My husband was on Cedar as an end of life resident and the care and kindness he received could not have been bettered. He felt safe, secure and cared for until he sadly passed away in June. I could not have wished for him to be in a better place where I was able to spend every day with him and get to know the caring and friendly staff. They took the time to ensure I was alright as well. Thank you to all at Calway House for this precious time.
Kind regards,
Calway House
I found the staff to be the most kind and thoughtful people, they always took the best care of my mother, always helpful, happy, cheerful, nothing was ever too much trouble. They are polite genuine caring people. I can't think of anything else to say because I was totally happy. I would recommend Calway House to anyone!
Kind regards,
Calway House
Mum went to Calway House for a period of respite care after being in hospital. Mum was on Laurel, she settled in well and had a lovely room, everyone made her feel welcome. After a few weeks Mum said she felt very safe and well cared for and she would like to stay at Calway House. We were very happy to support her decision knowing that she was receiving the best possible care and support from a wonderful team who were so kind and caring. Mum loved getting her hair and nails done, joined in some of the activities and enjoyed being able to go out into the garden in the summer. When Mum became unwell and didn't want to go into hospital the staff supported her through her final few days with such kindness, care and compassion. They really were wonderful to her and to us during this very difficult time. We are so grateful that Mum had almost a year at Calway House where we spent many happy times, drinking tea, chatting and enjoying being together without any worry.
Thank you for taking the time to share such a heartfelt review for Calway House. It was our pleasure and privilege to care for your dear Mum, and to support her family, during her final precious chapter. We were glad to support her choices and wishes for the things that mattered most to her, and...
My sister and I were both very unsure about where to place my mother (visited 3 care homes), but had visited a resident who was a friend of my mother at Calway and was recommended to us by a friend. Staff soon had us at ease and were very helpful during the process and we were soon sure we had chosen well. Of course, we had to use my mothers savings and proceeds of her house sale to self fund, but we were adamant we wanted her to be safe and comfortable. Over 2.5 years, we had very few issues to raise, mum was very happy here. Management and staff were so kind and helpful and did all that we'd have wanted in ensuring mum stay was to all our wishes. Right up until mum passed away, we cannot thank them enough for all they did to ensure mum (and us) were very happy. Thank you
Kind regards,
Calway House
The staff are so welcoming, from arrival to the care of our family friend. They are respectful of her, care for her needs & are all so friendly. The food looks wholesome & delicious with consideration of the menus. My friends room is clean & homely. The overall atmosphere of the home is warm & friendly, light, airy & clean. It feels very like being at home.
Kind regards,
Calway House
I am an occasional visitor to Calway House over a short period since my neighbour/friend has been admitted. Hence my limited knowledge of some of the ratings are not relevant (i.e. Value for Money) Overall I have been impressed with the standard of care provided from very pleasant, helpful staff who are genuinely caring for patients. Standard of cleanliness appears high and it seems to me to be a very happy place.
Best regards,
Calway House
We are very happy with the care and attention Maudie receives. Especially the activities staff who are exceptional.

I am exceptionally pleased with the care and compassion all the staff at Calway House have shown in helping my Mum settle in. The staff are friendly, caring & patient. As my Mum has dementia it is such a relief to know she is safe, well fed and cared for. The activities provided every day are a real bonus and have played a massive part in settling my Mum in. Calway House is spotlessly clean every time I visit. All the staff are most welcoming and available to chat to no matter what time of day you arrive. I have no hesitation in recommending Calway House.
Dear Lindsey, thank you for taking the time to share your wonderful feedback for Calway House in Taunton. We understand that moving into a new environment can be unsettling, especially for those living with dementia. We are glad to be able to support your Mum to feel safe and comfortable, and to...
The staff have been amazing and very attentive. They organised Christmas Lunch for Mum and I in one of their lounges. It was lovely.
The staff had organised gifts for all of the residents, and lots of thought had gone into it. Mum received a new pair of comfortable shoes which was a hit.
Kind regards,
Calway House
I've just joined day care service at Calway. I attend on a weekly basis, every Wednesday. I have felt very welcomed. Both staff and residents are very friendly. In addition, the planned activities are enjoyable and fun. The food at lunchtime has been excellent. I hope this service continues.
Kind regards,
Calway House
A friend of mine is also currently at Calway House and is always happy, well cared for and settled. All staff seem genuinely fond of her and spend time with her. I always find the atmosphere calm and caring.

My stepmum went into Calway House, Spruce, in January 2023 as she could no longer care for herself, she had beginnings of dementia and her mobility was poor. The staff were very caring and mum made lots of friends, everyone seems to know her. Earlier this month, due to her extremely poor mobility and progressing dementia, she had a fall and fractured her knee ending up in a plaster cast. She spent 5 days in hospital which accelerated her dementia/confusion however she had a lovely welcome back to Calway House by all the staff, although she is now in Nursing Care. She has a lovely room overlooking the garden, and although it is taking her time to get used to a different room, the care has been wonderful. We know she is safe and well looked after in their care. Rooms and premises are always clean and tidy. We are kept up to date if any problems arise or changes in medication or her care.
