I have found the staff to be very friendly and caring. Not every day is the same but as far as I am concerned nothing is bad.
Unfortunately, the maintenance is not as good as the care. Since moving into my current room several months ago, I have had no hot water in my bathroom.
The food is generally
good but is often disappointing due to poor menu planning.
Normally I feel at ease and comfortable in my room.
Reply from Tori Blackadder, Marketing Assistant at Chestnut View Care HomeThank you for taking the time to review Chestnut View.
We value your feedback and are pleased to read you feel at ease and are comfortable in your room.
We are aware of the ongoing issue with the hot water to your bathroom and continue to work with external suppliers to resolve this, as it is not something our own maintenance team can fix.
Thank you for sharing that you would like menu planning given more consideration. Our regular resident meetings provide opportunities to discuss this.

Just to say I came here by ambulance after a fall at the residential home in which I was living.
I have been very well cared for here.
It was a shock to me but I have been treated with respect and I am gradually getting acclimatised.
It is a cheerful place to be.

Stupefying repetitive food, inedible. Help of very limited quality and a language problem I don't need. Apart from that...Air quality is good, convenient location for family and mostly willing to help with dressing and chores. Activities are not needed, it is not possible for me to move normally.

Over the past couple of months, the home has been replacing members of staff due to people moving on, during this time they have maintained their usual, exceptionally high standards of care for my mother. The remaining staff and the new members of staff now on board and joining the team, deserve a pat
on the back for the way they always go beyond what is expected of them. My family and I are very grateful. We especially appreciate the fact that the in-house management are so approachable and are so knowledgeable about the needs of their residents.

Wonderful care home. All of the staff are just so loving and caring whilst showing great respect to the people in their care and their families. They showed my husband great compassion and I shall always be in debt to them all. Over the 4 years I knew them, they became my second loving home and family.

Chestnut View has had a difficult 6 months with a temporary manager (now sorted)/
The staff could not be kinder or more thoughtful. I was informed when talking to an excellent new member of staff how little formal training he had done. Activity notices need to be in a larger font.

Staff are all very caring, although some need more training and understanding in how they deal with dementia. Currently, they lack leadership, although I understand that this is to be resolved this coming week with the appointment of a team leader and more organised responsibilities and tasks.
I have
requested that my husband's washing is put into a bag for my collection. Why do care home laundry to everything on a boil wash? With no regard to colour or garment!
Good management structure improving weekly.

I find Chestnut View attractive welcoming and well run. My Father is cared for well and has settled in as well as can be expected. The staff are friendly and provide good care to my father and to me when visiting. My Fathers needs are met and he appreciates what the home does for him. My Father has
been at the home for approximately 5 months over a winter/spring period and we look forward to the summer months.

A first-class care home, providing excellent service and care. Cheerful, friendly and obliging staff. All aspects of care very good. Food is first-class, plentiful, varied and nutritious. The staff are a team who work together very well many of whom seem to have been here a long time. All services are
provided e.g activities, hairdressing, chiropody. Set in a lovely town with rural views and a peaceful setting.

All my family and friends have nothing but praise for your home. We knew when we first came into your front room, that this was the home for dad.

All the management and carers in your home are so friendly and caring. Nothing was too much trouble.

The activity carers are brilliant, so helpful and

so much fun for everyone, including us as a family. Dad is unwell at the moment but we have been kept up to date with all his treatments, and they look after us just as well. Well done everyone. See you all soon.

My mother has been at Chestnut View for over eighteen months. She is settled and happy there. The carers and nursing staff are lovely, friendly and patient. They take time to talk to her, and visitors are made welcome too. She is confined to bed and completely reliant on care but has not had problems
with bed sores, etc. and medically any problems are picked up quickly. Her room and other areas are kept clean. The room is bright and airy with a lovely view over the green.
Only criticism is the food which is not great, she requires a soft diet and daily receives the same unidentifiable pureed lumps which she dislikes, rather than mashed normal food which was provided in hospital and enjoyed. Have tried to get food improved but not succeeded!

Mum became a resident at Chestnut View Care Home just before Christmas 2015. Since then we have got to know the staff quite well. We are always greeted with a friendly smile whenever we visit in offers of tea/coffee and biscuits. Mum's room is light and clean and she has settled well.
The food is great
and the menu varied with plenty of choices. There are plenty of day trips and activities including an "Abba" afternoon which was great fun. A big thank you from all the family for making such a high level of care and support to mum.

My aunt has been at Chesnut View for two years, suffering from mild learning needs and dementia as well as being in her late 80's. I have been very impressed with the standard of care provided, especially since there's been a new manager. My aunt is happy, well looked after and has plenty of activities
and socialising on a regular basis. She enjoys her life, the carers always go the extra required to make activities suitable to all residents. The food is good, visitors are warmly welcomed (including pet dogs!) and you're always greeted on 1st name terms. Most importantly it is clear the staff do care about the happiness of their residents, which is the biggest positive for any relative.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.387)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.387) out of 10 for Chestnut View Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 12 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.587 for Chestnut View Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (89 Excellents x 5) + (41 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 138 Ratings = 4.587
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Chestnut View Care Home is based on 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 12 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
