I have no hesitation in recommending this care home to anyone who is looking for a home for a loved one. My godmother had previously been in a care home in the East Midlands for 3 years. It had good reviews but Castleford is a world apart in terms of kindness, care, good management and joy.

It is a wonderful place to visit and to know that your loved one is so well cared for.

Due to her rapid decline in dementia, Castleford House arranged for Mum's transfer from her previous residential care home.
They have been kind and helpful during a deeply stressful period. We have been deeply impressed with the knowledge all members of staff seem to have about residents on a day to day basis and how they communicate that to us.

It is very reassuring and we are grateful.

Castleford House has recently been redecorated internally, giving it a bright, fresh look.
The staff respect the residents' dignity, treating them with kindness and patience.
The meals are nutritious and well presented.

Management willingly provide updates on the well being of the resident, on request from their family members living far away, for which we are very grateful!

My father has been at Castleford House for eighteen months and the staff there are always caring, helpful and supportive. We do no visit dad on a specific day or time, however, when we arrive each time he is still receiving the same care and attention so we know he is being given the same level of care 24 hours a day. Castleford House organises various activities indoors and outside during the years. We have attended this year a dog show, the Summer Fate and we are looking forward to the Halloween/Bonfire night in November. They have taken him out on numerous trips to the park for tea and cakes and even the seaside. We would confidentially recommend Castleford, it's staff and management.

Thank you very much for the kind words. It is a pleasure to look after dad.

Would like to see more activity rather than people sitting in chairs all day. Exercise is essential especially people with dementia. A physio department is needed. There seems to be only one at hospital. Castleford is a great place. Staff very kind and caring. Very professional.

Reply from Ben Miller, Manager at Castleford House

Thank you for your kind words. Physiotherapy is accessed via the local NHS hospital or privately, though it would definitely be an asset if we could obtain the services of a physio in the future.

Dad has been at Castleford for over a year.

He is happy (as much as we can tell), he is always dressed smart, clean and comfortable. We visit often even if we find the visits hard. Staff are always on hand to help.

My husband is looked after very well. He is always in a lot of pain and can have extra morphine on a bad day. This is not always noticed by staff that he is in more pain. The staff are very kind though. He can go to the toilet himself but not clean himself properly so I find him with horrid dirty nails and sometimes poo on his hands. I don't know what can be done as they don't always know when he has been.

Mum has been cared for at Castleford House for four years. She has been well looked after and staff have been kind to her. Home is kept clean and tidy and we are made welcome when visiting Mum. Sometimes I feel it is a little understaffed so can get very busy then but on the whole, it's all good. I think mum gets a bit bored at times as she is still alert although wheelchair bound. But the activities lady is very good and does her best for the residents.

The care my mother received whilst at Castleford was always of a very high standard. The week leading up to her death was above and beyond the normal. The staff were excellent to all the family and treated us with compassion, whilst still retaining their professionalism and this made the situation more bearable. Mum was treated with dignity right until her last breath and we will be eternally grateful.

My mother has been in the care home for approximately 3 years. She has always received excellent care and has been happy and content in the environment. The staff work so hard and are always friendly, approachable and helpful. They are so dedicated and caring and make life so much better for the residents. As far as I am concerned, my mother could not be in a better place at this moment in time.

Overall, very happy with the care provided. Feel investment in reclining chairs would be an improvement on the current easy chairs, which do no provide enough head and neck support.

Grounds and environment were excellent. staff very friendly, nothing is too much trouble. Engaged with my husband a lot, didn't seem unhappy. Staff a little careless on how my husband was handled, bad cut on back of hand. Electric shaver went missing but the manager paid me for that straight away with apologies.

All in all, we were most happy with my husband's care. Perhaps if nit picking I would say a little more entertainment interaction.

Just thought I would do an update on my previous review which was over two years ago. I am pleased to report that my 94 year old Mother is still happily receiving such good care at Castleford. Indeed she hardly seems to have deteriorated much at all. She is happy and very well cared for and we are so grateful to the staff as it has been such an emotional journey as she suffers from vascular dementia. I cannot recommend them highly enough or thank them enough for looking after my mother so well.

I previously worked as a heavy plant operator, a JCB driver, a boarding manager at Lafarge Plasterboard and was then manager at Critchcraft Tiles.

One of my favourite things about my role is seeing people smile after a job is done. I find that this role is different to the other jobs I've had, it's a bit of a challenge for me. I think the ability to learn and fix a variety of tasks, many being quite challenging, is one of my strengths.

I think that one of Castleford House's biggest achievements is getting the overall "Outstanding" CQC rating. When I'm stressed I tend to go clay pigeon shooting or blame the wife (and then buy her some flowers afterwards).

At Castleford there's always help at hand if you need it. Being part of the team allows me to achieve so many things in my role.
