The Lawns Nursing Home, in Kempsey, near Worcester, is an award-winning home with a reputation for the highest standards of care. Nominated for the Gold Standard Framework for provision of End of Life Care "Care Home of the Year" award in 2019, and in October 2022 reaccredited with the Platinum Award for the next 3 years.

The home opened a new purpose-built extension of 22 beds in late 2018 which caters for both residential and nursing residents as well as a recent extensive refurbishment of the Manor House which is the oldest part of the home. Staff believe the best way for you to find out more about the home is to speak to the resident ambassador, residents and their families, to read the reviews for the care that is provided and of course to come and visit the home, open any time.

Family values are important to The Lawns, and they pride themselves on providing a warm and friendly homely environment supporting both residents and their families. The lifestyle and well-being team are dedicated to providing a varied and full programme of events, ranging from individual beauty therapies to charity dog shows to themed weeks and evenings. They encourage independent living as much as possible, from being involved in the preparation of meals to getting out of the home where possible. Families are always welcome to also attend outings.

Care is delivered by a registered nursing team and long-serving care and ancillary teams.

The care they gave to my mother was outstanding. My brother and I were kept informed all the time. My mother died a dignified and pain-free death. We were allowed to visit whenever we wanted or ring whenever we wanted, during her last week or so. (Even though no general visiting was allowed due to the
covid outbreak).

My mum has been a resident at The Lawns for almost three years, she suffers with dementia and the care she receives there is second to none. The carers are kind and compassionate and attend to all of mum's needs treating her with dignity at all times and all under the excellent stewardship of the manager.
The food is excellent with plenty of variety and her room is very comfortable with plenty of space for her personal possessions. She is perfectly contented, often telling me that she is happy and likes it there, which is a great comfort to me. There is an excellent events and entertainment team who endeavour to get residents involved in lots of activities and celebrations. It offers my mum a safe environment and I would not want her to be anywhere else.

My mother was given excellent care in her final three months, none more so than in her final three days, when we were allowed compassionate access, due to a Covid outbreak. The nursing care was exceptional, a peaceful and dignified death. I don't begrudge the money spent as it would have been impossible
to keep her at home.

Since my husband started living at The Lawns, I have always found the management and the staff have shown an amazing commitment to providing an excellent level of care and kindness to him, at times in challenging circumstances. My husband is happy and enjoys the entertainment and life The Lawns gives

After viewing the care home prior to my mum's respite there, we were all confident she would be well looked after and my concerns eased. I left my mother for four days of respite for a much-needed break for my husband and I. I was appalled when I came to collect her that she had been in the same clothes
for the past four days, stale food was down her clothes and she had remained in bed for most of that time.
My heart sank as being a nurse I know how hard it is to care for the elderly but was angry that basic nursing care had failed. My mother was unkempt and dehydrated and wearing wide pads which she never does at home. After phoning up to complain to the home, I am still awaiting their response.

A very caring staff team. Nothing is too much trouble. My 94-year-old mum became a resident in March 2021 after her health deteriorated markedly due to the pandemic lockdown. She was extremely lonely and was isolated from friends and family for many months. The staff at The Lawns treat my mum with respect
and thoughtfulness.
Mum now feels safe, happy and cared for. She enjoys the activities provided but also enjoys time on her own.

The manager and her team at The Lawns Nursing home have transformed my mother’s life, since she moved in August 2020. My mother was in another nursing home where her needs were not being met, which was having a huge impact on her mental health and wellbeing. My mother suffers from a number of medical
issues, including stage 4 COPD, Diabetes and Dementia. When she moved in, she wasn't eating proper meals, her blood sugars were out of control, she was suffering from anxiety and generally felt unwell all of the time. They worked hard to find food she liked (including homemade diabetic puddings every day!), they found an insulin regime that worked, worked with the GP to remove unnecessary medicines (including long term steroids), resolved the anxiety issues with a combination of medication and encouraging her to leave her room and get involved in activities. Eight months on, she now eats three meals a day, her appetite has improved, her blood sugars are stable, she feels a lot better and is happy!

Our mum suffered a stroke at home and had a brief stay in hospital. We did not think that she was ready to go home and so The Lawns agreed to take mum at very short notice for what we thought would be a period of recovery. Due to the covid restrictions, we could not visit but the staff kept us updated
at least once a day. Mum was very comfortable and was having wonderful care from all the staff. Sadly, mum faded quickly and thankfully we were able to be with her when she passed away. We will always be grateful for the care and kindness shown to our mum in her last days.

Our daughter, aged 43 years, was cared for at The Lawns for a period of 16 months before passing away in December 2020. She suffered from a rare degenerative brain disease. We found the care provided by everyone at The Lawns to be excellent. The staff were all very caring and showed considerable
compassion when caring for our daughter. The nursing staff and management kept us fully informed of her condition, at a time when Covid 19 rules restricted visits. The manager liaised regularly with our daughter's consultant in Sheffield, ensuring that he was fully aware of any changes and that her medication could be adjusted accordingly. Her room was excellent and was always kept clean by the housekeeping team. Our daughter loved her food and always enjoyed the meals served.

The Lawns is an experience in itself. The manager and her team are amazing, their person-centred care is first class. While our loved one was in their care, we were all coping with Coronavirus. We were not at all worried. The measures that were taken enabled staff, clients and visitors to remain safe

My mother has been a resident at The Lawns for several weeks and we have no complaints. I would highly recommend The Lawns for anyone needing care. All the staff are helpful and friendly and my mother is well taken care of. She has digestive problems and severe food intolerances and they do their best
to accommodate this, a big difference to being in the hospital where she was literally starving to death.

On leaving hospital we were told no more could be done for my husband - wheelchair-bound and needing 2 carers to move him from bed to wheelchair to toilet etc.
The Lawns have now got him walking (with a zimmer frame) moving from bed to wheelchair etc on his own and able to attend to most of his daily
needs without help. He has learned to propel his wheelchair himself to move bigger distances. I am now planning for him to come back and live at home.

Following a knee replacement, my mother needed a period of rehabilitation and the consultant, along with several friends recommended The Lawns. The admission process was very easy, so this helped minimise the stress. On the day she was taken to her room and told everything she needed to know. Staff
were very caring, only helping when needed to aid recovery. Nursing staff were diligent, food was excellent.

The love, care and compassion shown to our father in his last few weeks was outstanding. This comment applies, without exception, to every member of staff involved in caring for him and making sure he was comfortable at all times. Everyone went out of their way to make sure that we understood what
was happening with Dad and the care and support we received on his last day was amazing and made his death so much easier for us to cope with. I would like to thank the nurses and carers for their love, care, patience and kindness given to Mum over the last few months. They have given a lift to our lives during this difficult time and I know that Mum had a special relationship with some of them.
I know that nursing care can be challenging
and I greatly appreciate how passionate the team at The Lawns are in their role. Thank you to the carers who have taken time out of their break times to spend time with Mum.
The Lawns felt like my second home during the time Mum was there. I was always made to feel very welcome.

The care and support given to my mum is second to none. All staff members are caring and attentive. Mum is very happy and content here and because of this, the family can rest easy knowing that all is well with mum. We would highly recommend The Lawns for all loved ones.
