The care home is one of the best in Taunton for providing care and compassion to all its residents. The staff work very hard to maintain a warm and friendly atmosphere, and carrying out the required care for its most vulnerable residents.

A good home with dedicated staff. Mr friends hearing and sight are not good so he finds communication difficult which leads to frustration.

My mother has been a resident now for the past two months.
She is well cared for in a very clean and pleasant environment.
Her room is large with lots of light and direct access to the garden area.

The staff are friendly and always helpful.

We haven't seen this home that often because we live in South Wales. My cousin is so happy in there, she did not want to go into a care home but she is so happy and contented, everything we see is done in such a professional way.

My sister was in Calway House just short of three and a half years. She received loving care and attention right up to her passing when she had a nurse/carer on either side of her bed.

While reception area, lounges, dining rooms have all been redecorated, attention should be focussed on re-decorating of residents room as and when they become vacant.

I have been very impressed by Calway House and the care I have observed.
The surroundings are lovely, a nice communal garden, pleasant private bedrooms with great facilities and a team of carers and nurses delivering excellent person-centred care.

The residents appear very well supported and taken care of in all respects.

Calway House is well run by the manager. As with all care homes, more staff would help. It would also be better if staff spent a little more time chatting with residents instead of form filling on the computer. The staff now look very unprofessional not in uniform and hard to recognise for residents. Car parking is an issue and rooms need repainting, especially as the new block shows them up!

Most importantly staff are kind and thoughtful. The dignity of residents is considered at all times. Special activities are consistently on offer for dementia patients if appropriate and their interests and abilities are properly taken into account. Food is good, with efforts made to provide favourite items and drinking is well monitored. Staff try to provide a homely atmosphere and encourage residents to input and offer an opinion.

My mother has resided at Calway House for 3 1/2 years (residential care). Over Christmas, her health deteriorated quickly and dramatically. The staff were kind and supportive, making the transition to nursing seamless. They looked after the whole family in a kindly, professional manner which was greatly appreciated.

Sue Harvey
Sue HarveyJob Title:Registered Manager

I like to think of Calway House as being like a little village community. Every resident is a valued member of our community and every resident milestone is a collective cause for celebration. Whether it’s a 99th birthday, Mother’s Day or Christmas, we mark every special occasion together.

I absolutely love working in care – and I’ve often said that I will never retire from this job, I will just move in to Calway House as a resident!

This role has given me the opportunity to make a real difference – I can ensure that all of our residents have a brilliant quality of life, and support and motivate the staff to create a really happy home for those in our care. Old certainly doesn’t mean past it, and pandemic or no pandemic, I get to help Calway House residents live their lives to the full.
