Castleford staff are excellent. They are friendly and welcoming. The managers door is always open. He and the team keep us updated on the current situation, which really helps, given the fact we are unable to visit.

My husband was admitted to Castleford on 18th May and went into quarantine for 14 days as is standard practice. He was very confused and stressed because he had already been in quarantine for eight weeks in hospital. The manager and his staff have been so good since he was admitted and we can now Face-time my husband and see that he has settled in so well. There are lots of activities for the residents to take part in and we as a family have no hesitation in recommending Castleford House to anyone who wants firstclass care for themselves or their loved ones.

The care is outstanding and the level of assistance, dedication and commitment is first class. The thoughtful suggestions and attention to individual worries is constructive and most helpful. They go that extra mile.

A high standard of care, some excellent staff in all areas. As with everywhere, there is scope for improvement, but there is a continuous and effective effort for continuous improvement. There have been very many changes over the 3 years that my mum has been here. Any issues we have are always taken seriously and acted upon. One area I think still needs some work is the food, which is rather institutional. The meals are prepared well but there is little by way of homely extras, such as a choice of cheeses, breads, any palate stimulants such as pickles, pate, olives, or other little extras. It’s not easy to get ‘special’ extras given unless a relative brings them and offers them. The residents' tastes do change, but there is a narrow range of food for the tastes to change to.

My father moved into Castleford after being in hospital.
We visited a few different nursing homes to get a feel and Castleford stood out. The feel of the place, the beautiful gardens even had chickens walking around. One thing that stood out was the number of people walking around not confined to chairs. The staff were friendly. Dad had Lewy body dementia, he was allowed to walk around. He loved to get involved with the music therapy sessions. Was allowed to dance and sing.
They get families involved where you can eat with your loved one in a lovely dining room with a good choice of food, you can join in with activities.

I would recommend without a doubt Castleford.

Overall I am very happy with Mum's care at Castleford. And the staff do a tremendous job to keep the residents happy and stimulated. Mum seems content and happy at Castleford. Her personal care is good she is always clean and dressed appropriately. The staff are friendly and helpful and treat the residents with respect and dignity. The meals are nutritious and presented well, with thought to residents personal dietary needs. I am impressed with the number of different activities which are on offer weekly which also include seasonal festivals, and also with the staff's efforts to get the residents involved in them, each to their own ability.

The Castleford team have made mum's transition into the home as easy as possible for us. All our requests and concerns have been listened to and although there is inevitably some loss of communication variation in attitude between staff, generally everyone has been enthusiastic in supporting our needs. I've been particularly impressed with the manager's knowledge of what is happening at a person-centred level, on the ground.

Always plenty of staff available. Clean surroundings. Pleasant gardens if only they could get the resident outside in the fresh air more only a few is not enough. Played music is too quiet most are hard of hearing. More care should be taken in dressing in the morning wrong clothes and thermals in the Summer.

Without exception, we have found the whole team ay Castleford communicate very well, they all come across as sincere, polite, supportive and caring. Their response time for emergency care is quite remarkable as it is with more mundane duties alarms etc. Apart from the above mentioned all the staff act in a respectful professional manner. Castleford is certainly going places.

Mum has been with Castleford in Tutshill for a nearly a year. A year ago, I couldn't have imagined feeling as comfortable with her situation and reassured about her care and wellbeing as I do now. I and she are really fortunate to have a member of my family or a friend visit her every day. We have been reassured by the care and professionalism shown every day by the Castleford carers, nursing team and managers. They genuinely care for mum, as they do all their residents. They get the basics right; mum is well fed, sensitively cared for and attended to. I see it in how well mum looks, in how she interacts with each member of the care team, in how settled she seems (on the Facetime clips of her singing) when we are not with her. Alongside the vital basics, Castleford management and carers think of new ways to gently engage and bring variety and flavour to the lives of their residents, I feel mum is in safe hands and would recommend Castleford in Tutshill.

We wanted to take mum out for a Christmas treat so cooked an afternoon tea for her and all the family at a hotel near Castleford. One of the nurses made sure he had all the details and made arrangements for the van to be available and a carer to accompany us. The resident's activity coordinator sent me an email because a friend of mum's from New Zealand had sent her a Christmas card and the activity coordinator wanted to know more about the lady so they could talk to mum about it and return a card. Both staff put extra care into their work.

The staff were exceedingly helpful and considerate to both our needs and our friend with dementia. For me it was particularly difficult as I lived a considerable distance away and could only travel to the home infrequently. All arrangements were put in hand by the manager who was particularly helpful. The staff we spoke to were well informed about my friends needs during the time she was there.

Try to spend 2/3 days (2 1/2 hrs) during week. Beautiful well kept gardens and grounds with adequate seating to sit or walk in gardens. Display of flowers the best I have ever seen. Well kept reception rooms. Plenty of room for residents to walk about if they want to.

I previously worked as a heavy plant operator, a JCB driver, a boarding manager at Lafarge Plasterboard and was then manager at Critchcraft Tiles.

One of my favourite things about my role is seeing people smile after a job is done. I find that this role is different to the other jobs I've had, it's a bit of a challenge for me. I think the ability to learn and fix a variety of tasks, many being quite challenging, is one of my strengths.

I think that one of Castleford House's biggest achievements is getting the overall "Outstanding" CQC rating. When I'm stressed I tend to go clay pigeon shooting or blame the wife (and then buy her some flowers afterwards).

At Castleford there's always help at hand if you need it. Being part of the team allows me to achieve so many things in my role.
