Staff have always been very kind and helpful. The range of activities has been good. Inevitably during lockdown activities involving outsiders have been more limited than normal but the staff have done their best to make sure residents still had a good range of activities. The home has taken on board
suggestions of activities. The food always looks inviting. My dad took some time to settle into the home but the staff have always been supportive of him and us as his family. I would have no doubt recommending Metchley to people looking for a high-quality care home with caring and effective staff.

I just wanted to praise all the staff at Sunrise for all their wonderful hard work and efforts in caring for my 97-year-old mother these last 4-years and especially throughout the pandemic. My mother has been absolutely brilliantly cared for, and the staff have done so much to keep their home safe.
There have been amazing alterations carried out to allow for indoor Pod visits earlier on with further alterations to the front to allow for outside visits and sympathetic landscaping. It is clear that my mother feels safe, at home and very comfortable with the staff, who are so caring and kind.
The staff were fantastic today when we needed a family visit with our solicitor. They really went out of their way to accommodate us in a Covid safe way, providing a lovely lunch. We were most grateful. They all work so hard and really should receive great recognition and praise for all they do. So, thank you very, very much to all the staff.

One of the most difficult decisions I have ever had to make, but the compassion, understanding, knowledge and professionalism of the team at Edgbaston have made this so much easier.

My mum has settled quickly and is happy, and this is down to the amazing staff on the Reminiscence floor. They are

calm, take everything in their stride, and truly understand the needs of their residents.

I cannot find fault with any element of the service provided here from the minute you ring the bell to saying goodbye.

Thank you, everyone, you are all a credit to your organisation.

I would like to thank the team on Reminiscence Floor for the care and attention they gave to my mother during her recent stay.
My 93-year-old mother suffers from advanced dementia and was recovering from hospitalisation due to Covid and sepsis. The care, patience and kindness shown to her were exceptional;
and truly reflects the ethos and values of the team and their dedication to the provision of care in very trying times.
Thank you.

Although quite hesitant initially, Dad soon embraced life at Sunrise and enjoyed the camaraderie, activities and friendly atmosphere. The staff could not do enough to help him settle in, and he was made to feel very welcome. They treated him as an individual, and nothing was too much trouble. Sadly,
Dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer at Christmas, and that was when Sunrise's caring staff really excelled beyond our expectations. They knew what support to offer to both us and Dad and offered excellent end of life care under very difficult circumstances due to Covid. I can't praise them enough and have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Sunrise as a brilliant assisted living complex.

Mum was struggling with the lockdown resulting from the Covid 19 pandemic, and we, therefore, agreed she needed some time out to recharge her batteries, be looked after and have some social interaction. We chose Sunrise Edgbaston because we had had good reviews from friends of Mum who had been there
following operations. Mum has thoroughly enjoyed her time there, especially the food, the kindness of the team, and the activities. Mum is still there and very happy. She has received both injections and is now back to her best. I have no issues recommending Sunrise Edgbaston.

Mum has Alzheimer’s and we reached a point where she wasn’t safe to live on her own. Such a tough and upsetting decision to make. Mum moved into Sunrise of Edgbaston in November 2020 and I cannot rate the home highly enough. I found leaving Mum in someone else’s care the hardest thing ever, but we as
a family have been so well looked after and reassured. We ring up regularly and the care staff are happy to tell us how Mum has been, we receive photos of Mum regularly too and she looks so well and is clearly so well cared for. The carers must be amazing as they’ve got Mum to have a shower (we struggled with this when she was at home for the last year)! We have been extremely lucky that Mum has settled in really quickly. With regard to visiting, we were initially able to settle Mum into her room, which is huge, clean and homely. We then arranged FaceTime calls and window visits. Mum is so relaxed, we are so pleased and would highly recommend Sunrise of Edgbaston.

My mum had been struggling with the effects of Alzheimer’s and couldn’t continue living independently and needed 24/7 care urgently. I contacted another home, no rooms were available. That home's manager asked the manager of Sunrise of Edgbaston to contact me. Thankfully we were able to move Mum to
Sunrise two days later on 14th August 2020. Mum had been assessed the day before which had been very thorough with discussing everything we needed to know. It was a traumatic day when we moved Mum into Sunrise. With the team's help we all calmed down and decided it was the best place for Mum to stay. Everyone was so kind, thoughtful and respected how we were feeling and didn’t rush us in any way. Mum has been having a lovely time since being in sunrise and it has improved her life immensely. My mum is now safe and being cared for by caring and experienced staff. I would highly recommend Sunrise to anyone.
Reply from Nick Drinkwater, General Manager at Metchley ManorSunrise of Edgbaston appreciate moving into a care home can be an unsettling time. This is why we take the time to engage with family members and friends of the resident to make the process as smooth as possible, to get to know the resident on a personal level. We are pleased your mother has settled in well.

My family are very grateful for the care and support that is given to our mother who is 93years, by Sunrise Edgbaston, both recently and over the years.
Especially since the pandemic began, we were pleased to have received updates about national and local implementation of policies by Sunrise to limit
the risks of Covid-19 although this meant the suspending visits.
This communication was welcome and the measures effective until, in May, my mother was one of a handful of people who tested positive for the virus and became increasingly ill.
Having previously instigated a 'hospital avoidance' plan in conjunction with Sunrise and the local GP, meant that although she became very ill, she remained 'at home' in an environment and with staff that she had been familiar with since 2010. She was cared for, including oxygen treatment, in a very professional way with appropriate support and medical direction from GP. Despite some very dark moments, the dedication of the staff helped her to recover.

Moving our Dad into assisted living was the hardest decision we have ever had to make. We genuinely did not believe that anyone else could look after him like we did. Sunrise has proved to us already that they can meet our standards, but also provide Dad with a far better level of medical and social
care. The timing for Dads move couldn’t have been at a worse time, at the beginning of May, at the height of the Covid-19 infection rates within the UK. The team at Sunrise went above and beyond to reassure us that they would take care of Dad and keep him safe.
Dad did struggle to settle initially for the first two weeks, he was confused and upset, but their patience and support was endless, both with us ( we phoned them lots!) and Dad.
After two weeks, Dad is loving the gardens, the food, the staff.
We’ve been impressed with the communication, attention to detail, and genuine desire to ensure the residents enjoy each day!

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.909)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.909) out of 10 for Metchley Manor is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 23 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.909 for Metchley Manor is calculated as follows: ( (250 Excellents x 5) + (25 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 275 Ratings = 4.909
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Metchley Manor is based on 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 98 registered maximum number of service users is 19.6, which has been reached with 23 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Kim-Marie Newton Newton

Job Title: Home Manager

I started in health and social care in 2022, having worked for the Care Quality Commission and in roles including Care Coordinator, Home Support Officer and General Manager. I hold a BA (Hons) Health & Social Care and a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management. I’m also proud to be a dementia pioneer and a mentor in mental health.

Before joining Metchley Manor, I was a Regional Support Manager for a large care provider, overseeing residential dementia, general nursing, palliative care and younger adults with enduring mental health needs.

I’m passionate about putting residents at the heart of everything we do. For me, person-centred care means making sure every day is meaningful and special for each individual we support. I feel privileged to share my experience with such a dedicated team and to lead the way in delivering exceptional care and service to residents and their families.
