On being told I was to go to a nursing home from the hospital, I was a bit worried, never having any experience of one. I was greatly surprised and sorry to leave today.
Reply from Paul Burns, Director at Victoria HighgroveI am very pleased that your overall experience was five-star.
Hopefully, we have given you confidence in care homes for the future, should you ever need a brief stay again.
Thank you.

My wife was very well looked after and cared for at Victoria Highgrove Care Home. Nothing was too much trouble for all the staff, day or night, and I was always made very welcome when I visited. The facilities were very comfortable, spacious and clean and I know my wife was happy there.

Lovely home and friendly staff. Clean and tidy. Great food and very clean.

This is a lovely care home. I would be happy to stay here if I needed to. My dear friend had a lovely room all to herself, with toilet and sink facilities of her own (not that she could use them), but they were there. The room was warm, totally clean and well-equipped for her needs, with a much-needed
TV, openable windows and a view. She much preferred being here than in the hospital because it was so quiet, and she could, at last, sleep at night. The staff were superb, very friendly, helpful, chatty and attentive. I was even offered a cup of coffee on one of my visits. Whether I should say this or not, they even allowed me to bring my small dog in to see my friend too. And I could park in the area out front for free, even better! Thank you to all for looking after her during the time she was with you.

The staff were kind and caring, nothing was too much trouble. I was treated with dignity and respect. My room was comfortable and bright. Due to a covid outbreak, I was unable to join any activities. The staff dealt with the outbreak superbly to keep everyone safe. If I had to choose a home to be cared
for, this would be the one. Only one issue - the TV in the room is past its sell-by date.
Reply from Paul Burns, Director at Victoria HighgroveI am very pleased your stay was so successful and will look to update the TV!
Thanks very much.

The care at the home was superb. The staff were so attentive. The manager always checked I was ok. The home was so clean and tidy. Nothing was too much trouble. I feel so much better in myself for my rehabilitation care. The activities were wonderful as I enjoyed the singers, group chat and making things,
especially a poppy for remembrance Sunday. My daughter was always kept informed of my care needs.

During her time there, my aunt's nursing home underwent a complete renovation and refurbishment. It is clean, bright and welcoming. She had a beautiful room with a sea view. The staff have always been excellent, kind, patient, compassionate and professional. The food is freshly prepared to an excellent
standard by the dedicated chef. He provides plenty of imaginative choices and presents the dishes beautifully. He always goes the extra mile for birthdays and special occasions. The staff coped incredibly well with the challenges of covid.

I was moved here after a four-week stay in hospital and was very pleasantly surprised by how friendly and welcoming the staff were. I was shown to a lovely room on the first floor with an ensuite toilet. It is lovely and clean. I was shown around the place and was impressed with the facilities. I have
had fun taking part in the activities and have made new friends with some of the other residents. The food is tasty but more vegetarian options could be offered.

The care I received was first class. All the staff were so amazing. I feel so well after staying at the home. Everyone is completely attentive to my needs and physical problems. The food is lovely and the home is spotlessly clean. I was able to go to the hairdressers and chiropodist while I was in the
home. The activities were great and I enjoyed the singers coming in. I enjoyed the treats at the home, lovely cheese and biscuits for snacks, which were such a treat. Love the percolated coffee.

I could not have been in a better place for these two months of recovery and rehab. The rooms are light and well furnished. Everyone has been kind and friendly and many of the carers went beyond the call of duty with acts of loving kindness and friendship. I will always be grateful for the care and
encouragement I have received here and will remember all the staff with affection.

Everything you would wish for in a care home, is offered at the Victoria Highgrove. We, as a family were always kept well informed and the staff are wonderful, very professional, friendly and caring. The rooms were exceptionally clean and the food plentiful. Our uncle was so very well looked after during

All the staff have looked after my husband very well indeed. Each carer/nurse has contributed to his care in their capacity. My husband cannot speak too highly of everyone there. He says if he ever had to go back to a care home, he would choose this one. I, as his wife, am so very pleased with the
care he has received - every single person has given my husband all the care he needs and it is such a relief to me to know he is being looked after so very well.

I enjoyed excellent care here and have been made to feel most welcome. The food has been outstanding and highly nutritious and is an important element of my recovery. A couple of suggestions: It would be a nice idea to have a selection of herbal teas available and to accompany the delicious soups, bread
rolls or simple slices of bread, would be good.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.791)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.791) out of 10 for Victoria Highgrove is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 63 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 63 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.791 for Victoria Highgrove is calculated as follows: ( (592 Excellents x 5) + (112 Goods x 4) + (15 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 722 Ratings = 4.791
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Victoria Highgrove is based on 63 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 24 registered maximum number of service users is 4.8, which has been reached with 63 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
