Having recently moved my mother from another independent care home, where it was clear standards were beginning to slip, we were astounded and delighted at the complete change in standards, for the better of course. For the money, the staff, care, food and environment are outstanding. Whenever we have
been able to visit, we are recognised and made as welcome as the residents.
Even in these difficult times when we ring my mother, if the staff answer in her room, they check whether it's my brother or myself calling by name before passing the phone over.
Reply from Nick Drinkwater, General Manager at Metchley ManorWe are thrilled with your positive experience and are so glad your mother has settled in so well to Sunrise of Edgbaston. We take great pride in delivering high-quality care and providing facilities to our residents. Your recognition of this is invaluable to our team, thank you.

During Covid-19 with the Government guidelines, we are not able to visit loved ones - Sunrise kept us up to date with all the necessary precautions, and care taking place and made sure we kept in contact by regular phone calls and letters. I am pretty certain that had my aunt not received 24-hour care
from Sunrise, she would not be here.
Reply from Nick Drinkwater, General Manager at Metchley ManorAt Sunrise of Edgbaston our ultimate goal is to provide the best possible level of care we can. From our carers, nurses and activities team we strive to achieve a sociable and comfortable community our residents can call home. We are so happy to see the improvements made by your Aunt.

Where do I start, Mum entered Sunrise of Edgbaston on 9/1/2020. She was suffering from Alzheimer’s but able to manage herself with assistance. From the day she arrived, she was so well looked after. She had an epileptic fit the first night she was there but it was professionally managed by the staff
and they prevented her from going into hospital and confusing her more. From then on, the staff showed nothing but care for my mother. There were challenging times when she packed her bags and wanted to come home but they handled it with professionalism. She deteriorated very quickly and died in March so never got to experience the full Sunrise experience. I cannot thank the entire team enough for their care. The team leader was wonderful and led her team so well and provided mum with the care she deserved in her final few weeks. You are all truly wonderful and I thank you. You were empathic and showed how much you cared. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend you to anyone. Thank you.

My aunt has been a resident at Sunrise for 11 months. I am so pleased with the care that she receives there. The carers are all supportive not just to Auntie but to us as a family too. The standards in every aspect are superb. Thank you Sunrise.
Reply from Nick Drinkwater, General Manager at Metchley ManorSunrise of Edgbaston appreciate moving into a care home can be an unsettling time. This is why we take the time to engage with family members and friends of the resident to make the process as smooth as possible, to get to know the resident on a personal level. I react very positively to the lovely atmosphere in this place. The staff react so sensitively to the resident's needs and create such warmth no requests are overlooked and they always go the second mile.
Re: the time factor - that, which I have stated - doesn't fluctuate. There is warmth, understanding
and gentleness as the residents are catered for and speaking for myself but it must apply to other visitors a sensation that their heart and soul is powered with the work they do. Thank you all.

My sister-in-law is a resident of Sunrise for 9 months residency. My wife (her sister) and I visit her approximately 3 times a week. Since taking up residency we have felt very much at home in very fine furniture and staff very caring. The reception (conserg) is very friendly (important), our sister-in-law
is very happy to be there being very aged. Security of our relative is important to us, as is other items of Sunrise.

Sunrise staff are friendly and the home offers lots of activities for residents, including regular days out. The food is good quality, although there is a lot of it! The rooms and communal spaces are generally very clean and welcoming. There is a coffee bar in reception that you can bring family members

My mother has been a resident at Sunrise for approximately 12 months. She was unsafe at home, not eating and generally not looking after herself. On being a resident at Sunrise, after a short settling in period, all that turned around, she is now properly cared for, eating regular meals and she’s safe.
The nurses and staff care for her needs, whether it be personal care or just going out on trips to the shops, local attractions or even the pub for a drink and/or meal. There is plenty of entertainment each week and there is always something to do for the residents. There are regular visits by healthcare professionals. I fully recommend Sunrise as a residential home.

My husband was admitted to hospital in the days before Christmas and once his treatment was complete, not being strong enough to return home, I needed to consider a period of respite care for him with little notice.
Without any prior experience of finding such a facility to meet mine and my husband's
needs, I shared my dilemma with the personnel at Sunrise of Edgbaston and they moved quickly and efficiently to enable me to transfer my husband into a safe, comfortable and dignified environment with an appropriate level of care to aid his recovery.

From my first contact with them, everyone at Sunrise was friendly and supportive and the care that my husband received during his stay cannot be faulted.
I would not hesitate to utilise Sunrise's services again and certainly would recommend them to others without reservation.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.909)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.909) out of 10 for Metchley Manor is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 23 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.909 for Metchley Manor is calculated as follows: ( (250 Excellents x 5) + (25 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 275 Ratings = 4.909
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Metchley Manor is based on 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 98 registered maximum number of service users is 19.6, which has been reached with 23 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
