My grandfather was in desperate need of some respite/care due to my grandmother having passed away earlier in the year, which has resulted in him becoming mildly depressed and very lonely. At the age of 96, he was very reluctant but agreed to stay at Fitzwarren House for two weeks. All of the staff went out of their way to make him feel "at home", and the difference we have seen in him is unbelievable. He loves the staff and residents so much; he has decided to stay!

My father (aged almost 93) has been a resident at Fitzwarren House since early October 2020. Previously my father-in-law had spent about six months as a resident before he sadly passed away in August 2016. I could not be happier or more impressed with everything at Fizwarren House, the level of care and attention my dad receives is truly exceptional and it is good to see him in such good shape and very comfortable. In my opinion, Fitzwarren House is expertly run and superbly managed with all nursing and care staff very professional and providing such a high level of care, comfort and security. If it were possible to rate them 11 out of 10, I would be happy to do it!

All staff are extremely caring and helpful, excellent quality of care and very friendly and welcoming to my great gramp who, at ninety six was very stubborn to accept any form of help or care. Since losing my great nan in January, it’s become apparent to us that he is very lonely at home and although convincing him to go in for respite was a challenge, when he agreed we felt relieved and it has proven the best thing for him. The nurses and chaplain have spent so much time with him to help him settle in and feel comfortable. My family and I are incredibly grateful that he is being looked after so well. Although we feel his memory is now starting to deteriorate, he is still particular about many things including food and lifestyle preferences but he has been listened to and his care is adapted to his specific needs. Many thanks to the whole team at Fitzwarren House.

Calm and tranquil setting. Wonderful, caring, attentive and supportive staff. Nothing was ever too much trouble and we were kept informed throughout our late mother's time there. Allowed us access on visits in a professional and safe manner. Highly recommend it as you know you have left your loved ones in safe hands.

Mum came to live in the home with a broken leg and other medical needs. The staff were very welcoming from the minute she arrived. They cared for her as if she was part of their family.
The activities to keep residents active are excellent and varied. Mum particularly enjoyed the music therapy and community worship.
The staff always remembered special occasions and celebrated with the residents.

Thank you to all the staff for the excellent care and love you showed.

The staff at Fitzwarren House are all very friendly and so very caring. My husband has been at Fitzwarren House for over 4-years, and in all that time, he did not have a single bedsore, such as the care he received. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff.

The nursing care and general care my mother received was outstanding. She was a difficult person with complex needs, but the staff never faltered. They were patient, kind and knowledgable. I cannot find any criticism in the staff or services provided at Fitzwarren House.

Sadly my mum passed away on Thursday 5th December at the age of almost 95, after receiving almost eight years of exceptional nursing care and day to day caring from wonderful staff. I cannot speak highly enough of the dignified care Mum received, maintaining her privacy at all times. Unfortunately, I wasn’t with Mum at the end of her life as I am with my daughter in New Zealand but I am so grateful for the end of life care she received. Huge thanks to the nursing staff and carers and everyone else who plays a part in making Fitzwarren House at the top of the league.

Whilst visiting, a resident's family were leaving and would next see 'Mum' at Christmas. The family left and the resident wanted to wave goodbye. A member of staff took the resident to the reception area where the resident enthusiastically waved goodbye and the family left with big smiles on their faces as they drove off. It can be really hard to leave your loved one behind but this member of staff provided a really magical moment for everyone which was so lovely to see.

The carers are amazing, so dedicated. Nursing care is mostly excellent. The Chaplain is simply wonderful. The Manager is lacking - forget it if you require assistance with acquiring funding; as long as fees are paid she doesn’t care whether families receive the funding that should be awarded.

Reply from Susan Smith, Home Manager at Fitzwarren House

Thank you for your review of our service. It is good to know how valued our nurses, carers and chaplain are. We are disappointed to note your concerns regarding funding. However, we are aware that this has been handled and responded to at the most senior management level in the organisation.

All the staff could not have been kinder, more supportive and more professional in their care of my mum and of my family as she passed on. She had spent two very happy years at Fitzwarren, for which we will be very grateful. We didn't expect those last years to be so full of fun and laughter and smiles as dementia really took its grip.

I couldn't recommend Fitzwarren highly enough.

My wife and I first visited Fitzwarren House on our own and were very impressed with how bright and uncluttered it was and the space in shared areas and in the bedrooms. They were able to reassure us that my mum who had dementia, would be well looked after. Our next visit was with my mum and we were again impressed by how they included her in all the decisions. Mum moved in a week later in Mar 19. Unfortunately, my mum's health deteriorated rapidly and in May she was diagnosed with Bowel cancer. By then she was very frail and as a family, we decided she should not have invasive surgery but palliative care. When we met with staff to discuss a care plan and going forward it was very reassuring that they could care for mum until the end. As mum's health declines we have spent more time with her at Fitzwarren and have seen for ourselves how caring all the staff are. They have endless patience with residents and always greet you with a smile.

Mum moved to Fitzwarren after 2 broken legs and care in the home was no longer enough. Recommended by a friend, mum moved into the home and was cared for excellently throughout this time. Mum was often a difficult character and therefore caring for her was testing but Fitzwarren House and its staff were truly amazing at all times. Fitzwarren House gives our family reassurance and trust that mum was safe and loved.

I visited more than ten nursing homes in the surrounding/extended area to care for my mother in law. Fitzwarren House was head and shoulders above all others. Residents were cared for, the home environment was homely, staff were very attentive without being overbearing. It is a truly wonderful home, a benchmark for this area.

Our friend was given a room at extremely short notice on 24th December 2018. Having had a fall at home, resulting in a night in hospital, he was released on 23rd December. Being clearly incapable by then of looking after himself and with no immediate family, he needed immediate care. Fitzwarren House demonstrated that there was "Room at the Inn" when someone needed it most. During his 8 days stay there he received excellent care form all the staff who were very friendly, helpful and totally professional. He would have remained there, but a fall on New Year's Day resulted in him being rushed to hospital, where he passed away 6 days later. We are forever grateful to Firtzwarren House and the staff for their compassion.
