Calway House has a strong community reputation for residential care and, since opening, has been rebuilt as a larger, modern home in order to support more people.

Care workers support an active lifestyle and clients are welcome to personalise their surroundings. Residential rooms are arranged in groups of 15, with each group having access to its own living and dining areas.

Staff keep up-to-date with each individual's care needs and are trained in dementia care, for which there is a dedicated 'Petals' dementia care suite. The home has also achieved Platinum status under the Gold Standard Framework for palliative care (2017).

After visiting a few care/nursing homes I can honestly hand on heart say this is the best.
The cleanliness is outstanding. It's like a five-star hotel. Modern lounge, spacious rooms. Great helpful and friendly staff. Always smiling. The best.

My wife came into Calway House on the 24 March, I first visited her on the 26 March, where I was instantly struck how well she responded to the staff and they to her. The whole of the time she was here, the staff gave out an amazing amount of empathy and care. It seemed to me, their professionalism
was tempered by humanity, caring and respect. For all of this, I will be extremely grateful.

My wife was admitted into Calway House on the 24th of March for approx 4-weeks. I was impressed with many aspects of Calway from the quality of the room to the sensitive way and the professional manner the staff responded to me, but especially my wife.

The home has been refurbished and is clean, modern and attractive. On the whole, the staff are very polite, considerate and helpful. The food is good quality and appealing and includes occasional complimentary wine. Visiting, technology and maintenance are well-managed and efficient. It seems a little
understaffed, and there don't appear to be activities going on, although this may be because it is a nursing wing and group activities are hard to establish. More personal entertainment would be good as my mum hasn't been engaged in any activities.

We were very happy with the care that our relative received especially towards the end of life. She was well cared for and loved by the whole team.
We were very grateful for the extra mile the team went over the last few months during the lockdown. They did their best to give us access via Skype and

During my mother's time at Calway before her death, she was always treated with care and dignity by all. The staff were always helpful to us as relatives and always took the time to help us and answer our many questions. Even under pressure and stress both my mother and our family were always treated
respectfully by the staff. Thank you Calway staff for being there when we needed you.

A good experience under difficult conditions.
I liked the early settle time of 6 pm.
Most personal attention was good - better than others.
I was not especially affected by the lockdown period so did not worry me really.
I did manage to sleep very well, this was a big plus for me.
Some of the
food (mostly lunchtime) was excellent, some very nice. The facilities in the home were very good.
No desk to write at - just as well, I think!

I moved into Calway House on 15/01/2019 - the best that my daughter could find. Found it to be good as it has been mostly all the time. Through the virus problems during April, it has kept given the best service it has been possible to give. The carers do the best they can, and I know they are smiling
even if I cannot see them!

I came to Calway House after treatment in hospital. I am alone most of the time but I am used to that. The staff is friendly and efficient at what they do. Calls for assistance are sometimes not answered very quickly but I suppose being busy I should expect that. Generally, there is not much room for
complaint.

I am so glad I chose Calway House to care for my elderly friend for whom I am appointee and next of kin. The staff are very helpful and caring and treat the residents with dignity and respect. The facilities and activities are excellent and my friend has blossomed since living there as her physical

My wife went into Calway House this month and we were only able to see her once before it was closed, due to the present virus problem. She was given a nice room in the dementia wing and we were made most welcome by all the staff. Since the shut down we had messages and photos sent by the staff to keep
us informed and she looks very happy there and we could not wish for a better place for her to be.

Job Title: Registered Manager

I like to think of Calway House as being like a little village community. Every resident is a valued member of our community and every resident milestone is a collective cause for celebration. Whether it’s a 99th birthday, Mother’s Day or Christmas, we mark every special occasion together.


I absolutely love working in care – and I’ve often said that I will never retire from this job, I will just move in to Calway House as a resident!


This role has given me the opportunity to make a real difference – I can ensure that all of our residents have a brilliant quality of life, and support and motivate the staff to create a really happy home for those in our care. Old certainly doesn’t mean past it, and pandemic or no pandemic, I get to help Calway House residents live their lives to the full.
