Grateful for the compassion, flexibility and initiatives taken to look after her comfort, accepting mother as she was.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us your review. We are so sorry for your loss but hope that you can go away from this finding comfort from knowing your Mother was well cared for at Shockerwick House.
My mother is very well cared for. The staff are all lovely and caring. I'm so glad she's got somewhere to live comfortably for the rest of her days. My family are glad that she's safe and comfortable and we don't have to worry about her knowing she has a high standard of care. Thank you to all the staff.
We appreciate you sharing your experience with our home. We are very happy to hear that your Mother is well cared for and looked after at Shockerwick House Care Home. Providing peace of mind for families is one of our top priorities, so your words mean a lot. We're looking forward to creating many more happy memories with you and your family.
It's only a short time to write a comprehensive review, but on the whole, we are pleased with Shockerwick. There does seem to be a lack of staffing sometimes and communication is a problem as things don't seem to filter down the chain as they should. However, my husband seems settled and fairly content, so that's the main thing.
Thank you for your feedback. We will certainly pass your comments on to the management team regarding communication.
I am very impressed with the home, so different than what I had seen before. The standards are really high and the staff work so hard in ensuring Mum is cared for. She always looks well and although she doesn't say much, I think she has settled in well. She eats most of her food which is always appetising even though she has it mashed up.
The rooms are lovely and Mum's room is just right for her. I am pleased that she goes downstairs when there is any activity and is always dressed and sat up.
I would recommend this home for anyone, it's more like a family atmosphere when you visit.
Thank you for your lovely review. We are happy to hear you feel like your Mum is well cared for and that you are impressed with the high standards at Shockerwick House. Thank you again for choosing us for your Mum's care.
Without exception, everyone who works there have been so kind, thoughtful, compassionate and conscientious. His medical and personal care is wonderful. We have absolutely no worries about him.
Thank you for your kind words. It is always nice to hear that families feel our staff treat their loved ones with kindness and compassion. We hope to continue providing your Father with the best possible care.
I only have a couple of weeks before my operation to organise going into a care home to recover from surgery as I live on my own. I found the booking procedure complicated as I had to go through customer care in Leeds several times, before finally being able to speak to the home directly. However, I am very pleased to be here. The staff are welcoming, attentive and cheerful. The food has been very good and it is a relief not to have to worry about taking care of myself. The house has lovely grounds with splendid views. It would be helpful to add the WIFI code to the welcome folder- I got it from a carer but have discovered after a week it was marked in a drawer. Overall, I will recommend the care home to friends.
We appreciate you sharing your experience with our home. It is lovely to hear how well you have settled in and that we could help to put your mind at ease during your respite period. Thank you for your recommendation.
Pleasantly settled as a resident.
My mother loves it here, after a two week respite she signed up permanently for a residential room with some care provided. Since she has been there, her health, mobility & mood has all vastly improved and I have not seen her happier in many years.
The setting and the environment are homely and comfortable - although this means some of their rooms are compromised, and the facilities are limited. I am not sure that the food always meets the same high standard. It often appears over-cooked and with insufficient like of fresh fruit and vegetables (why don't they harvest the rhubarb grown in vast quantities in the garden?) It looks high calorie, high carbohydrate, low flavour, low texture and low appeal. The place is fantastic, and expensive.
Thank you for your review. We are happy to hear that you find our staff to be exceptionally caring and professional. We will certainly pass your comments regarding the food on to the chef manager however.
I'm very happy here.
We're so grateful that you've taken the time to share your thoughts. We are so pleased to hear that you are happy and comfortable at Shockerwick House Care Home. Please don't hesitate to reach out if there's anything more we can do.
The care in general for my mother has been very good. However over the last 3 days of her life the palliative care she received was outstanding and the care we received as her family was wonderful and very supportive.
Thank you for taking the time to leave your kind words. We are sorry for your loss. We are glad to help you and your family through such a difficult time and it is always nice to hear from family members feeling like their loved one has been cared for and looked after. Hopefully you will go away from this feeling like your mother received the best possible care.
Wonderful care home with excellent facilities and staff. I was given the best personal care from all the staff, from the nurses to the catering people. Everyone was so good at their job. I loved walking in the gardens and grounds. My room had a beautiful view.
Thank you for your lovely review. We are very happy to hear you felt at ease in our care. Thank you for choosing Shockerwick House Care Home for your stay.
I am writing on behalf of my father who is 94. Dad found his 2 week stay (to recover from a couple of falls) at Shockerwick House a very pleasant experience. All the staff were kind, caring and engaging. the nursing care was excellent. He really enjoyed the food, there was a good variety of options to choose from. He was lucky with the weather so has been able to go into the garden and enjoy the views. If he required any care in the future we would happily book him in with you.
Thank you for your lovely review. It is always nice to hear from family members feeling like their loved one is cared for and looked after. Thank you for choosing Shockerwick House for your stay.
I was for the second time, in respite care after an operation to fuse my ankle and foot, so in plaster too to knee. I was extremely well looked after by the care staff and the nurses. I would happily recommend Shockerwick to any of my friends looking for similar care requirements.
Thank you for your lovely review. We are so pleased to hear that you were looked after and cared for well and that you had a great time at Shockerwick House Care Home. Thank you for choosing Shockerwick House for your stay.
Having spent just two nights in hospital after my operation I was relieved to feel in safe hands with a carer or nurse checking in on me. If I needed attention my bell was almost always attended in a relatively short time. One of my ongoing necessities was to receive an ice pack every couple of hours to keep my leg from swelling. Also, not being a tea or coffee drinker, I was provided with a jug of hot water to make my own herbal teas and always provided with a cheerful smile. NB On respite after a hip replacement I was not able take advantage of activities so cannot comment on those.
Thank you for your lovely review. It is always nice to hear words like "Attractive" and "Warm" being used to describe our care. It is always nice to hear from residents feeling cared for and looked after. Thank you for choosing Shockerwick House for your stay.
We're not happy about security as one of the residents walked all the way to the main road unsupervised. Otherwise wonderful.
Thank you for your lovely review. We are very happy to hear you can feel at ease with your Godmother in our care. We hope to continue providing your loved one with the best possible care. We will discuss your feedback with the home's manager to help them continually improve their service.
All the staff at Shockerwick House Care Home without exception treated my mother and our family with the utmost kindness, warmth and dignity at the most awful of times. They went out of their way at every encounter to give my mum the peace and comfort she needed in her final days. After weeks of being treated quite inhumanely whilst in hospital, at Shockerwick my mum was treated with respect and kindness. It was the only beacon of light in a very dark summer for us all and I can't commend the staff highly enough.
Thank you for your lovely review. It is always nice to hear words like "Kindness" and "Dignity" being used to describe our care. We are glad to help you and your family through such a difficult time.
My two-week stay at Shockerwick House contributed greatly to my recuperation after a fall which fractured my pelvis. The staff were professional, kind, and helpful. They went out of their way many times to ensure that my stay was a good beneficial experience. I am very grateful to them for looking after me so well. I would have no hesitation in returning if I needed to.
We appreciate you taking the time to leave your lovely review. We are so pleased to hear that you had a positive experience at Shockerwick House Care Home and that you were well cared for and looked after. It is always nice to hear words like "Kind" and "Helpful" being used to describe our staff. Thank you for choosing Shockerwick House for your stay.
I can very much recommend Shockerwick House! I am a full time carer for my wife. When I had a 2 week respite care break recently my wife stayed at Shockerwick House. This is the third time she has stayed here. The staff are really friendly and warm. I completely felt she was in caring hands and was able have a break and not worry about her. She had a super room with wonderful views across the valley. She enjoyed the food and felt safe herself and that the staff were available at any time to help if needed. Her room and ensuite bathroom were spotlessly clean and warm. The staff were really helpful to me, sorting out her medication and understanding her needs.
Thank you for your lovely review. It is always nice to hear words like 'friendly' and 'warm' being used to describe our staff and we are pleased to hear that you are impressed with the food, facilities and staff at Shockerwick House. Hopefully, you will go away from this feeling like your loved one received the best possible care.
My parents are in their late nineties, and after a very independent lifestyle, they moved into a fabulous double room at the beginning of this year. They were apprehensive at first but were soon won over by the unfailing kindness and cheerfulness of all the staff. Everyone goes above and beyond and is professional and communicative at all times.
I feel reassured my parents are as happy as they can be, whilst receiving the very best care available in a happy and caring environment where they are always treated with patience and respect.
Thank you for your lovely review. It is always nice to hear from family members feeling like their loved ones are cared for and looked after so well with us. It's wonderful to hear words such as "patience" and "unfailing kindness" being used to describe our care. Thank you for choosing Shockerwick House care home.

