Spencer Grove has recently been rated ‘Outstanding’ by CQC – February 2020. The home provides unique facilities with the very best in comfort and care in a stimulating environment. Spencer Grove provides nursing and residential care and offers both long-term and short-term (respite) care.

All bedrooms offer en-suite facilities (some including wet room shower) and can be furnished to suit the needs of the residents. Spencer Grove also has residential 'Care Suites' - offering all the benefits of residential care but contained within a beautifully appointed apartment, most with stunning, elevated views of the surrounding landscape.

For those with a love of the great outdoors the beautiful south-facing rooftop gardens provide stunning views across the Derbyshire countryside and offer a wonderful place to relax.

But the heart of Spencer Grove is its people. Staff receive extensive training so that they can deliver the best service to residents. Many have NVQ Level 2 diplomas in health and social care and also receive specialist training in end-of-life and dementia care.

Their activity co-ordinators work alongside residents to design a varied programme of activities including armchair exercise classes, painting and crafts and pampering days. Spencer Grove Care Home has an onsite hair salon and twice-weekly visits from a local hairdresser. The home also has a chiropodist who visits every eight weeks.

Mum has been in the home since March and has settled well. Obviously leaving your own home and independence is hard, however the staff have been wonderful with this transition and made it as easy as it can be for us all.

Spencer Grove is an excellent home for my mother. The staff are very caring and committed to helping the residents. The many activities are varied, interesting and stimulating. Mum really appreciates having everything done for her; not having to worry about household maintenance, shopping, cleaning,
cooking, laundry, etc and she says the food is really good. And for me, I have peace of mind that mum is being well cared for and has help on hand if needed.

My mum has lived at Spencer Grove for around 18 months after a big decline in her health meant it wasn't safe for her to live on her own. Right from the first moment we went through the doors we knew it would be the right place for her.
The staff really are miracle workers. They've helped Mum get back
to a physical level we didn't think possible as a family, she's so happy and settled, she's safe and so well looked after, and she's made genuine friendships with some of the other residents too.
With me not living nearby it's so reassuring for me to know that Mum is in such a great place. And with great people, I should add - the staff are just fantastic. They are brilliant with the residents, and also their families; they've always got time to discuss any thoughts or concerns. Nothing is too much trouble for them.
Spencer Grove isn't just a care home - it's a home for those who live there, and somewhere you can look forward to visiting.
If I could give higher ratings I would do.

From day one when my father became a resident all the staff have been friendly, courteous and helpful. My Father is very happy here. He likes the activities, especially bingo and the quizzes and also enjoys the exercises. His room is comfy and he never has any complaints about the food or staff

The staff is outstanding very polite very pleasant to talk to nothing is too much trouble. you can't put it down to one person it is a team effort a lot of behind the same people you don't see but they do a very very good job. I couldn't recommend the home enough. The staff treat people with dignity and the support is excellent. The place is always very clean with lots of activities happening. My friend has been in the home now for 3 months and is now enjoying a better quality of life, thank you Spencer Grove.

After much searching and research, my wife chose Spencer Grove Care Home for her mother. Having personally visited the home, I am impressed at the genuine care, respect and attention given by all of the staff to all of the residents. All areas of the home are clean and cared for.
Residents, along
with their visitors enjoy a full schedule of activities, including entertainment from singers, crafting, painting, darts and visits from a local chaplaincy, to name but a few. A full schedule of activities is posted throughout the home on a monthly basis. This helps family and friends to plan our visits and join in with the activities.
The food always looks and smells good with residents having a good choice for each meal. The home has a well-maintained roof garden which my mother-in-law, along with many of the residents, enjoys visiting and is able to help plan and maintain in the warmer weather.

Staff are delightful and always willing to go the extra mile in the care of the residents. Nothing is too much trouble. Very happy with the quality of care provided. The activities provided are frequent and well thought out to engage with the residents, and visitors alike, along with social events throughout
the year. The food always appears appetising and you even get a lovely cake on your birthday. It is very reassuring to know that your loved ones are so well looked after.

In the short time my relative has been a resident in Spencer Grove I can't speak highly enough of the care and compassion that has been shown to him. Every member of staff has been exceptionally friendly to him despite his complex needs and not speaking very well. Nothing is too much trouble and all
his needs have been met even offering him alternative food that is not on the menu.

I cannot recommend Spencer Grove Care Home enough, it really is a home from home. The staff are great, nothing is ever too much trouble, they are all so friendly and welcoming. My grandma loves the variety of food, especially when the have a theme and visiting the bar! All rooms are kept clean and spotless.

An excellent care home.
The staff are exceptional, regardless of department. From management, nursing, carers, entertainment, cleaners and kitchen, I have absolutely no issues.
Always helpful and friendly the staff are always there for the residents, whatever their needs.

Kind compassionate staff who create a family atmosphere and will do anything possible to help both residents and visitors.
Access to the home is excellent with adequate car parking.
There are frequent activities involving both residents and visitors with lots of themed days.

Spencer Grove Care Home is amazing and all the staff that work there are one big loving family. When my father was poorly and we needed urgent care the manager and her team came to my rescue. Dad moved into the home same day and he settled in from day 1. They helped my dad get mobile again and when
I visited him he always had a smile on his face. The staff also welcomed me on my visits and also had time to update me on dad.
The rooms are clean and large with different areas for my dad to visit the day room/café and bar.
I now have the comfort of knowing how good they are and if needed would be happy for my dad to stay again.
Thank you for all you do you are amazing and this is how care homes should be run 'Home from home'.

Samantha began her career at the Milford Care group as a kitchen assistant when she was just 13. In 2018, Milford Care invested in Samantha’s future with the company by sponsoring her to follow her dream of becoming a Nurse Associate. After 3000 hours of placement and exams to become a registered nurse, Samatha passed with flying colours and continued her career in the care home.


After becoming a nurse, Samantha decided to put herself forward for the role of Spencer Grove Home Manager. With her high levels of commitment, charisma, and unwavering positivity, Samantha achieved the role. Combined with her leadership experience, management skills, and 13 years of learning Milford Care inside out, it became apparent she was the perfect fit.
