Hammerwich Hall, near Lichfield, offers care packages tailored to older people’s needs. Carers are also experienced in the challenges of physical disability as well as stroke care. Packages are personalised to particular residential needs, including respite and convalescence provision.

A homely interior is enhanced by landscaped gardens, a sun lounge and many pleasing aesthetics from the home’s time as a private house before it was lovingly converted to suit modern care provision.

Residents’ nutritional needs are assessed on arrival then incorporated into a food menu consisting of fresh and seasonal produce.

There are themed and monthly events to enjoy, as well as pub lunches, sing-alongs, games and gardening.

My nan is at this home and receives the most amazing care and affection from the staff. The care staff go above and beyond and the management team are friendly, welcoming and nothing is too much trouble for them. Highly recommend this home to anyone who is worried about putting their loved ones into
care as they make you feel at ease and safe that this care will be provided. The food is hit and miss but again they will provide anything that is requested.
The activities coordinator is always full of smiles, approachable and makes everyone's day.

My father recently returned from a 3 weeks stay at Hammerwick. From our first contact with the home to the day I collected him from the home, everything went swimmingly. Even when my father had to briefly return to hospital with suspected DVT. Hammerwich dealt with it all very well. The staff are very
caring and take the time to really engage with its residents. The setting is rural and quiet too. Would definitely recommend Hammerwich for short stays such as ours offering convalescent care.
Reply from Erica Neal, Divisional Director South at Hammerwich Hall Care HomeHammerwich Hall is a lovely care home in a beautiful setting with a large private garden, so peaceful for convalescence. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience, I will pass your kind comments on to Lynda and her team.

My mother has been a resident here for two months and settled in well. All the staff are friendly and caring. There is a welcoming atmosphere, and it feels like an extended happy family.
My mother has occasionally required some additional health care input since arriving, and this has been dealt with
promptly, and I've been kept informed about the outcome.
My mother has always been treated with respect and in a sensitive manner. I feel free to visit whenever I can and know that I can approach staff about any concerns, which have always been responded to. They have put a lot of effort into ensuring my mother's room is comfortable and adjusted to meet her needs.
There are a lot of stimulating events taking place during the week, along with special festival celebrations.
Overall, the family are very happy with the excellent care provided at Hammerwich Hall.

My father stayed at Hammerwich Hall Care Home for 2 weeks respite, this is his second stay and it was wonderful. I worried about respite care as he is not very sociable, he did join in with some activities but was also quite happy to sit in the many communal areas and watch. When we first arrived at
Hammerwich he was taken in by the beautiful building and atmosphere. All of the staff are so lovely and kind, they treat the residents as individuals and can tell that they care very much about them. I think that it bought out my Dad's true personality and he was very at ease and not stressed about how he is at home. He has mixed dementia and I was worried that he would rebel and misbehave but this was not the case. The communication is wonderful. I rang every other day to check on how he was and always got a full report. There is a fabulous range of activities inside and out for the residents. I have spoken to my Dad about a return visit and he is already looking forward to it, that in itself says it all!
Reply from Erica Neal, Manager at Hammerwich Hall Care HomeIt is our absoloute pleasure to have to your Dad stay with us, he settled in so well, he has a lovely sense of humour and quick wit, his smile is infectious. Thank you for putting your trust in us and thank you for such a lovely review.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My sister was treated very well in Hammerwich Hall. She was there for seventeen months. I found all the staff to be friendly and most helpful. Anything I asked of them they acted upon immediately. I found them all very approachable. In fact, I miss seeing them, as I do some of the other residents.
They became part of my life as well as my sisters.
My sister wasn’t in great shape when she moved into Hammerwich Hall. She had been in hospital for fifteen weeks and had lost a considerable amount of weight and was still losing weight. The staff at Hammerwich Hall sorted out her diet and stabilised her weight. They made sure she didn’t stray from her gluten-free diet. Her room and bathroom were always kept spotlessly clean and warm. The building itself was always kept warm. My sister was never cold, even in the depth of winter. Whether she was in her room, the lounge or the dining room. I have no complaints about Hammerwich Hall, only praise. Thank you all.

Very nice care home in a rural setting.
The staff always seem very caring to the residents. However, the home constantly appears to be understaffed. The food quality has dropped considerably in the three years my aunt has been there. I think this is something that should be looked at with urgency.
Old people don’t eat a lot of food but what they have should be of a decent quality.
Reply from Erica Neal, Manager at Hammerwich Hall Care HomeThank you for your review. The staffing levels are determined by the resident's dependency and these are reviewed on a weekly basis. I can assure you that if it is determined we require additional staff, I, as the home manager, would ensure the staffing levels are appropriate and sufficient to the current dependency of our residents. I am sorry you feel the food quality has dropped, it would be helpful if you could advise me why you felt that way. We do strive for continuous improvements and your comments would prove invaluable. Many residents retain a very healthy appetite and we constantly seek their views regarding the variety and quality of the food provided. In February 2023 new 4-week menus were implemented which had been put together by the residents working party group following consultation with other residents in the home and these will be revisited and amended as required following feedback from residents.

The care home is lovely and homely.
The staff at the care home are very caring and supportive of all the residents, any medical issues are dealt with quickly and efficiently.
The menu on offer has just been renewed and the choice is very good.
The rooms are lovely and residents are allowed to
make it their own adding some of their own personal belongings. We are very happy that we chose the home.

Very caring staff and management take the views of residents and relatives into account. For us, as a family, it's important to know they are well looked after and happy, and we can visit when we want to. They have recently had new meal menus, and the meals look very good.
Mom always says the staff
are lovely, and they couldn't be anywhere better.
When we take them out, they get tired, and say they want to go 'home,' and it's reassuring they look at Hammerwich Hall as home.
Reply from Erica Neal, Manager at Hammerwich Hall Care HomeThank you for your lovely review, your mum and dad are an absolute pleasure to care for. It's one of our golden moments when we achieve keeping loved ones together and knowing they see Hammerwich Hall as "home" is as good as it gets.

My relative has been in Hammerwich Hall Care Home for 14 years now. He has always recieved the highest standard of care from dedicated and very caring staff, and the staff always take the time to chat with my relative and make him feel welcome.
There have been many activities that my relative has
enjoyed whilst at Hammerwich Hall Care Home, and I can see the painting he has completed when I visit him.
The care home has beautiful gardens, which my relative enjoys walking around when he is able to, and the home is clean and well looked after by the staff there.
Staff contact me to update me on my relative's care and treatment as appropriate.
I am very grateful to all the staff members for looking after my relative so well over the last 14 years.

My father was a resident at Hammerwich Hall for the last 4 months of 2022. He was originally a resident for respite care but his condition slowly deteriorated so it became Dad’s home. All the staff made Dad and us welcome and nothing was too much trouble and he soon settled in. Dad sadly passed away
just before Christmas - during this awful time, Dad and the rest of the family were treated with kindness and compassion and nothing was too much trouble.

My relative has been at Hammerwich for many years now and has been so well looked after. He is very happy there, and the staff attend to all his needs. He has unfortunately had a few hospital stays lately, but Hammerwich always welcomes him back to where he feels safe and secure. The meals he gets are
far superior to the ones he used to cook himself, so he is usually one of the first to the dining hall!

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.658)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.658) out of 10 for Hammerwich Hall Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 27 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.658 for Hammerwich Hall Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (217 Excellents x 5) + (90 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 316 Ratings = 4.658
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hammerwich Hall Care Home is based on 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 39 registered maximum number of service users is 7.8, which has been reached with 27 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
