Green Gates offers residential, nursing, palliative, post-operative and respite care as well as support for adults with long term conditions. The home also offers a space for people to rest, relax and recover for short stays too!

Situated in the pleasant area of Summertown the home has a lovely relaxed homely atmosphere and is surrounded by beautiful gardens with outdoor seating. There are also multiple communal areas and private dining facilities helping residents to relax and socialise.

The home retains many of its original features with rooms of varying sizes and aspects to suit an individual’s needs. All rooms are en-suite with bathroom facilities, Wi-Fi, and Smart TV included.

Green Gates is located in a prime area of North Oxford, conveniently located between Oxford city centre and Oxford Ring Road and is within a short walk to Summertown shopping centre. There is a frequent bus service to Oxford city centre just 100 yards away.

Mealtimes and special occasions are important to the home’s life, with food prepared by their chef manager and a balanced diet enjoyed by all. Afternoon tea and homemade cake are popular additions to the menu!

The home seems more geared to people who are less able and need nursing care. In our experience, many residents seem unable to leave their rooms unaided. To a degree, this leads to some regimentation with tea, drinks, etc. being at prescribed times. Whilst understandable, some flexibility with more
able residents would be beneficial. This follows through to the activities which appear geared to the wider group.
The gardens were lovely last year but at the time of writing the weather and lack of a gardener have taken their toll.
Overall the staff are friendly, caring and helpful.

My father-in-law had a recent stay at Green Gates Care Home just before Christmas. This was due to an illness that we felt would be better looked after in a care setting. This was no easy decision, and the sense of guilt we had as a family was incredibly overwhelming. Right from our first visit to Green
Gates though, we were made to feel so welcome. The staff treated us as if we had known them for years and we knew straight away that Green Gates was the best place for him.
The care that he received throughout his stay was second to none and we found everybody to be approachable and understanding of our needs as well as my fathers-in-law's. I pleased to say that during his time at Green Gates, he made a remarkable recovery and is doing better than ever. The food was brilliant, we even ate there a couple of times while visiting, and the facilities, although lacking an ensuite bath or shower, were perfect for what we needed.

My seven-night stay at Green Gates followed surgery at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. From the time I arrived until the time I left, the collective efforts of the management, nursing staff and general staff were truly excellent. They were all cheerful, professional and always available. I was
always consulted on the meals I was served with, and the regular supply of tea and biscuits was most welcome. As indicated elsewhere on the form I would recommend Green Gates to anyone who was searching for a care home.

My mother was always treated with care and respect and her needs were met by very responsive staff. When I visited her, there was always someone to welcome us and to listen to any questions or concerns we had. The general sitting area was always warm and very clean and there was always somewhere we
could sit and have a cup of tea together. The food looked delicious with a good choice each day. There were lots of personal touches that made her stay stress-free. The dedicated staff can't be praised highly enough. Well done - an amazing team!

All the Green Gates staff, nursing, carers and office, are sympathetic to the needs of my deteriorating vascular Parkinsonism husband. As an elderly wife, I also appreciate the care given to him and the support to myself.
I must not forget the domestic staff or those in the kitchen and the chef who
produces the food that my husband enjoys.
My son chose well with Green Gates.

I cannot praise Green Gates enough, they went above and beyond the call of duty. My mum was very poorly when she went in there from the hospital. She was treated with compassion, respect, dignity, kindness and lots of love and that was from all the staff. It was like home from home. I cannot thank them
all enough, even in my mum's last days they allowed me to stay with her day and night.


They made sure I was ok and provided lots of hugs. I would recommend Green Gates to anyone. The love that they had shown was second to none and they made what was a very difficult time a bit easier. Thank you to the manager and the team.

Green Gates nursing care home is most professionally run and very caring towards their patients. They are responsive to all requests and all their ancillary services are provided well. I was impressed at the very efficient way the management dealt with my request for care. The deputy management is exemplary

I spent one week at Green Gates while an accessible bathroom has installed at home. I was accepted as a full member of the home, joined in activities, had lunch with other residents and met and talked with visiting carers. I chose this home because of the warmth and welcome of the manager. I judged
it was efficiently run with enough and well-trained staff who were well managed. Residents were respected well, understood and encouraged to be themselves and be comfortable.

