My husband went into Kings Lodge on April 1st 2020. Unfortunately during this difficult time, I have not been able to visit him due to the coronavirus shutdown. However, the staff arranged skype visits and in June organised a visiting rota so that we could see him albeit at a distance once a fortnight.
Being able to see him in the flesh has been great and also enabled my stepdaughter and me (and the dog) to meet some of the staff who have always been very helpful and amusing and obviously get on well with him. On each visit he has always looked well cared for and so much better than when he left the hospital, having settled in well.

My aunt has been resident at Kings Lodge, Chidham since April 2020 - pretty much throughout the pandemic. The manager and his staff have looked after her wonderfully. She is happy and safe - and I can relax knowing that she is being looked after.

We visited my husband for the first time in many months because of lockdown. My son and I had an excellent experience. The staff was caring and professional. My husband was settled with a book, clean-shaven, with a cup of tea. We did get a slight smile by the end of the visit. He was even looking to
have gained weight. Thank you Kings Lodge.

My father who struggles with severe dementia has been at Kings Lodge for two years. The care he receives is professional and kind. All the staff have time for all the residents and provide pastoral care as well as day to daycare. My father is safe and happy and during his final years, he has a home.

My dad has dementia and only moved into Kings Lodge in Feb 20, from the moment we viewed we knew he was going to be well looked after. The staff/manager are all so welcoming, interested in all the residents' needs, professional on all levels, entertainment team and activities are great and fun whether
it’s singing, dancing or gardening or pub quizzes they truly work so hard to keep the residents engaged. Through the pandemic the manager has kept family updated every week and has honestly done the best job at keeping my dad safe from it all, which I’ll be forever grateful for, he has shown his dedication to keeping them all safe and achieved this beyond words. Setting up facilities such as FaceTime to keep in touch and posting pictures daily just to keep family involved while not being able to see them which has meant so much to me and many more families. I couldn’t be more grateful to Kings Lodge for their constant hard work.

Kings Lodge have been wonderful with my grandma. She is 99, suffers from dementia and has been living there for just over 2 years. Everyone is so human and friendly, and they've been great at keeping in touch with my mum, who found the process of choosing and moving her in very difficult. During the
coronavirus pandemic, they've been video call relatives which has really cheered everyone up, and somehow have managed not to let the virus in. Outstanding!

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My mother-in-law has been in Kings Lodge for over 3 years, the building is modern, spacious and clean, her room light and airy. The staff are friendly and know the residents well, the place has a happy atmosphere. Whenever my mother-in-law has had a health problem, even a small one, the home has telephoned
us to let us know and where appropriate ask my wife (who holds PA for her mother) for her consent to treatment. At the start of the coronavirus pandemic the home was quick to isolate, the correct action in my opinion, and has set up a video chat so that residents can see and talk to their relatives. The home manager sends us regular updates about the lockdown by email.
Overall, I cannot fault the home.

Due to a deterioration in my Mum's dementia, it was necessary for me to move her from her previous care home where she had been very happy. I was worried that the level of care may change as well as the environment. There are no carpets or tablecloths on Mum's floor due to the severity of peoples needs
but it has been decorated to make it as homely as possible and Mum doesn't notice the difference anyway!.
I have been very happy with the staff and their caring attitude towards the residents, even before lockdown but particularly now. They are very happy to update you by phone and organise video calls to speak to loved ones, as well as keeping all amused with different activities. I have been very impressed with the manager's determination to, successfully so far, keep the virus out of the home. He has kept us regularly informed including a realistic, though scary, plan to cope with staff absences due to self-isolation which thankfully hasn't been needed.
Many thanks to all the staff!.

My Dad has been at Kings Lodge for nearly 4 years now. Can’t quite believe that! From the moment of being shown around to initial conversations to moving in and Dad living there; I have only praise for all the staff. They are always so busy but somehow find the time to make you feel welcome and reassured
about how everything is going. They care for Dad with love and a smile (even if Dad is being loud and a bit naughty). The events and activities are very special: cake mornings, lama visits, Halloween fun, Christmas dinner, singalongs... all to enhance the days of the residents. Food is great. Rooms are clean. Communication is super. Care is first class. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

My husband has been in the home for 9 months now and his and our family experience has been good. Our experience has been limited to our visits, but we have had a few grumbles from my husband, which have diminished with time. The care and kindness of the staff has been excellent. Also the occupational
therapy team, who show a great deal of patience and commitment. The medical side of care has been promptly dealt with there whenever needed. Altogether, both my husband, myself and the family are very satisfied.

My brother's care team are keen to improve his life experience. They listen to concerns and make his care plan better to suit his ever-changing needs. More care homes should work in this was to help residents to live, not just to be cared for but to continue experiences that make them happy every day.

My family are very impressed with the standard of cleanliness and equipment in my husbands room. The Christmas party was excellent and he was at his happiest with all the celebrations. At other times, he has little to occupy himself with while on his own but this can be due to him sleeping during the
day and his inability to remember what has been going on. He thoroughly enjoys fresh air and any mini-bus trips.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.872)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.872) out of 10 for Kings Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.897 for Kings Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (203 Excellents x 5) + (19 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 224 Ratings = 4.897
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Kings Lodge is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 77 registered maximum number of service users is 15.4, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
