away by car.

I found the common areas of the home untidy with a general air of decay. My mother's room needed a clean and polish; her bathroom was cluttered and grimy. Her wheelchair had a frayed tyre. Reception phone ringing unanswered for long periods.

I cannot say thank you enough to the team at Green Gates. No matter how busy they may be with the general day-to-day running of the place, they always take time to speak to the family and answer any question or concern that we might have.

My grandmother has been at Green Gates for short-term care, myself and my family would not have enough words to thank all the team at green gates! My grandmother was very well taken care of! She has had a great recovery during 2 at Green Gates. The least I could do is to leave our family experience

The visit with mum today was difficult dut to the COVID situation, however, the staff and management made every effort to make my visit as good as possible. Mum was looking well and is being very well looked after in these uncertain times. My visit has put my mind at rest knowing mum is being very well

I have put 'good' for food. The trouble is I am a very fussy eater. But amazingly there are alternative menus available, when the kitchen is closed there are alternative menus available. When the kitchen is closed between 6.30pm and 6.30am, sandwiches, cereals are available.
I put 'good' for activities.
I am in a battery-powered wheelchair and I want to be able to get into the garden myself but there are unsteady ramps at each door.

Green Gates is a small home with a very family atmosphere. She was very pleased with the company and care. Once she became bedbound and was no longer able yo participate; she was thrilled by visits to her room, where staff spoke with her, trimmed her nails and fed. Their response was very warm, and
I was well supported in her final moments by the night staff.

My father is well cared for and comfortable. He has a good relationship with the staff, who recognise his individual needs. His health has improved and the staff are friendly and welcoming to family and friends.

Green Gates Nursing Home was able to admit the resident at very short notice when it became clear that he needed help - so he was admitted later that day. He regained strength and mobility during his stay and was later able to transfer to a residential home.

Care for my mother has been very good at Green Gates. Staff are attentive and courteous and the atmosphere is always calm and welcoming. Green Gates is a smaller residential home than she was in previously and there is a more domestic feeling to it that creates a positive vibe throughout.

Such a lovely place for my dad to be. He is extremely well cared for by a fabulous team of positive, caring staff. The food is lovely and he is looked after and kept safe and very comfortable at all hours of the day.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2023

I am the home manager at Green Gates. I worked in the NHS for some years after qualifying as a nurse. My speciality was orthopaedics. When I had my first child I decided to leave the NHS and move into the care sector. I have now been a manager for approximately 10 years.


What I love most about my job is the variety - every day is different.


Outside of work, I live in Bicester with my husband and two children who are 7 and 12 years old. I enjoy reading and travelling.

Louise De Fraine

Job Title: Financial Administrator Joined: 2018

I joined Bupa in 2018, initially as a carer. I completed my NVQ3 and became a senior carer before moving to the financial administrator role around 18 months ago. My job involves managing the financial accounts of all residents and keeping the system up to date. It also involves ordering, payments, managing petty cash and completing financial reports.


Before joining Bupa, I worked in retail management and various HR positions for about 16 years. Following my nan getting dementia - which progressed very quickly - and spending a lot of time with her, I thought a career in care might be something I could be good at. When I turned 40, I bit the bullet and applied at Green Gates.


I love being able to help people - whether it be residents, staff or visitors. If I can do something that makes their life a little easier or puts a smile on their face, I can go home happy.


I am a confident, hard-working woman and pride myself on doing a good job. I have RA which I manage well and do not let hold me back. I have a partner called Dave and one son who is nearly 25. Outside of work, I like music, books and a good horror film!

I qualified as a nurse in 1998 after completing a diploma in general nursing and midwifery in India. I worked in a hospital in India until 2002 before moving to the UK. I have worked for Bupa since April 2005.


I love my job - every day is different at Green Gates and I enjoy building relationships with our residents and their families.


I have two children and live with my family in Oxford. Outside of work, I love keeping active - going to the gym and for walks. I also like going to India to see my family and friends at least once every year.
