Fantastic home and excellent staff, my mum went to Orchard House on April 1st in a COVID bed for rest bite. Mum went in the dementia unit I couldn’t be any happier with how she has settled in and how the staff in the unit care for her. They also contact me straight away if any concerns. Mum has now
become a permanent resident there and we couldn’t be any happier. I feel a weight has been lifted knowing she is safe and being so well cared for.

I came here from a ward in the hospital. The patient opposite cursed the nurses in the most unpleasant way so I was relieved to come to this respite home where I have my own room, even though there is banging on the floor above (the moving of heavy furniture and sometimes banging in the night down the
corridor). I came here as recommended by the doctor, it is relatively quiet so I have requested an extra week here. The food is good here and day by day I get stronger in the legs, though the physio says 'one step at a time'.

The change in my mother-in-law in less than a week is nothing short of amazing. She has dementia and was not eating or drinking properly, not talking, not walking without assistance and just slept all day. The care she has received is exceptional. Her room is homely but functional. She eats and drinks
everything. She is talking all the time, she's awake all day and walking with a stick. She truly has a new lease of life and I put it all down to the amazing care she has received at Orchard House.
Reply from Maxine Bain, General Manager at Orchard House Care HomeThank you for taking the time to share such wonderful comments. We are very proud of the team and their dedication in these difficult times.

Many good carers, real affection and interested. Looked after me kindly while I had fun.
Everything very clean - lots of hoovering!
Despite me getting angry they are patient.

The Orchards is a pleasant, clean and well-run accommodation for all residents. They have bright, cheerful staff who gain knowledge of the residents to help understand their needs and wants. I could ask no more for my mother's care.

My father-in-law went into Orchard House for end of life care, for the few weeks he was there, the staff were very professional and caring. We were always made to feel welcome when visiting day or night and nothing was too much trouble, there was always a senior carer to answer questions or put our
minds at ease.
The day he passed away, the staff went above and beyond to comfort us and were very professional.
I myself would like to thank everyone for their caring, friendship and professionalism during the last few weeks, it means a lot.

My partner has come to stay at Orchard House due to breaking his right lower leg. He came from hospital and we have been made very welcome by all the staff. They have given us their time and help to ensure my partner settled in. All the staff have been very friendly in this very stressful time. Orchard
House is a well-run nursing home and it is a pleasure to visit.

I have been very happy with the care and attention my father received throughout his time at Orchard House. The staff and management alike are second to none. Excellent facilities and food, dad was always treated with great dignity, he loved his time there. The 24-hour visiting is fantastic it takes
a lot of pressure off people who work. A huge thank you from myself and the rest of my family.

My father is looked after to a basic standard. He has advanced dementia. I feel the care could be better. He needs help and encouragement with fluids and diet and this is not always given because of staff shortages. The general cleanliness of my father could be better. Oral and foot hygiene very poor.
Dignity could be better and the handling and moving of residents could be better. Staff need to be trained and monitored to a higher standard. Staff are friendly, supportive and try to provide care but staffing levels are very poor.

Welcome friendly. Staff always greet you and take the time to talk in general and on any issues. Premises in the common areas and in the personal rooms clean, tidy and well maintained. All in all, I feel that my mother is being well looked after and very well cared for. Any concerns are dealt with quickly
and I am contacted to discuss any issues or concerns and kept well informed.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.742)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.742) out of 10 for Orchard House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 28 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.742 for Orchard House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (252 Excellents x 5) + (71 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 330 Ratings = 4.742
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Orchard House Care Home is based on 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 67 registered maximum number of service users is 13.4, which has been reached with 28 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
