Everybody at Castle View is friendly and helpful. My Auntie is made to feel very welcome/ There is a high standard of care and hygiene. The food is excellent, with my aunties favourite 'fish and chips' on a Friday!

I feel fortunate to be staying at this care home, mainly because I will be 90 years old next month, although I was always happy, since I was 20, to keep house and home, now I feel relieved to let people much younger than me take over. I am truly grateful for that. It's also good to see the woods in
the distance, where I lived happily with my late husband for nearly 40 years.

My father has been staying here for over two and a half years. In this time, he has been well looked after and the staff have been very accommodating to all of his needs. His personal care has been exemplary, with all of the staff showing kind, caring behaviour, they treat you like a member of the family
and nothing is too much. The trips out have really helped to keep things as normal as possible in a very changeable world. Well done!

My father is always very well looked after, he always looks very clean and well presented. His nursing needs have become more complex but we feel that Castle View is able to look after him professionally now and should his condition deteriorate further. That gives us great peace of mind. He is always
treated with patience, compassion and dignity, as are we, and management takes time to listen to and address our concerns. Very happy.

My father entered Castle View just after the first lockdown. From the very first moment, Dad was so well looked after. All the staff are so friendly but also professional. They have staff for every eventuality, carers, nurses, entertainment as well as all support services. It always seems to be very
well organised with a great management team, creating a happy, friendly environment for staff as well as residents. We are so grateful that Dad is there. We cannot imagine a better home for him.

It was necessary for my husband to go into a care home at the start of the covid lockdown. He had a severe stroke in January 2013 and needed two carers four times a day, however, with the difficulties of lockdown the carers could not always come and some evenings I was having to put him to bed on my
own. Castle View was a godsend, we feel so fortunate to have this wonderful place nearby. He is always so well cared for, the many staff all treat him with love and dignity. The home is very well managed and I never worry about him being there.

Our mother has received excellent care and support during her four years at Castle View. The staff are friendly and helpful throughout the home and have been very good at communicating with my brother and me whenever there have been issues or emergencies with Mum's health. We feel that she is in safe
hands with professionals who genuinely care about her well-being - and that's a great comfort to us.

I'm not sure where to start, my elderly friend moved into Castle View about four weeks ago. On arrival she was greeted with professionalism and care, in what was a stressful and emotional time for her. I visit daily and have met most of the staff, who have all introduced themselves. I often find one
or another with my friend when I arrive, checking in and making sure she is safe and comfortable. The home has made sure to meet my friend's needs, physically, emotionally and spiritually, ensuring she is included in activities, and I believe have gone above and beyond to help her settle in. The staff, facilities, menu, activities, room and equipment is absolutely five star. It has eased my worry knowing my friend is being well looked after and cared for in an environment that is clean, warm, friendly and with staff that really do care.

My mum came into Castle View Care Home for a short stay at the end of her life. The care we received was second to none - absolutely outstanding.
We were supported and helped during a very distressing time. Every single member of staff was helpful and cheerful - nothing was too much trouble.
I couldn't

My mother-in-law suffers from lymphodema but had no problems when she entered Castle View. However, on collection after a two-week stay her legs had swollen and were leaking so much so that she could not walk. We had to borrow a wheelchair to get her back to her home. Where we called the district nurse
who came and was appalled at the state of her legs so much so that they came every day for the next 10 days to attend to her. As far as I know, no action was taken by the home apart from using towels. It is significant that after this visit no mention has been made by Castle View of completing a review form unlike when she stayed before. A truly disgusting experience, never to be repeated but will be followed by a formal complaint to CQC.
Reply from Peter Doyle, Operations Manager at Castle ViewThank you for your recent review regarding the care of your mother at Castle View. We are sorry to learn that you felt this occasion was different from her previous positive stays. Your mother came to Castle View with significant nursing needs that were previously managed and supported by the district nurses. The team at Castle View continued this support by providing quality care to your mother. During her two week stay she did not wish to elevate her legs which may have contributed to a decline in the presentation of her wounds. However, your mother did engage well with the dressing and nursing care provided. We operate an open and transparent culture and would have welcomed the opportunity to investigate the concerns further; however, you have declined. The nursing and care team at Castle View are highly regarded by the local GPs and frailty team, who work closely with all partner agencies, including our regulators (CQC) who hold the home in high regard. We are confident in the home’s nursing team and other areas of your review such as cleanliness and safety based on the positive feedback we regularly receive from those involved in the service and through our own quality assurance processes.

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.962)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.962) out of 10 for Castle View is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.987 for Castle View is calculated as follows: ( (224 Excellents x 5) + (3 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 227 Ratings = 4.987
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Castle View is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 57 registered maximum number of service users is 11.4, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
