When a loved on has to go into a nursing home, the biggest worry for the family is will they be treated kindly, with care and with dignity. At Heatherdene Nursing Home we had no worries at all about any of those issues. The care and kindness that my husband received were second to none and were a source of great comfort to all the family. Thank you, everyone, you made my husband's last few months so easy for him and he always seemed happy and content.

Rather difficult for me to asses as we visit individually approx six weekly. She is regularly confused, so we are not sure how good the food is, etc (and haven't seen it), but we take her overall appearance as a sign that she is cared for well.

We are not involved in the financial side of things either.

Mum's stay was for respite care following a fall at home by her husband, which meant he was unable to provide his normal care as Mum is disabled and wheelchair-bound.

From the moment of initial contact with management, the respite was organised very efficiently. Mum is not the easiest of patients but was made to feel part of what appears to be a large, happy family atmosphere. Would definitely recommend Heatherdene to anyone needing care.

My mother spent the last 4.5 years of her life in Heatherdene Nursing Home, during which time she was extremely well looked after. Pre-Covid when we could just pop in anytime, she was always clean, tidy and comfortable. The whole service was excellent, but I would like to say that the care that she received was very genuine from all members of staff. She could be difficult at times but this was always dealt with with patience, kindness and a caring manner.

My father was treated with complete respect at all times. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The food looked amazing and we were always offered tea, coffee and biscuits when visiting. I would highly recommend Heatherdene Nursing Home to anyone who cares about their loved ones.

The medical care and dignity afforded to my mother during the last month of her life was brilliant. The home is clean and well cared for, as are the residents. The food is varied and tailored to individual needs and the activities are well designed to appeal to all residents. Information on the well being of your relative is always supplied and you are welcomed into the home.

Before I visited the home and spoke to the manager I was anxious about how my husband would cope with being away from home for ten days of respite care. But I needn't have worried. Right from the start he was made to feel welcome and comfortable and he was very impressed with the meals - he gave full marks to the chef and kitchen staff. I was impressed by the atmosphere in the home which was warm and welcoming.
All his needs were met with professionalism, and kindness by the staff, especially the nurses.
Heatherdene is extremely well run and the manager is to be commended for the caring and efficient way in which she manages the home.
Although looking forward to coming home my husband told me he felt sad to be leaving and would be happy to return to Heatherdene for any future respite stays.

Many thanks from my Husband and myself.

From the first moment we entered Heatherdene Nursing Home we knew we had found the best possible place for my wife. The home was clean bright and happy, the staff friendly. All the staff quickly knew each member of the family who visited and always made a point of speaking. During my wife’s relatively short stay she was treated with consideration and care. Unfortunately, she became increasingly poorly and received end of life care. This was given with empathy and great care to ensure that she was comfortable, pain free and peaceful to the end. In addition the support given to family members and to myself at this time, and throughout her stay, was exemplary. My grateful thanks to all staff at Heatherdene Nursing Home.

It was lovely to be able to see my dad over Christmas, especially on Christmas day. All of the staff I encountered where very welcoming and friendly and knew my dad very well. I was especially pleased that I was able to see a video of dad singing carols and enjoying himself at the Christmas celebration that a kind member of staff had taken. Dad genuinely appreciates what the staff do for him especially the Manager. I stayed with Dad while he ate his Christmas lunch and it looked delicious and he enjoyed it, complete with cracker. I would like to thank all of the staff for what they do to care for dad for the whole of the year. It always seems to me to be a very happy home.

Review from Raymond B (Cousin of Resident) published on 5 October 2021 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

It was in February 2021 that my cousin was put in crisis, because of Covid her existing home had to close. Heatherdene offered her a place, she accepted and was welcomed in. She was so happy to be back in her own area of Sidley. She found she knew some of the staff and residents. She enjoyed her new bright and airy environment. The staff both day and night were always very attentive. An excellent relationship was built up between management and staff to ensure all went well. The Zoom meetings topped it off!

Review from S W (Stepdaughter of Resident) published on 13 August 2021 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

Friendly, efficient, obliging and Covid precautions adhered to. My stepmother's room is fresh, homely and comfortable with private facilities. The home was prepared for our visit - first in a year because of distance and Covid - to celebrate her 98th birthday. Banners and balloons, a gold coloured plate for the cake and tea. She looked well cared for and comfortable but she is bedbound and cannot join in activities. They cope well with her moods and slight dementia. She is moved regularly and kept clean. She has even put on weight! So well done and thank you.

My mother entered the nursing home due to increasing frailty and care needs. Unfortunately, she became increasingly poorly and received end of life care. This was given with great care and dignity and my mother was comfortable to the end. Our family were kept informed at all times and were also treated with great empathy. Cannot praise the home and staff enough.

Having had a wonderful previous experience where my dad was at Heatherdene, my mum is now a new resident here, although her needs are different, immediately the fantastic staff have made her feel safe and welcome. Her room is spotlessly clean, light and spacious, the staff are extremely attentive and always caring and helpful. It’s very early days for mum and she does get confused because of her dementia, but there’s always a carer around with a kind word and reassurance. I can’t recommend Heatherdene highly enough, from the manager to every member of staff, it really is the best care home around.

My brother-in-law suffered a serious hip injury following a fall and after admission to hospital contracted covid-19. I was so relieved when he was admitted to Heatherdene because he finally received the love and care that he deserved. The team are kind and very caring and they made sure his end of life was calm and dignified. My grateful thanks to the whole team.
