Spencer Grove's unique facilities provide the very best in comfort and care in a stimulating environment. Spencer Grove provides nursing and residential care and offers both long-term and short-term (respite) care.

All bedrooms offer en-suite facilities (some including wet room shower) and can be furnished to suit the needs of the residents. Their activity co-ordinators work alongside residents to design a varied programme of activities including armchair exercise classes, painting and crafts and pampering days. Overview

The Review Score of 6.6 (maximum of 10) for Spencer Grove Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 11 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Spencer Grove Care Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 2.0 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 2 years. (A 2 year period has been used as there were no positive reviews in the last 12 months)

Detailed Breakdown

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.606 for Spencer Grove Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (85 Excellents x 5) + (42 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 132 Ratings = 4.606

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 2.022 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Spencer Grove Care Home is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 3.75 then divided by 2 = 1.875

    2. Target of 13.6 positive Reviews (68 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 4 Reviews ÷ 13.6 Target = 0.294 , then divided by 2 = 0.147

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

6.6 Spencer Grove Care Home has a Review Score of 6.6 (6.628) from 11 Reviews

My mum has vascular dementia and has lived at Spencer Grove for 2 years. The staff are so supportive and thoughtful not only with mum, but with me as well. Recently the staff all attended a course on understanding dementia and they asked family and residents if they wanted to fill the empty spaces which I did and would thoroughly recommend. I very quickly realised that almost all of the training were things that they already do anyway daily at Spencer Grove and that meant so much to me to know mum is in such good, safe professional care.

My mother went into Spencer Grove just over two years ago. We were very lucky to have the home right on our doorstep. The care was excellent, my mother had dementia and had also had a stroke making life very difficult for her and also the carers. Spencer Grove is a happy place to be, so very friendly and informative. We felt reassured that mum was in safe hands always. Palliative care was given at the ending of her life this was also excellent and very comforting.

The home is always clean and staff are friendly. They all do their best to try to make people feel at home and have some amazing activities for people to get involved with.
The manager is always happy to speak to you if you have any questions.
I have been to quite a few care homes but this is by far the best.

Everyone at Spencer Grove has given my mother in law loving attentive care since her admission there in April 2015. The staff are always cheerful and genuinely care for all their residents. My husband and I are very happy to see how well she is being cared for. Previously she lived in their apartments above the care home but has been in and out of hospital since September 2014. In April 2015, she developed a corneal ulcer in her right eye which was the eye that worked reasonably well having lost most of the vision in her left eye due to macular degeneration. Due to the loss of her eye sight, it became necessary for her to go in to full time care and Spencer Grove very kindly found a place for her immediately where she has stayed ever since. She is frail but determined to not give in and can find her way round with the help of her walker with what little peripheral vision she has in her left eye and has now been registered blind. I like the fact that we can visit her at any time of the day, no set visiting times and, whenever we go, we are always welcomed by all. Mother always tells us that they are very good to her. We are looking for a nursing home in Lancashire now as we are relocating within the next few months and mother has told us to make sure we get her in somewhere as good as Spencer Grove which is high praise in itself.

I visit weekly and have nothing but praise for all the staff from the cleaners to the kitchen ladies to the carers and the office staff. I see them all and they are all kind, courteous, very caring and nothing is too much trouble for them. You are made very welcome when you visit and if you have any questions they find the time to talk with you. They even find time to talk with the residents which is nice to see. The residential home is clean, well maintained and the food is good. Keep up the good work Spencer Grove Care Home - Excellent.

Spencer Grove is a well run care home. The managers are approachable and very helpful. The care staff are always cheerful and have time to answer any questions you may have. The ancillary staff again are always cheerful. The home is keep very clean and the rooms are spacious and airy, some have better views than others. On my visits my Dad is always comfortable and his needs are well catered for. All medical issues are promptly dealt with. There are activities for the residents to take part in and the introduction this year of a monthly trip out has been a great success with the residents. I visited several homes before deciding on Spencer Grove and I am very happy with the choice I made.

My father moved into Spencer Grove on the 5 September. He has settled in very well thanks to the care and dedication of the staff. He is well looked after which has been a huge relief. The staff are always there to answer any concerns and they know each resident personally. Nothing is too much trouble. My father has a lovely clean light room with en-suite and with excellent care facilities.

My cousin was admitted to the residential care as her parkinson's was progressing in September 2014. She was well cared for and content, however this month she has been transferred to the nursing floor because of her condition and is having some trouble settling. The staff are doing their best to help her - especially the manager.
In the residential floor the manager's office is in the midst of all, which enables her to monitor her staff which she does well. On the nursing floor the managers office is away from all areas, therefore staff cannot have the same supervision which shows.

Description:

I started working for Milford Care as a weekend cleaner in 1993 after the birth of my first child. After a short period of time, I was approached by the matron who asked if I would join the care team as she could see that I had potential to become a carer.

After a few years, I was promoted to Care Leader, a role which I loved dearly and remained in for a further 15 years until the opportunity to become a Home Manager arose.