Thank you for your kind words about the care your Stepmum receives at Calway House in Taunton. It is a privilege to care for her, and we are touched by your feedback. We understand that the progression of dementia affects not only the individual, but their loved ones as well, so we do all we can to...
Very happy with the care mum is receiving at Calway House. Mum has settled in well. The staff are very caring towards mum, always kind and patient. We are welcomed when we visit and staff happy to answer any questions or discuss any issues. The home is always clean and well maintained. The outdoor space is a real bonus and mum loves sitting in the garden. They are very receptive to suggestions. I recently commented to the manager that the main door was difficult to navigate with mum in her wheelchair due to a slightly raised threshold. The manager came to look at it with me and said she would request an opinion from their maintenance team. Within about 4 weeks, the threshold now has a small ramp on it which makes wheeling the wheel chair over so much easier and more comfortable for mum. Thank you for listening and taking action.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review for Calway House. We are so pleased that you are happy with the care your Mum receives, and are glad that we were able to act upon your excellent suggestion to make it easier for her to get out and about. We are always open to ideas to further improve...
My first experience of Calway House was for my father in 2020. He was elderly and admitted after a hospital stay. He recovered so well at Calway that he was able to transfer to residential. He died in 2020 - only of old age. His care at Calway was outstanding. Currently, my Aunt is in Calway House. She was very ill upon arrival and was only expected to live for two months. Her recovery has been dramatic. This is due to the care and kindness of all the staff. We as a family cannot thank everyone enough.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback for Calway House. It was a privilege to care for your dear Dad, and we are glad to be able to support your family once again in caring for your Aunt. We will share your kind words with the rest of the team. Best regards,Calway House
Perceptive & supportive response from very first enquiry for 2 older people for whom managing daily life at home, one caring for the other, had become too challenging. Refreshing 'want to help' attitude in a broader overstretched social care environment. More than once have felt relief that what I thought might present a hurdle has felt so easy. Thorough assessment, efficient admission processes, clear communication throughout. Felt able to trust the obvious skill of nursing, and activities staff from day one. Warm and welcoming ethos seen from staff in all roles. More commendable in light of how demanding this work is, and the challenges presented during settling in period. Thoughtfulness demonstrated in so many ways. Thank you
Dear Maggie, thank you so much for taking the time to leave your 5-star review for Calway House in Taunton. We are so pleased that we were able to smooth the transition into care for your two friends, and in doing so, also provide some reassurance for yourself. Your kind words mean a lot to us. Please take care.
We are incredibly grateful for the support we have received and every staff member is brilliant. I would also mention that the care home manager clearly cares a great deal about her residents.
many thanks for your kind words and 5-star review for Calway House. We are so pleased to read that your mother feels safe and supported in our care, and that her family continue to feel involved and included in her day-to-day life. Providing tailored care which enables families to stay connected is what we strive for. We look forward to welcoming you back for your next visit.
Exactly the care we wanted showing kindness and compassion
Thank you for your lovely feedback. We're pleased to hear that we've been able to provide the care you were hoping for, with kindness and compassion at the heart of everything we do.
On her release from hospital, she was really quite unwell and had lost a considerable amount of weight. She was assessed comprehensively by the care home in the hospital so her care could be tailored to her needs on arrival.
I have visited her 2-3 times a week during her time at Calway and have always been impressed by the welcome from all staff members and the care of residents I have seen. All staff seem to do a variety of jobs and just work together to make sure things are done, this includes admin and management who interact and mix with residents. The food is a good standard and always presented well, with residents being encouraged to eat together as a shared experience. Twelve weeks after leaving the hospital my mum is now well enough to try moving home.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback for Calway House. We are delighted that you would rate your mother's respite stay with us as 5-star and are so pleased to have been able to support her recovery. May we wish you, your mother, and your family all the very best for the future.
December 2023 both my parents came into your care as they could no longer live independently! Dad was transferred to the dementia unit in April 2024, whick was more catering for him. Mum and dad met up most meal times which was lovely. All care staff friendly and helpful. Mum passed away in July 2024 and dad January 2025. My brother and I have been very happy with the care given. Regular updates monthly and call if any problems, e.g falls, changes of medication. Rooms always clean and tidy and so were the premises.
Thank you for leaving a review for Calway House, but most importantly, thank you so much for entrusting your mum and dad into our care. It means a lot to us that they both made their home with us, and were able to remain together for as long as possible. Sending you our very best wishes at this sad time. Best regards, Somerset Care.
