In October 2014 we were told that my Mother needed both nursing and dementia care. We looked at many homes. Some of them were depressing, some not too clean, some were obviously over crowded and in some the staff simply did not give us confidence. After much searching we found Castleford House. What a joy and how different to so many of the others we had seen. Mum had a lovely private room on the ground floor with her own en suite. The interior of the home is pleasant and was always clean and fresh. Gardens are lovely. Castleford has - in my opinion - an excellent team of nursing staff, carers, domestic and maintenance staff. All friendly and helpful. Sometimes they took Mum on trips in their bus. She particularly liked going to the seaside. Mum always looked clean and tidy and we were confident that she received the very best of care during her time there and that she was safe. Mum was there for 16 months before she passed away.

I would like to thank all of the staff at Castleford so much for the help and support to all of our family and the fantastic care that they take of my mum. She is always clean & tidy as well as her room being immaculate whenever any of us call in to see mum, which is always on spec and never prearranged. We have struggled with mum's diagnosis and illness as a family but we all know that she is safe, well and feels comfortable an cared for.

I can't thank the management and team enough for what they do on a daily basis!

My Mum has been living at Castleford for 6 years during which time her condition has deteriorated considerably (as expected) even thought she is quite young. The staff at Castleford have always taken fantastic care of her even when she has been a little uncooperative. Whenever I come to visit, Mum is clean and tidy and her room and bed are always spotless. Mum used to like to wander about a lot and the staff were always very accommodating of this even though I'm sure it made things a bit more tricky for them. They would allow her to sit with them and even help with things if she wanted to. All her medical needs have been taken care of and Mum is shown a lot of affection and care. The team members don't change often which is very helpful for someone with Alzheimer's who gets easily confused. I have every confidence that when anything happens to Mum (she has a slight fall or doesn't fell well) somebody will let me know straight away. The very distressing situation of Mum's illness has been made very much better by knowing that she is getting the best possible care. I am always made to feel very welcome when I come to visit and the team have always been very kind to us as a family. I can't recommend the Manager and her team highly enough.

I previously worked as a heavy plant operator, a JCB driver, a boarding manager at Lafarge Plasterboard and was then manager at Critchcraft Tiles.

One of my favourite things about my role is seeing people smile after a job is done. I find that this role is different to the other jobs I've had, it's a bit of a challenge for me. I think the ability to learn and fix a variety of tasks, many being quite challenging, is one of my strengths.

I think that one of Castleford House's biggest achievements is getting the overall "Outstanding" CQC rating. When I'm stressed I tend to go clay pigeon shooting or blame the wife (and then buy her some flowers afterwards).

At Castleford there's always help at hand if you need it. Being part of the team allows me to achieve so many things in my role.
