My grandmother has been a resident in this care home for the last 4-months.
I can't begin to express how grateful I am towards to manager and all of the staff.

The care and kindness my grandmother and all of the family have received has been faultless.

My mother was admitted to St James' Care home after a period of hospitalisation, following a stroke. I was able to visit her, and she told me how well cared for she was. She had a lovely room with a view which provided plenty of interest for her to watch what was going on outside. The staff were very caring and kept me informed of my mother's progress as appropriate. The home is light and airy and friendly, and the corridors are beautifully clean, wide and bright. Sadly my mother died, but I am comforted by the fact that she was happy and so well looked after at the end of her life.

During the Covid pandemic, the home and staff have worked hard to look after residents and keep family notified.

First of all, I would like to thank the manager and his staff for helping us through this difficult time.
Mum was placed at St James Park over an hour from where we live, and this has been extremely hard for my father to deal with and caused great distress. The4 manager has been wonderful giving both me and my father virtual tours of the home. By seeing where Mum was etc, it has helped to reassure Dad. We have been able to have Zoom calls with Mum, and yesterday, we were able to visit for the first time. Dad was given Covid test on site before visiting Mum, and I was able to watch and support them from outside on the patio. This visit meant so much to my dad, and to see my mum smiling was brilliant for us all. We were able to pass on Mother's day gifts, cards and flowers, and we are already booked in again to visit Mum next week. Mum cannot contribute to this review sadly.

Thank you again to the manager - you made an awful situation much easier, and we are very grateful.

My father has been a resident for quite a few years, now and I have always felt that he has been treated with dignity and compassion. I would not hesitate to recommend St James' to anybody else who may be considering residential/nursing care for a relative.

Under the near-impossible demands on all care homes under Covid, St James' Park works closely with families to maintain communication, dignity and comfort. The leadership is great and people-focused, with a compassionate balance between the needs of staff, residents and family. I wish we were experiencing the home as it would be intended to be experienced outside of the pandemic. It is difficult to rate all areas as access to the premises is not permitted.

When I first visited the home I was very apprehensive but was reassured to find that it was a happy and caring place. Since then my first impressions have been confirmed. The staff are kind compassionate and I know my partner is well cared for. The COVID crisis has been difficult for all but is has been well handled within the home and it has so far remained infection-free. The food could be improved and a larger lift would be a bonus.

My brother moved to St James' Park in August 2019 from another care home. St James' is very nice and the staff are lovely. I love the dining room area which I am sure makes the residents feel very special.

My father is a resident with St James and myself and my family have the highest regard for all the staff who look after dad. He is treated with such care, dignity and respect. My dad has recently had a bereavement and the staff have been amazing with dad and us as a family, treating us with dignity and total respect at such a difficult time. A huge thank you to all.

I was impressed by the beautiful location and wonderful facilities. On meeting the staff of care, medical and housekeeping departments I thought this was the place for my wife. As a daily visitor, I came to know all the staff, wonderful people.

The best decision I ever made.

We have seen some good care homes and some terrible ones. This is a great one. The staff are friendly and easy to get on with. The rooms are nice and clean with nice little touches that make it seem like home, such as little teddy bears in some of the rooms. It's in a quiet location that's out of the way and relaxing. There always seems to be something going on in the way of activities. We never mind taking our relative here even though there are places that are nearer this is worth the trip.

Well what can I say it’s an outstanding Nursing Home with Outstanding Care staff. With an Outstanding Manager.
Food is outstanding all homemade. I have never seen such a well presented home.

They all did an outstanding job looking after my family member even allowing us to stay at the care home. We can’t thank you enough.

Overall Experience

Mum has been in respite for the last week and seems to have enjoyed it. We've had respite at a few care homes in recent years but this has been the most successful. Mum has been able to join in with the activities when she wanted, or stay in her room if she preferred peace and quiet. The food is good quality and the menus certainly looked tempting!

All staff are friendly and helpful, with a good ratio of staff to residents, the premises are clean and tidy. Mum's room looks over the surrounding hills with a tv and a friendly bear sat on her chest of drawers. She's stayed in some barren places, lacking the personal touch having not taken time to make sure a respite room is cosy and equipped. It is a refreshing change to see somewhere that has made an effort - even the curtains and duvet matched. The lounge/dining room are very welcoming and sunny with amazing views.

Thank you to you all for making this a success - looking forward to a return visit in the summer if you have a room!

I have been very comforted by the care and kindness which St James' staff showed to my father in his last days. Although he was only with you a short while the staff were quick to understand him and to reassure him. Many thanks to all.

My mother has received excellent care since she moved to St James Park in February 2017. She's nearly blind, very deaf, immobile and quite difficult at times, but the care team are always extremely patient and very kind to her. The home provides a daily schedule of interesting and varied activities, but because of my mother's physical weaknesses, there are very few activities that she can participate in. However she is always given the opportunity to join in if she wants to.

This month, January 2019, my mother has been very poorly, but thanks to round the clock monitoring and dedicated care from all the wonderful team, she is now very much better. My thanks to everyone.
