Our dear mum moved into Melrose on September 2nd 2021 with a terminal illness. We chose this home due to its rating of excellent by CQC and as they offer end of life care. We were not disappointed.
The care manager was excellent and made herself accessible to us as needed. It was the most difficult time in my life as I watched my beloved mum draw closer to the end of her life and all of the care staff and nurses were just amazing and caring to me and my family, as well as my mum! They understood how hard it is for the relatives of their residents and were always kind, sympathetic and helpful, however busy they were.
The care the staff gave my mum was second to none and having worked in social care myself, I could not fault them. They really did care for my mum and gave her time, chatting to her and sharing a joke with her. My sister and I were able to be with her overnight as she passed away and again the care shown by the staff was exemplary.
Thank you for caring.
Over the years I have entrusted many of my clients who I am Attorney or Deputy for to the expert care of the team at Melrose.
I also have my father-in-law who has been there for the past 3 years this September.
They also provide personalised care and respect to the residents as well as thoughtfulness to the families and loved ones.
This has been evident in the way that they have supported my mother-in-law during her poor health which impacted how she could stay in contact with my father-in-law.
They clearly invest in training and have good recruitment processes since the staff are consistently excellent, despite inevitable changes
They create a homely environment, with a can do attitude, to empower the residents in ways that are individual and particular to them each.
I can not recommend them highly enough.
Mum has been in Melrose for two years now. The staff are, without exception, cheerful, incredibly kind and caring and Mum is very happy there. Personal care is excellent and Mum’s complex needs are well met. Communication with relatives during COVID has been excellent and visiting guidelines clearly explained at discussed at every step.
Mum has had a fantastic experience since she joined Melrose in November 2020 after a period in hospital. When she joined she was very depressed and not eating. However, despite being very frail she soon got to grips with zoom calls, which she really enjoyed and started eating. Now we are really enjoying trips to the garden and wheeling her to the local park. Cannot fault the care and attention given to Mum by all the staff. The level of communication between families and the home is exemplary. Thank you.
Communication is and has been exceptional throughout the Covid-19 crisis with every effort made for relatives to remain in contact with their loved ones within the constraints of the situation. Stringent health protocols followed have kept the residents well protected throughout this difficult period.
The provision of activities organised on a daily basis for both groups and individuals has been fantastic - with input when possible from the residents themselves.
Catering requirements are geared to individual needs and the quality of daily meals is outstanding. The cakes made for each resident's birthday are wonderful!
I recommend the home unreservedly.
My Mum moved into Melrose at the start of the Corona lockdown, it was obviously a very difficult time and they have made Mum very welcome, her care has been exceptional and they have ensured she feels at home. Her room is lovely and kept very clean. All staff are in the correct PPE to keep the residents safe. She has been encouraged to take part in the daily activities which have been so good for her. For myself and her family, it has been heartbreaking not being able to visit her but absolutely the right thing not to do so, but the staff have been amazing and this has really eased our sadness knowing she is receiving the gold star care.
All of the team members are exceptionally kind, caring and supportive to both mum, who is receiving end of life care, and to us her daughters. They've gone to extraordinary lengths keep everyone safe and well informed, and also entertained during the present Covid 19 crisis. They are professional and approachable at all times in my experience. Everywhere is clean, comfortable and homely.
The proprty in need of some improvement. Staff are some of the best I have met.
Staff who really care and go the extra mile.
My mother has been in Melrose for 8 years now. I truly believe without the high level of care my mum would not be with us now. I have always found the home to be clean and the staff to be caring and friendly. On the whole a superb nursing home.
My mum is very old and disabled. She has been living at Melrose for over 4 years and has been extremely well cared for. The staff and owner are all very caring and treat her with respect and compassion.
I went into Melrose in early December 2016 with a crush fracture in my spine (Osteoporosis). I received excellent care attention and help to get me back on my feet again for which I am extremely grateful and would recommend it to anyone.
Melrose goes beyond its belief to provide quality care for my Mother, and they do so in the most friendly and professional manner.
Melrose has an atmosphere of warmth, charm, welcome and friendliness the moment you walk into it for it feels like an intimate family hotel rather than a place of mere clinical care. My mother has lived there comfortably and happily for nearly 6 years now and she has always felt as if she really is in her own home. The standard of nursing and care is excellent and the staff are respectful, friendly, kind and very helpful to the residents and to their families and friends, who are always welcome. The home is clean, well maintained and attractively decorated and residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms with their own possessions. There are lovely common rooms where residents can mingle and dine together and where they can take part in a wide range of organised activities, eg floristry, singing, art. There is also a beautiful garden which residents really enjoy during the summer. The standard and variety of food is very good indeed. Altogether, Melrose is an outstanding home.
Help given at all times. Staff good, had help with hair wash and bath seat. Excellent food with good breakfast. Enjoyed my stay at Melrose Nursing Home. The admin staff posted all my letters. Staff call at 7 am and woken at 8 am. A great deal of trouble made to place me in the library (1st week). 2nd week better in the En-suite room.
My father spent the last month of his life at Melrose, calling it a Hotel for sick people, a very difficult decision for my daughter and myself as he desperately wanted to come to my house. The staff at Melrose helped us assure him it was the best thing due to all the medicines and nursing care he needed due to Pancreatic cancer. He knew he was at the end of his life and was very scared. They were so kind to him and us as support was there 24 hours. He soon settled in and tea was available whenever and anything he wanted to eat...we were invited to spend all meals times with him, he just loved this. We picked him up for days out, on the days he was well enough, the nursing staff ensured we had everything we needed. When the end came close, they explained all the mediates that he would need. We would not have got through it all without them, Thank-you Melrose.
This is a small but very homely care home and the staff are very kind, caring and attentive to the residents. My mother, who is over a 100 years and needs both nursing and full-time care is quite content, and I am more than happy to leave her in their care.
Melrose is a fantastic home that makes all its residents feel comfortable and special. The attention to detail for each individual's need is second to none and I cannot praise the staff and management highly enough. Finding unique ways to keep people engaged with things they enjoy doing is something that sets Melrose apart from many other nursing homes.
Many of my clients have, and do, reside at Melrose. The management and staff are friendly, attentive and professional. I would always recommend Melrose to anyone searching for a home in the local area.
An amazing care facility, they make all the residents feel special. I can rest easy knowing that they are being cared for and make us feel very comfortable every time we visit
Thank you so much for your wonderful review!