Overall the experience of my late wife's time in Green Gates was very positive, and a better experience than we could have achieved if she had been at home in those last 5-6 months. I am grateful to the staff for being not just tolerant but supportive of what must have been at least minor eccentricities;
my staying with my wife almost 24/7; the vegetarian diet; the early morning walks while my wife was still mobile. As she became less mobile she sometimes chafed against the limitations of her movement, but with hindsight, I can see how sensitively as well as effectively the staff handled sometimes difficult situations. It was a caring personal relationship that several staff were able to form with my wife and myself in those few months.

My father came to Green Gates Care Home for palliative care and spent his last 10 days there. The staff were so compassionate as well as professional. My mother and I felt supported at every stage and the room was very pleasant and well equipped. My father was well cared for in every way and despite
the severity of his condition and poor diagnosis, he did not suffer at all.

Recently I stayed at Green Gates for two weeks respite care.
That was my second visit.
During the Easter holidays, I was there for three days.
On both occasions, I was made very welcome by a very competent management.
The staff were wonderful, kind, caring and no request was too much trouble for
them.
I felt very safe and well cared for.

My father was well cared for at Green Gates. He seemed happy, was always clean, and never showed any signs of distress at being a resident. He was a resident for 17 weeks, on end of life care and I believe that his last weeks were dignified and comfortable, despite the expected deterioration in his
health. He always appeared pleased to interact with the staff, all of whom dealt with him respectfully.
Slight negatives to mention would be the fact that specific information relating to my father was not requested on his arrival, in fact, the information was only requested from my mother a week before he died. Because of this, he was frequently offered some food and drinks items he never liked, e.g tea and coffee.
Also, specific instructions given to the staff relating to the nature of his stay were frequently contradicted, again down to lack of written information about his condition.
On the whole, though, the staff work very hard in trying circumstances to provide a good level of care.

My late wife was looked after at the Green Gates Nursing Home in Oxford for just over two years before she passed away from Parkinson's Disease. She was well looked after from the day she arrived by the care staff, the nurses, and other staff at the care home.
The room she was in was large and comfortable
and overlooked an enclosed garden. Meals were varied and of good quality. In addition, there was a leisure program that included recitals, sing-a-longs, day trips and more. I am very grateful to all at Green Gates for their care of my late wife, and would not hesitate to recommend it to others who need care.

Sharon Lamb

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2023

I am the home manager at Green Gates. I worked in the NHS for some years after qualifying as a nurse. My speciality was orthopaedics. When I had my first child I decided to leave the NHS and move into the care sector. I have now been a manager for approximately 10 years.


What I love most about my job is the variety - every day is different.


Outside of work, I live in Bicester with my husband and two children who are 7 and 12 years old. I enjoy reading and travelling.

Louise De Fraine

Job Title: Financial Administrator Joined: 2018

I joined Bupa in 2018, initially as a carer. I completed my NVQ3 and became a senior carer before moving to the financial administrator role around 18 months ago. My job involves managing the financial accounts of all residents and keeping the system up to date. It also involves ordering, payments, managing petty cash and completing financial reports.


Before joining Bupa, I worked in retail management and various HR positions for about 16 years. Following my nan getting dementia - which progressed very quickly - and spending a lot of time with her, I thought a career in care might be something I could be good at. When I turned 40, I bit the bullet and applied at Green Gates.


I love being able to help people - whether it be residents, staff or visitors. If I can do something that makes their life a little easier or puts a smile on their face, I can go home happy.


I am a confident, hard-working woman and pride myself on doing a good job. I have RA which I manage well and do not let hold me back. I have a partner called Dave and one son who is nearly 25. Outside of work, I like music, books and a good horror film!

Milagrin Maskaren

Job Title: RGN Joined: 2005

I qualified as a nurse in 1998 after completing a diploma in general nursing and midwifery in India. I worked in a hospital in India until 2002 before moving to the UK. I have worked for Bupa since April 2005.


I love my job - every day is different at Green Gates and I enjoy building relationships with our residents and their families.


I have two children and live with my family in Oxford. Outside of work, I love keeping active - going to the gym and for walks. I also like going to India to see my family and friends at least once every year.
