Excellent care and support for mum and family from both care staff and management.
Despite mum's failing health, every effort is made to include her in daily activities eg craft, music.

I needed respite care for a couple of weeks post operatively. My reception on arrival was warm and friendly. There is an excellent level of staffing, including registered nurses, 24 hours a day. I commented on the level of training that is given to staff because it is clearly very high. I was here
for only 2 weeks until I was confident enough to go home and live alone. I could so easily have stayed longer, because of the professionalism, the kindness, the activities and the facilities. Castle View has helped me enormously and has enabled me to go home with confidence.

I have been very impressed. I stayed for 2 months in February on respite. I have since viewed 2 other homes with a view to long term care. Although these homes were cheaper my heart ruled my head as I feel Castle View is my family.

My aunt was in the care of the staff at Castle View for her last two weeks. The nursing and kindness shown to her, delivered respectfully, was of the highest standard. Thank you to all the staff who looked after her, read to her and administered her afternoon scotch!

Warm and comfortable room with a view of the garden. An en-suite shower would be an improvement.
Managers and staff were always helpful and thoughtful. My needs for pureed food and thickened drinks were met.

Very nice stay. The staff were wonderful, food very good and the service in the dining room was very good. I would be pleased to be a permanent resident when I require it. There was a few minor items that could be improved as I listed in my leaving letter.

Whilst the care, support and friendliness is excellent, the activities do not get the prominence they deserve. Regular trips out, this week to Tyneham Village (Lulworth) with a picnic under the shade of a tree, a priceless experience for residents. Also, the art sessions where even at such an age, the
individual creativity is quite inspiring. Regular quizzes ensuring mental exercise, regular music entertainment all combine to form an overall wonderful experience, well above and beyond the necessities of residential care and support.

I am next of kin to a 99-year-old male who requires nursing care. The perception of the resident is always glowing with compliments, he actually describes the staff from the manager down as his extended family. From the visitor's point of view, it starts with a welcoming smile at reception which permeates
through the entire establishment. All residents look smart and healthy, and above all very happy and content.
It is inevitable that the skills of the nursing staff are put to test from time to time, and when they are, they are never found lacking, like all of the staff, quietly professionally, always available, always patient!

I have lived here since 2006. I am very happy. Everyone at the nursing home is wonderful, very friendly and helpful. I have my hair done regularly and when I was ill, I had my meals delivered from the kitchen. I can only praise all the staff who help and are always there to give you advice and help.

I visit my mother every week and stay for lunch. As I suffer from food allergies my mother checks the menu for flexibility. Both the lady at reception and the kitchen help her with this. It can be a lengthy process and they do it with good grace every week. I am greeted by all the staff on my visit
and often in town as well. It is a great sadness when a parent leaves their home- your family home- but we are all made welcome at Castle View by the manager and her staff.

A lovely home with no unpleasant smells when entering inside. Its almost like a hotel lovely to sit have coffee (lovely self service coffee machine) and a chat to who ever you are visiting. Best home I have ever been in (have visited a few as I helped older people when they were in their own home).
Would recommend this to anyone who can afford it as i'm sure it is expensive. Had lunch a few times like a restaurant, lovely.

My husband was admitted to Castle View at the end of July 2015. He has been welcomed with kindness, care and consideration excellent nursing and doctors when necessary. His room en suite has charming views with large windows. The food is very good and the carers really care for him which is a tremendous
plus. He is now almost 96 years of age and it has been a tremendous relief to know he is now in excellent and caring hands.

I am the main carer for my wife who has just received 7 days Respite Care at Castle View (14/03/16 to 21/03/16.) I visited her twice a day - mornings & evenings. During those visits I always found the members of staff I had contact with to be friendly, warm, caring and helpful to both of us, nothing
was too much trouble for any of them in order to meet my wife's varied needs. If I ever become unable to provide the care my wife needs, I sincerely hope there will be a vacancy for her long term care at Castle View. We do intend on receiving further Respite Care with them when needed, but that would depend on availability of accommodation at the time. My wife is aware of this review and endorses it.

Our first experience of Respite Care was last year with a different service provider and that was less than good - we paid significantly more to receive significantly less care, services and activities as provided by Castle View. My regards and best wishes to all the staff there.

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.962)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.962) out of 10 for Castle View is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.987 for Castle View is calculated as follows: ( (224 Excellents x 5) + (3 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 227 Ratings = 4.987
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Castle View is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 57 registered maximum number of service users is 11.4, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
