Calway House has a strong community reputation for residential care and, since opening, has been rebuilt as a larger, modern home in order to support more people.

Care workers support an active lifestyle and clients are welcome to personalise their surroundings. Residential rooms are arranged in groups of 15, with each group having access to its own living and dining areas.

Staff keep up-to-date with each individual's care needs and are trained in dementia care, for which there is a dedicated 'Petals' dementia care suite. The home has also achieved Platinum status under the Gold Standard Framework for palliative care (2017).

Mum has been a resident of Calway House Care Home for four years. She loved her room and when she contracted Covid and had to move from Spruce to Laurel, which has more nursing care, the staff again were so good and kind in helping her with the move and settling in. I cannot praise the whole team at
Calway enough, the staff always encouraged Mum to join in activities and when it came to end-of-life care, not only were they so caring and kind to Mum, they were a huge support to me. I would highly recommend Calway for the care given and the wonderful staff, I will miss them all.

Our mother went into Sycamore wing about a year ago as her dementia advanced and her care needs accelerated. We needed somewhere safe, caring and secure (as she had managed to escape from a previous care home and was found by a member of the public wandering along a busy road).
My experience of Calway
House Care Home was a good one. Mum's room was clean, airy and light and opened onto an enclosed garden. Whenever I visited, usually unannounced, the staff were always welcoming and never intrusive. Mum always appeared well cared for and was obviously happy there, particularly within the care of Sycamore. Unfortunately, two falls after she ended up in hospital. We were however able to get her home for end-of-life care in December. The staff on Maple gave me a room for two nights so that I could join my family as we gathered around Mum's bed as her struggle with dementia ended. Many staff came to say goodbye to Mum, many of whom obviously had a real affection for her. Thank you Calway.

As soon as you walked in the door there was a welcome by the staff. Carers were very caring and approachable. Senior staff kept you informed of any problems. The activities team arranged daily a wide range for everyone to join in. End-of-life care was performed with dignity and by very caring staff
who made mum comfortable and sat with her when no one was visiting. Would recommend Calway for the care given and pleasant staff.

Following the unexpected death of my mother, I had to rapidly find suitable dementia care home for Dad. Calway House staff proved excellent in sensitively assessing Dad's needs and ensuring efficient and swift admission to the home. Dad's dementia means he cannot easily suggest or request what he would
like to do and never has any recall of what he has done. The staff have gently tuned into Dad's interests and abilities and engaged him in a wide range of enrichment activities. He is happy at Calway House, and his entire bearing and demeanour exhibit the high quality of care he is receiving. I am delighted with Calway House.

My partner's Mum was admitted to Calway House from hospital for rehab care. The care staff have been very supportive to both my partner and her Mum ensuring she had all her needs addressed and she remained comfortable in her last few days. In addition, my partner was supported and cared for throughout
her mum's stay (to the end and beyond).
I would like to express my heartfelt thanks for the help and support given throughout her stay. It was very much appreciated. Special thanks to all staff in Sycamore.

When I could no longer cope with dads needs I started looking for a care home, luckily I was given the name and number of Calway House by a friend. Calway staff helped dad and me through the last chapter of dads life. Calway staff went above and beyond to help us even at the sad end of dads life the
staff on Maple wing were kind professional and above all personal, they made dads last days feel like he was surrounded by friendship and care and gave dad the dignity everyone of us would like to have at the end of our lives. Thank you, Calway.

My mother and father went into Calway House Care Home in July 2019. They were given two adjacent rooms - a sitting room and a bedroom. My father passed away in May 2020 and Mum remained at Calway House until she passed on 14.06.2022. The staff went above and beyond to ensure their comfort and well-being
at all times. My sister and myself were given access to a room to allow us to be close to Mum for five days prior to her death. Words cannot express how grateful we are for this.

My mother has stayed at several homes over the years as her dementia progressed and Calway House Care Home has without a doubt been the best. It has been a great comfort to know that she was in such good care. I also appreciated the phone calls from Calway House to inform me of any change in her condition

My brother-in-law first came to Calway House Care Home spending a day a week in the day centre, which he really enjoyed and gave my sister a break. He then had weekly respite and finally became a permanent resident. It was distressing to see such a clever man's deterioration but he was always treated
with respect and care. He felt secure and was well looked after. The management staff went out of their way to help us. They were so sensitive and never made us feel that we were a trouble. Thank you everyone - we will miss you.

I have not had a moment's worry since Dad has been in Calway House Care Home (two years ago). He is looked after with genuine love and deep care. His needs are carefully considered and every effort is made to meet them. The food is consistently very good indeed and he says it is 'just like home''. (Mum
was an excellent cook!). The nursing side is monitored and I am always confident that Dad has the best of medical care. Attention to detail in all the important areas is well attended to.

My father went to Calway House in April 2021 suffering from severe dementia. Throughout his stay there the staff have been exceptional. The level of care provided to their residents is outstanding. Every time I visited, the residents were enjoying time in the communal areas along with the staff, rather
than being stuck in their rooms. Sadly my father passed away a few weeks ago. The way the staff handled this was with the utmost dignity and respect. I will forever be grateful to them for the care and kindness they showed him during his final months, weeks, days, and hours. Knowing he was being so well looked after was a great comfort during an extremely difficult time. I cannot recommend this care home enough.

I did not want my husband to go into a care home but eventually, he was not safe at home. I cannot praise the staff and managers of Calway House Care Home enough.
At all times we were both treated with care, love, understanding and respect during difficult times including Covid.
If I have to go into
care I hope it is somewhere like Calway.

We moved our mother to Calway House Care Home back in October. She has settled in remarkably well due, in no small part, to the professional care and attention of the amazing staff. All the anxiety that she experienced at her previous care home has simply not reoccured at Calway House.

I like to think of Calway House as being like a little village community. Every resident is a valued member of our community and every resident milestone is a collective cause for celebration. Whether it’s a 99th birthday, Mother’s Day or Christmas, we mark every special occasion together.


I absolutely love working in care – and I’ve often said that I will never retire from this job, I will just move in to Calway House as a resident!


This role has given me the opportunity to make a real difference – I can ensure that all of our residents have a brilliant quality of life, and support and motivate the staff to create a really happy home for those in our care. Old certainly doesn’t mean past it, and pandemic or no pandemic, I get to help Calway House residents live their lives to the full.