Meet the Team (5)

Hello, my name is Dana and I am the home manager at Shockerwick House.
I’m Romanian and worked for many years in the travel industry before I moved to the UK in 2015 and started my career in care.
I initially worked as a health care assistant before moving on to activities co-ordinator and services co-ordinator roles. I worked closely with the home manager and managed most of her non-clinical duties. One year later I was offered the home manager position at another home within the organisation and moved from Bath to Bristol.
I was delighted to join Shockerwick House in 2025 and I am very much looking forward to continuing its legacy with the help my fantastic team.

I have been an RN for over 40 years after completing my training at Musgrove Park Hospital Taunton.
I joined the team at Shockerwick in 2009 and love the professional, friendly, and family atmosphere that we promote here.
In my downtime, I love to spoil my family, especially the grandchildren.

The residents and staff are like family but none of this gets in the way of the professionalism in which we go about our work.
In my spare time I am a keen gardener and love making Jam’s and pickles and when it comes to relaxing there is nothing I enjoy more than a bag of minstrels.

I rejoined the team at Shockerwick House in 2014 as a Senior Carer after 3 years of working as an HCA at the RUH Bath.
Most of my career has been in administrative work but from a young age, I felt that the caring profession was where my heart lay.
Working as a team we provide outstanding care for our residents and there is nothing more satisfying than seeing a smile on their faces.
In my spare time, I love riding my horse and relaxing in the sun.

I have been working in the care sector in different roles since I was 18, only taking a break to have my family.
I joined Shockerwick House in January 2021 as an activities coordinator. While this is my first role totally focused on activities, I have had the same philosophy in all my roles - to make sure I bring happiness, joy and normality to all our residents’ daily lives.
When I’m not working, I love to bake and work on arts and crafts..
