Southbourne Beach is located a short walk from the sea front and its excellent beaches, perfect for a refreshing walk or for some fresh sea air. The home attracts residents and their families from all over the wider Dorset area, including Christchurch, Ringwood and the New Forest. The home offers high quality care including both residential and dementia care as well as shorter respite stays. The care home has 104 beds over three floors.

The location of this home is a short drive to Royal Bournemouth Hospital, Bournemouth airport and easy reach of both the Saxon and Sovereign shopping centres. Close to Bournemouth centre, with its eclectic mix of culture and entertainment, road and rail links are excellent for visiting family and friends.

The care home offers a wide range of accommodation options and beautiful, wheelchair-friendly landscaped gardens designed for a gentle stroll or relaxing walk. Sunrise takes care of my Auntie very well. The residence is cosy and the atmosphere very pleasant.


The only thing that I have a complaint about is the food - I was there on a few occasions and the meals do not look appetising at all. On a few occasions, it was very clear that somebody was trying

to economise.

Very reassuring to have such good care for one's relative when one lives far away, as I do. I particularly admire the emphasis on social interaction between residents and encouragement to take part in all manner of activities during the day. Also, I believe the opportunity to go out on trips in the
Sunrise mini-bus is really helpful to broaden the horizons of residents who don't have opportunities to be taken out by friends and relatives. The care and friendliness of all members of staff towards residents is particularly noticeable and welcome.

My situation as regards my Mother is very difficult, as I live in America, and I am her only child, with no close relatives in the UK. She didn’t do well when I tried her in the USA after my father died. I can’t say enough about how helpful and kind the staff are. I am so comfortable with her care
and safety at Sunrise. A couple of times I have called the staff about a concern after speaking with my Mum on the phone and they have immediately checked on her in her room and addressed the concern. It is so reassuring and I have been so pleased and relieved that she is there, and she seems to have settled in well and expresses that she is happy.

Excellent care and support provided to my parents. I really appreciate Sunrise's prompt calls to me when there have been falls or medical attention required. My brothers & sister also share these views. Sunrise Southbourne is a lovely place and all the staff are friendly, approachable and great to talk
with about both my parents' care, wellbeing and me - it really is like an extended family. Thank you Sunrise.

Mum has been a resident of Sunrise at Southbourne for two and a half years now as she is living with Alzheimer's. Eighteen months ago she moved up to the Reminiscence floor, as living a more independent life on the lower floors became too difficult and stressful for her. As soon as she moved upstairs
she relaxed, she seemed so much calmer and far happier. She appears to enjoy all the activities, particularly anything musical. Staff always seem to be working hard to help her maintain her abilities for as long as possible.

Overall experience excellent. Staff excellent - kind, attentive and nothing is too much trouble. Range of activities and entertainment is amazing and very well thought out to cover most interests. Most people seemed very satisfied with the food which was very varied and of good quality. I have thoroughly
enjoyed my stay here and have moved from using a wheelchair to no assistance at all.

Very welcoming when I enter, the staff are extremely helpful and very friendly, lovely atmosphere (wouldn't mind being here myself). I feel all the lady residents have a great time and little chats together, the men have the same opportunities but alas are not so good at joining in - I love all the

I came here after seven days in hospital. Two of my sisters had died in September and December. Sunrise is a wonderful place.
I have a lovely room and bathroom on the ground floor overlooking a patio.
Everyone from managers to carers and cleaners are very kind.
Some staff are local and others are
from other countries.
There is a wonderful chef, I am putting on weight.
I will recommend Sunrise to everyone.

I have only been resident for 2 weeks but am so happy here and am making lots of nice friends. Also, the staff work very hard and do all they can to make you feel at home right from the very beginning, including all knowing your name and greeting you on sight from day 1. The food is excellent as is
the accommodation and the hygiene and there is more than enough to occupy one with a great range of activities, including evenings and minibus trips to beautiful and interesting places 3 times a week. Besides meals, snacks and drinks, hot and cold available 24 hours daily.

I would like to say that all your staff have been so supportive of our situation, with moving Dad into the home with Mum for the end of his life and have done everything to help us in our hour of need and made us feel at ease with Dad dying. We thank them all very much for all the support.

I have worked in the care sector for over 12 years now, joining Southbourne Beach in 2023. My journey in care began as a care assistant, this was a role I truly loved and quickly realised that the care sector was where I was meant to be. My passion for delivering high-quality care developed from my personal experiences of caring for family members and continues to grow, surrounded by compassionate and selfless colleagues. I have been fortunate enough to achieve further training and qualifications, allowing me to progress into managerial positions.


I have lived in the Dorset area for most of my life and I love being part of my local community with our residents and staff. I am incredibly proud to lead a special team at Southbourne Beach, where the needs of our residents are always the number one priority. Outside of my work, I enjoy regular exercise, travelling, sports and always seeking new experiences.

I joined towards the end of 2020 and really enjoy my role here – it is very diversified and no two days are the same. Prior to joining I worked as a Senior Administrator in another nursing home and have a long history of PA and administration work. I really enjoy meeting the residents and their families and getting to know everyone.


On a personal note, I have lived in Christchurch for the past 20 years and continue to do so with my husband and two children. We love walking along the beach and visiting the local cafes for coffee and a naughty treat.

As Dementia Care Manager it is my aim to ensure those living with dementia can live as independently as possible and experience high standards of daily living. I have a great team working alongside me to ensure that we achieve positive changes and continue improving our care delivery.

Job Title: Dining Services Coordinator

I started working here as a Catering Assistant in 2007. Since then I have taken on new tasks and responsibilities which lead to being promoted to the current position of Dining Services Coordinator. I am responsible for all aspects of delivering nutritionally balanced meals, including special diets and dietary needs. It is very rewarding to see residents having a great dining experience, from the meal they have to the service they receive in a restaurant-style dining room. It motivates me and my fantastic team to provide the best possible service for them every day.

Job Title: Lead Concierge

Having studied and worked in performing arts for 15 years in London, I also gained experience in the hospitality industry organising events in Mayfair before moving to Bournemouth to work in sales and team management. For 3 years I worked in domiciliary optical care travelling around care homes on the south coast. This taught me a better understanding in dementia and vulnerable people. I joined the Concierge team in 2013 and worked my way up to lead concierge.


I love my job, the staff and all the characters we here (including the pets). I now look after a team of 7 concierges at Southbourne. Never a dull moment, we are the eyes, ears and heart of the community. The relationships I build with the residents and families are so special and I value listening and trying to solve any request or concerns they may have.
