My mother came to The Lawns once a week for a bath and hair wash. The manager ensured that everyone involved with this was aware of her particular physical problems so that, despite her anxieties, my mother enjoyed the whole experience. We particularly enjoyed sitting in the lovely lounge afterwards, sipping tea whilst watching the fish swim round the pool in the courtyard garden (a really lovely feature). All the staff we met were friendly and caring and looked after my mum very well.

I write as a retired Professor of Medicine with long experience in clinical care. The treatment of my wife has been exemplary in every respect. So much so that when she attended the hospital for a review following the excision of a tumour the surgeon and nursing sister both said that the total care including nursing was so good at The Lawns, that they would with confidence, discharge my wife for the care home to continue management of the wound as it healed, with no more for the hospital to follow up.

It has taken me a while to leave a review after the death of my mother, but I feel I must say that care at The Lawns was extremely poor especially after Mum went into the Full Nursing Care section. Staffing at night is almost non-existent, especially at weekends and it got so bad at the end of Mum's life that the family had to call "111" and "999" as we couldn't get any assistance at all from the one night nurse when Mum was in extreme pain for several hours. Mum's room was very shabby and the whole floor looked very tired. I would not recommend this Care Home and as a family, we are still shaken by the poor care Mum received.

Sincere condolences for your loss. It is a shame your review reflects limited contact with us during your mother's 2-year stay. The content of this review is not reflective of family feedback about the care and support provided by the team.
Thank you cards and gifts were received.

My mother came to The Lawns for respite care following a fall and hospital stay. We found the home to be very clean, spacious and welcoming. The manager and her team have been wonderful with Mum and nothing was too much trouble for them. Mum settled in very quickly and soon made friends with the lovely residents. She was mentally stimulated with activities and physically encouraged which helped her recovery. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this lovely place.

Highly recommend The Lawns Nursing Care.
My mum was here for eight weeks, and I could not fault the care my mum received.
All staff who cared for Mum not only took the time to get to know Mum, but they also supported us as a family at what was a difficult time.
Always reassured that when we left Mum she would be looked after and cared for.
The staff were consistent, professional and empathetic.
The opportunity for activities and a day did not go by where staff were engaged with residents to provide activities and stimulation.
Forever thankful to each and every person who cared for our mum.

Thank you.

My mother-in-law was discharged to The Lawns from the hospital on palliative care at the start of the pandemic.
It was a hard time to have a family member who, at the time, was considered to be near end of life. The communication and the policies and procedures in place made us feel confident that she was in the right place.
Under the care of The Lawns, my mother-in-law rallied and spent two years as a happy resident. I think her highlights were probably a visit to an Alpaca farm and a visit from some therapy ponies. Horses have been a life-long love of hers.
The team have been fantastic from admission through to her sad passing on Boxing Day 2022. I can't praise them highly enough, including the support the manager has given us following my mother-in-law's death.

Thank you all so much.

When my mother suffered a collapse in her health in 2022 and needed residential care The Lawns was the only contender, offering every reassurance. My wife's mother was well looked after there several years ago. The staff were always friendly and interested in my visits and enriching activities occur almost every day. The Lawns in well-appointed light and spacious rooms. The manager is hands-on and is capable of preventative management of the inevitable situations as they arise. Mum liked the food and the atmosphere which was a boon as she was often difficult. Her needs were assessed/risk assessed and we were kept informed on a regular basis. The Lawns gave us peace and reassurance after a prolonged difficult spell.

Visiting a loved one in a nursing home can be a challenging experience. The inevitable comparison between how the person was with how Alzheimer's takes so much away is like a drawn-out bereavement. Then there is the guilt. Though the time comes when a nursing home is the right option, the regrets that it has to be so never end.
I remember my first visit to The Lawns. An attractive building with a light-filled, soaring reception space gave a perfect first impression. Cheerful, I thought. Like the kind, happy receptionist. I knew from what I'd read that the manager has an outstanding background in nursing. Meeting her didn't disappoint as she showed me a lovely room, newly refreshed. A safe bed with high sides and ample pillows that my partner would draw comfort from as she held them close. Every one of the carers I met seemed happy and cheerful. And when the end came, they couldn't have been kinder.

I'd like to say a word too about the financial aspect. The gentleman I dealt with put himself out to be helpful. No wonder The Lawns often has a waiting list.

After a prolonged hospital stay, and an unsuccessful return to her sheltered housing flat, we felt my mother-in-law needed 24/7 nursing care. From our first meeting at The Lawns with the manager, through to assessment and admission, we were very impressed by the caring, compassionate, supportive and professional approach offered by all staff. The transition for my mother-in-law has not been easy and her needs are increasing. The peace of mind we have, as we live a few hours away, is knowing that she is treated well and we feel very reassured by our phone conversations with the home. We are very thankful for all the care my mother-in-law is receiving. The Lawns is very welcoming when we visit and the rooms are homely, especially as we could add personal touches with photos and flowers.

My mother moved into The Lawns Nursing and Residential Home in the first few days of May because her on-going health needs meant she could no longer be cared for at home. The transition from home to care home went really well, and the thorough assessment that was done before she moved has ensured she is getting the level of care she needs. She has settled in, and I have noticed a significant improvement in her well-being and general demeanour. She feels relaxed because she knows she is being looked after and so she's happy to be there. The staff are kind and considerate, and attentive to her needs. The building is in very good condition, and very homely. Mum likes having her pictures on the walls and her photographs on display, and that helps make her room feel like home. It's a pleasure to visit her there and I am confident she's getting the care she needs.

My mother moved from another highly rated nursing care home, and I cannot emphasise enough the improvement we have seen in her happiness and health since she moved to The Lawns Nursing and Residential Home. There is also much improvement in her mobility and socialising, and this can only be attributed to the encouragement she now receives. Finally, during every visit, she tells us how friendly and hard working the management and caring staff are.

The lady relative has been a resident for eight years and has received wonderful care. She has deteriorated during this time in a natural manner but not due to any lack of care by the staff. The last two years have taken their toll due to the difficulty of visiting due to Covid. We have always been made very welcome when visiting was allowed.

This is my mother's second care home after confusional episodes meant the first became unsuitable for her needs. The Lawns was a godsend, with immediate assessment, understanding and resolution of her requirements and all over the busy Christmas period and during general covid restrictions. Consequent intermittent confusions after TIAs have been coped with, showing firmness and sympathy and this has been instrumental in helping her to settle contentedly. We particularly appreciate the lack of continuous alarms/beeps/bells having experienced these at my mother-in-law's nursing home and found them distracting. We visit 2-3 times a week and are always impressed by the friendly greetings, information and professionalism of all the staff.

The care they gave to my mother was outstanding. My brother and I were kept informed all the time. My mother died a dignified and pain-free death. We were allowed to visit whenever we wanted or ring whenever we wanted, during her last week or so. (Even though no general visiting was allowed due to the covid outbreak).

My mum has been a resident at The Lawns for almost three years, she suffers with dementia and the care she receives there is second to none. The carers are kind and compassionate and attend to all of mum's needs treating her with dignity at all times and all under the excellent stewardship of the manager. The food is excellent with plenty of variety and her room is very comfortable with plenty of space for her personal possessions. She is perfectly contented, often telling me that she is happy and likes it there, which is a great comfort to me. There is an excellent events and entertainment team who endeavour to get residents involved in lots of activities and celebrations. It offers my mum a safe environment and I would not want her to be anywhere else.
