The care of our mother was second to none. She came to Sovereign Lodge from the hospital with advanced vascular dementia and a broken hip. All the carers, nurses, activity managers and senior staff have been amazing. They treated her with kindness, compassion, dignity and respect whilst maintaining the utmost professionalism. They also cared for us as a family during very difficult times. Our profound thanks to all.

My husband was only in Sovereign Lodge for three weeks. While there, he was treated very well, and once he got used to being there was quite happy. They didn't have many activities for the first two weeks due to Covid, but he took part in them in the third week. We found our family were made very welcome when we visited, and there was a nice atmosphere in the home.

Thank you for your review. It was a pleasure to offer the care and support your husband needed, and he had a lovely time during his respite stay in Sovereign Lodge. Take care and best wishes from all of the team.

I have not been able to fault the care given from the marking of laundry to the boundless energy of the activity organiser - great. A great improvement over my mother's previous care provider. Sovereign Lodge is not stuffy and it does not smell of wee!

Been here only two and a half weeks but first impressions, were warm and welcoming but the house and accommodation wanted to move quickly and this was facilitated by all staff. The previous house was understaffed and undertrained but did their best but a very noisy place. The lodge is very much quieter and I feel more secure. Allowed to manage tablets and medicines - a great help. Encouraged to be as independent as is safe.

Mum was here under discharge to assess for approx six weeks. During her stay, the family felt that the quality of care she received was compassionate and caring. If there were any minor issues, they were dealt with promptly. The home has a very welcoming feel to it and, overall, is an example of how a home should be.

(Funding through NHS, and no facilities used as Mum is bedridden).

My mother returned to the home after a spell in hospital on "end-of-life care" - unfortunately, she passed away today. The staff treated us with care and empathy. The nursery staff were excellent, and the manageress was excellent.

We have noticed the atmosphere in the home has changed considerably since the new manageress has been there.

We arrived with the family at Sovereign Lodge to celebrate our dear friend's 70th wedding anniversary. We were given a warm welcome by a member of staff. All arrangements had been made above and beyond the call of duty for the family to get together in a quiet room. It was a wonderful occasion, and I thank all the staff who worked so hard to ensure it was a successful gathering. All staff greeted us with a smile. Thank you all for your care and dedication.

My dad was so well looked after, and all the staff were so lovely. He was very distressed about leaving my mum, and everyone was so patient with him. The place was lovely and clean, and there was always someone cleaning whenever we were there. There were lots of activities, and they had a fabulous Jubilee party.

My mother has been in Sovereign Lodge for over three years, and she is very content. I particularly appreciate the encouragement and support the staff provides when Mum wants to walk up and down the corridor and the care taken when she falls. My only request is that she wears her own clothes, but also understand that running laundry for this size home can be difficult.

Reply from Margaret, Home Manager at Sovereign Lodge Care Centre

Thankful for your kind words. As a team, we work together to provide the best experiences for both residents and family members. Your recognition of their passion and skilled work is fantastic to hear. We are improving our system in the laundry to ensure the above incident mentioned will be avoided. We appreciate your feedback.

I had cared for my mum during the past few months after she has been diagnosed with lung cancer. I was so sad watching her become weaker and felt very concerned what to expect. When she became very poorly and at "end-of-life" came into Sovereign Lodge, I was worried about how I would find her... she was there for dour days, but in those days, she became peaceful, relaxed and her symptoms became no worse. We all said our goodbyes, and the staff were so kind. She passed away the best possible way she could.

From our family's first contact with Sovereign Lodges staff, we knew that our beloved mum was in very safe hands. Her room was light, airy and easily made "homely". Her care was exemplary, and the many kindnesses shown to her and to us, her family, are now treasured memories. Sovereign Lodge made our Mum's last few weeks wonderfully serene and happy, and for that, we express enormous gratitude. We cannot thank you enough.

We have found all the staff to be very helpful and kind. It's never an easy part of someone's life "old age", and if people go out of their way to make it better for you, it means so much to that person going through it and all the family! Margaret CoscolluelaJob Title:Home Manager

Our day-to-day can be challenging, but it requires commitment, motivation, and skills to make a vision into reality. I am passionate about delivering person-centred care to our residents and maintaining their independence as much as possible. It is a big adjustment for a resident to leave their own house and be in a nursing home, thus, we as a team help them feel welcomed and ensure a homely environment.

The best part of my working day is knowing that I have made a difference in someone's life and have helped them through a difficult situation. Knowing that a resident is satisfied with the care we provide is the greatest achievement for me at the end of the day."

I wished to be part of this growing company and be able to contribute my knowledge and skills, at the same time learning and growing with the company.

Before I came to Healthcare Homes I was an
administrator/receptionist for a different provider.

I think a person needs to be knowledgeable or must be willing to learn. You must be people orientated, know how to deal with different kinds of people in a friendly but professional manner. Must be well organised and know how to manage time. Stay calm.

The favourite part of my working day is being able to help out with the team. Completing tasks and being ready to accept more. Meeting new people.

The biggest professional challenge in my current role was moving from a corporate company where I had been for 5 years to a smaller but growing company. Luckily enough, after a few weeks of intensive training, I was able to adapt and settle quickly into my new home. Thanks to the most friendly and accommodating staff/residents and relatives of Sovereign Lodge and those at our operations office Apex.

My biggest career highlight to date? I am quite happy to see the progression of my career over the span of six years.

Qualities that make me stand out are;

A good home manager must have good leadership and at the same time be caring and have a passionate heart. Time management is also very important.

My interests outside of work are spending time with my little boy, playing in the sand or swimming together. I also like watching movies and shopping.

I look forward to working with my colleagues who are a bunch of happy and energetic people. Meeting and greeting residents and relatives. Being productive at work – being able to accomplish all tasks given

Sovereign Lodge has a very good name in the local community and I wished to have a more fulfilling job role
Before joining Healthcare Homes I was a landlady at a local public house. I had always worked in the service industry.
To be good in my role I need to be bubbly, outgoing, motivated and confident. Being able to work as part of a team or take a lead role if necessary. Energetic, enthusiastic and loving the job of making people happy.
The favourite part of my working day is putting a smile on people’s faces and making a difference. Giving residents something to look forward to.
My biggest professional challenge in my current role is being diverse in the role and giving a wide variety in the activity schedule; keeping it fresh and exciting. I am undertaking a Health Care Practitioner trainee role which I am very excited about and looking forward to the outcome.
Although there have been many highlights during my time here, none more important than walking in to the lounge areas and seeing smiling, happy residents
The qualities I have to make me stand out are good leadership qualities, being able to communicate freely with staff. Good problem solving skills

Outside of work I like spending time with my family, dining out, walking and enjoying the fresh air with loved ones, watching movies and shopping

The relationships I have formed with my colleagues and residents; it’s not just a job to me. I can honestly say in my time working here, this is my family as well as my friends
