I have lived here for more than ten years, the atmosphere is great for all sorts of people and it's great to see the friendly way we are looked after and given the chance to not only make friends with both residents (like myself) but also with the staff. The atmosphere is friendly and definitely great for visitors.

I arrived at Wingham Court Care Home, beautifully prepared for Christmas. More than one Christmas tree and lots more making Wingham look welcoming as ever. A very friendly and warm hub in reception, where my brother likes to spend time and enjoys the friendly company. Overall impression, very good indeed.

My mum has received excellent care, love and kindness at Wingham Court. She has complex needs and these are managed so well and they treat her like family. Through lockdowns, they did so much to keep Mum and everyone happy, entertained and safe.

Great home. My partner has been a resident for a few months. He seems really happy. The staff always make time for him. He recently had a birthday, and the staff went above and beyond to make his day special. His room is spacious and nicely decorated. Food always looks appetising. Gardens and grounds are beautiful. A special mention to the physio staff who do an amazing job. Would highly recommend this home.

My sister came to Wingham Court Care Home after a long illness. Her health has improved drastically with the care received here. The grounds are well kept and a pleasure. She was in the hospital for seven months and I feared she would never see the sky again, so the gardens are important to us. The staff are always available and pleasant. There is a lovely vibe in the place. We have had clothing going missing and maybe a few more outings as she feels very cut off from society, but overall 10/10 from family.

Reply from David Mclean, Customer Service Adviser at Wingham Court Care Home

Thank you for your kind words and feedback. We are glad to hear that you have been making full use of our gardens, especially after her time elsewhere for the past seven months. We will certainly pass your comments in regards to the clothing and arranging outings on to the management team for you. Thank you for your comments.

Management are always available to help me with any concerns I have. Currently, the food lacks variety but I can order off-menu if I need to. Carers have limited time to assist me and seem disorganised.

My relative has lived here for almost two decades and has always been treated well. I like that he has the freedom to go outside and is not confined to his room. The pleasant scenery is very beneficial to his mental health. Overall, I've had a good experience with this care home.

My husband and I visited my sister on her seventieth birthday in Wingham Court Care Home, where she has been a resident for eighteen years. Whilst it has been difficult to visit her recently, we found the staff very welcoming and helpful to both us and my sister. The staff are clearly very kind to my sister and look after her well in difficult circumstances and we are very satisfied with the care she receives.

I have been visiting my friend for several years before lockdown. Since lockdown, I have visited a few times with differing restrictions. I think the home has been very responsive in its care for residents and I was made adequately aware of the rules applied. I have nothing but respect for the home and its people, both residents and carers. It seems to be well-run and has a caring attitude. Where I have omitted the ratings, it is because they do not apply to me.

Shalimar Tan
Shalimar TanJob Title:Unit ManagerJoined: 2016

I have been Unit Manager at Wingham Court since 2018, and I joined Bupa in 2016. I began my career as a pre-registered nurse until I got my NMC PIN in February 2017.

Then, I became a registered nurse/staff nurse from 2017 to 2018, until I became a Unit Manager.

I am an overseas nurse, recruited and sponsored by Bupa from the Philippines. I have experience in Adult/Critical Care Nursing in the Philippines, which helped me pursue a career in the care home sector in the UK.

Being able to make a difference in someone's life and to be part of their journey encourages me to continue my career in Care Services. I enjoy seeing the positive impact of the care we deliver in Wingham Court, to both our residents and their families.

I have been living in the UK since 2016. My family is back home in the Philippines and my husband just recently joined me in the UK last year. I live local to Wingham Court.

If I'm not working, I enjoy going out for walks or going to places around the UK with my friends. I like to try new adventures on my travels. I am a coffee lover and I enjoy trying different cuisines.

Emerie BurnsJob Title:Senior Activity Co-ordinatorJoined: 2017

My career at Wingham Court began in 2017, I took a short break in service but returned to work in 2023. I have been in my role as Senior Activity Co-ordinator since the beginning of 2024.

I initially joined Wingham Court as a Care Assistant. I have completed several courses over the years to progress my knowledge and skills to support my development. One role that I experienced was Mental Well-Being Co-ordinator, working closely with residents who live with Dementia.

I moved to the UK from the Philippines, and back home I was working with the Squadron Director of the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary, assisting and promoting the safety of life and property at sea - to help protect the marine environment. We also supported community events and search rescue operations. It is in my nature to care for people, and it was my job to take good care of civilians for their safety and I was there to support them in whatever they needed.

I also studied Care back home, I completed my training in hospitals. I took good care of both my Grandparents and my Dad. Caring is my passion and I love making a positive difference in people's lives.

I enjoy working alongside my Care Services team very much. I go home feeling proud each day that I have made our residents smile and led fun activities for everyone to join. Making a difference is my inspiration.

I was born in the Philippines, in a place known for its clean and clear water, with numerous wonderful waterfalls - called Libacao Aklan. I am one of six children. My late dad was the former Chief of Police in my hometown while my mom had a little trading business.

I love fashion, and I used to participate in beauty pageants. I also love singing, in fact, I was a vocalist in a band and performed in front of a big crowd back home. Some of my hobbies are DIY, reading books, Zumba (I am a licenced instructor) inspiring others and promoting physical, social and mental wellbeing. Lastly, I am a rising digital creator on the Metaverse social media platform.

Vlada PascenkoJob Title:Registered NurseJoined: 2021

I began my career with Bupa in 2021, beginning as a Bank Nurse at Wingham Court and working up to becoming a full-time Registered Nurse.

While I was completing my degree in Nursing, I carried out two placements at Wingham Court as part of my course. Once I had finished my studies, I worked in a Neuro Hospital to gain more experience, but I always knew I wanted to come back to work at Wingham Court.

I enjoy working alongside my Care Services team very much. Every day at work is different and I love making a difference in people's lives.

My hobby is tennis, both playing and watching. I like travelling, and working at Wingham Court allows me flexibility in my working hours to ensure I have a good work/home life balance. I am married and have a little boy, Raphael, who is almost 21 months.
