My mother was only here for a few weeks while we built her a room at her home. Loved the home, never the less, Mum didn't cope very well. Not the home, just Mum. All the carers and staff were fantastic. Thanks also to a particular member of staff for looking after Mum on her night shift.

My husband and I were really worried about putting my father-in-law in care due to his decline with vascular dementia as any relative would be. But after a lot of reassurance from the care home manager and the warmth of the staff when he arrived, all our fears were laid to rest. After two weeks, he
had settled and didn't even mention coming home.
We know now he is in the best place and applaud everyone that does this for a living as the last seven months looking after him have been our most difficult time ever. My husband and I now know he is extremely well looked after and have no worries about his future time spent here.

Mom has been there eleven and a half years now. The staff are lovely and very caring to Mom and all residents no complaints, other than, I do complain when they lose Mom's blankets, which have large bold writing on labels, both sides of blankets. They come back at some point but that's not the point.
Shouldn't be lost in the first place. Other than that, not a problem at all.

Generally speaking, my daily care routine is good. Naturally, there are days when perhaps the staff are under pressure and my needs are not always met as promptly as usual.

My room is very nice and generally, the staff are respectful and caring.

The food is generally good, but I prefer my food

to be piping hot when it arrives as I am not a quick eater. It would also be nice if there was a better selection of sandwiches at teatime.

The staff are all very friendly towards both my mother and all family visitors. Mum is now getting settled in the home and is making good progress. Staff seem to be vigilant towards Mum as she has tried to go out on her own and has been stopped.

On my last visit to Holmwood Care Centre to visit my mother, I made my way to my mother's room, bumping into care workers and nurse on my way.
They are always pleasant and polite to talk to. My mother was in her room with a nurse taking her pulse etc with a carer in attendance. My mother has been
in there since Sept 2017 after a difficult start she is now getting adjusted to being there. Overall very pleasant visit.

Our family cannot speak too highly of the care received by our sister.
She has a difficult mental illness to cope with but the patience and understanding given by the staff is exemplary.

My husband had Parkinson's which made him a difficult patient but everyone from the odd job man/cleaners, right through to the manageress - also to me his wife as I spent every day with him - they were all most helpful and kind. Nothing was too much trouble. A great team.

My mother has always felt very well cared for whilst in Holmwood. It is close to where I live which was the main reason for choosing the home but it is very well run, with good, caring staff. Job done.

Since having to find a care home for our Mother which was quite a stressful task, looking around various homes. I can say that the warmth experienced on our first visit to Holmwood has not changed in any way. During the months at Holmwood, there has never been a time when I have doubted the decision
made. Friendly staff, activities and the mixing of the residents so they make friends have been such a relief, this along with the care needed for our Mother.

My mom has been a resident at Holmwood since August 2016. She was recently taken very poorly. The care provided by the staff at Holmwood was second to none. I'd like to thank the team that attended to her every need while we waited for the GP and Paramedics. They not only took great care of Mom,
but also supported us (the family). Mom spent a few days in hospital, during which Holmwood kept in touch with us and the hospital. They were keen to have Mom back and care for her. They liaised directly with the hospital regarding her condition and return home and organised transport once medically fit. On her return, Mom received a very warm welcome, paying frequent visits to her room. The situation has confirmed that Mom is very well cared for and it is a comfort to know that she is in good hands. A big thank you to all.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.107)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.107) out of 10 for Holmwood Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.657 for Holmwood Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (72 Excellents x 5) + (30 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 105 Ratings = 4.657
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.45 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Holmwood Care Centre is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 12 = 0.75
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
