All staff are friendly and helpful, with a good ratio of staff to residents, the premises are clean and tidy. Mum's room looks over the surrounding hills with a tv and a friendly bear sat on her chest of drawers. She's stayed in some barren places, lacking the personal touch having not taken time to make sure a respite room is cosy and equipped. It is a refreshing change to see somewhere that has made an effort - even the curtains and duvet matched. The lounge/dining room are very welcoming and sunny with amazing views.
Thank you to you all for making this a success - looking forward to a return visit in the summer if you have a room!
This month, January 2019, my mother has been very poorly, but thanks to round the clock monitoring and dedicated care from all the wonderful team, she is now very much better. My thanks to everyone.
The standard of food is very good, and my father is very pleased with the selection and choice available. Having eaten there myself I can confirm how fresh, tasty and well presented the food is.
There is a wide range of activities offered to the residents which my father enjoys joining in. The only way I could think that the home could improve would be the provision of a minibus which would enable residents to be offered a wider range of activities outside the home.
Thank you for your positive comments, we are glad to hear you are happy with the care we provide to your father. We are hopeful that HC-One will be able to provide us with a minibus in the future as this would enable us to offer a wider range of activities outside the home. At present we can access a wheelchair taxi service but are limited as it can only take 1 Resident at a time.
Thank you for your positive comments about the care and support that you and your aunt received at St James Park. The call bell system did have to be replaced as the old system was no longer fit for purpose. There were teething issues with the new system which have been addressed following feedback from Residents, relatives and staff. Neck pendants are now available for all Residents instead of the wrist bands. All clinical staff continue to carry pagers as before but the new ones vibrate to alert them to a call, rather than the previous pagers which beeped constantly often disturbing other residents when staff were delivering their care. There are also additional wall mounted stations in the corridors and the lounge to alert staff that a Resident is calling for assistance, however, following the feedback, the one in the lounge area has been muted.
I visit Mum most days and it has become obvious to me that the staff, though still working hard to care for residents efficiently and kindly are less settled and under more pressure. I am worried about the consequences of all this on the home and on my mum's care. HC1, what's going on?
Thank you for taking the time to raise your concerns regarding staffing and continuity. As an organisation, we consistently review our staffing policies and staffing levels in relation to our resident's needs and dependency to ensure a high standard is maintained. We continually recruit for qualified nursing staff and also provide a nursing assistance programme to support and develop the skills of our existing colleagues to provide continuity to our residents. Although the skill mix has changed at the home, the staffing ratio remains the same and in the circumstances where we have to use agency staff, we do our best to ensure that we use regular agency staff who know the home and residents which helps with continuity of care.
