Spencer Grove has recently been rated ‘Outstanding’ by CQC – February 2020. The home provides unique facilities with the very best in comfort and care in a stimulating environment. Spencer Grove provides nursing and residential care and offers both long-term and short-term (respite) care.

All bedrooms offer en-suite facilities (some including wet room shower) and can be furnished to suit the needs of the residents. Spencer Grove also has residential 'Care Suites' - offering all the benefits of residential care but contained within a beautifully appointed apartment, most with stunning, elevated views of the surrounding landscape.

For those with a love of the great outdoors the beautiful south-facing rooftop gardens provide stunning views across the Derbyshire countryside and offer a wonderful place to relax.

But the heart of Spencer Grove is its people. Staff receive extensive training so that they can deliver the best service to residents. Many have NVQ Level 2 diplomas in health and social care and also receive specialist training in end-of-life and dementia care.

Their activity co-ordinators work alongside residents to design a varied programme of activities including armchair exercise classes, painting and crafts and pampering days. Spencer Grove Care Home has an onsite hair salon and twice-weekly visits from a local hairdresser. The home also has a chiropodist who visits every eight weeks.

What a fantastic home. My Mum is safe and so well looked after. The home is so clean and no nasty smells. There are a lot of activities, i.e., games, singers, films, outings etc. The food is superb, they have a menu so there's always something to choose from. The doctors call regularly and I am informed
every day I visit how Mum has been. She has a lovely room overlooking fields. Mum's happy and so am I.

From our first meeting with office staff and the nurse who assessed Dad at home for respite at Spencer Grove, to the care staff, nurses and manager who we met whilst visiting Dad during his stay. Everyone without exception showed care and consideration and utmost professionalism to Dad and those of
us that visited him. On one occasion, an infection affected Dad within a 2-3 hour period, and the nurse on duty acted quickly to administer medication and fluids, helping him to recover - which prevented him from being admitted to hospital, for which we were very grateful, especially as this meant her staying beyond the end of her shift. Dad came in to their care within 48 hours due to Mum's deteriorating health and the staff responded to this situation with positivity, efficiency and with empathy and understanding, making for a very positive experience for us all - which means that should the need arise we would come back again, in the meantime, I will recommend to everyone.

My mum is terminally ill with a life-threatening bowel condition. As a retired nurse, I am fairly aware of the potential risk to her health and wellbeing. All staff members are so caring, genuine and extremely supportive to Mum, and to my family, as well as to myself. In this nursing home I know Mum

Walking into the care home that first day with my husband was memorable. The staff were welcoming and warm. Along the corridors, bathrooms looked clean and bright, staff busy tending the residents. In the dining room, small separate tables on wooden floors, plenty of room to move around. Big lounge
with patio doors and windows overlooking the garden pergola and walkway. The activities staff kept busy entertaining.
The building is well secured and certainly value for money both in food and cleanliness. It did not disappoint.

My mum was only in Spencer Grove for 5 days, she went there from hospital with advanced cancer diagnosis, for palliative care. Although it was a short stay, the manager, nurses and staff were very good, attentive, competent and nice with my mum. They made her end of life care as caring and comfortable

It really is a care home every member of staff from the cleaners to office staff really care.

Mum has been at Spencer Grove for three and a half years. The home is clean, some updating of the bedroom carpet is required. The home has been helpful and allowed Mum to decorate her room to her taste.
Food and drink is good and there is a good selection. There is no restriction on visiting hours,
some minor improvements are possible, ie, staff communication.

My mum has vascular dementia and has lived at Spencer Grove for 2 years. The staff are so supportive and thoughtful not only with mum, but with me as well. Recently the staff all attended a course on understanding dementia and they asked family and residents if they wanted to fill the empty spaces which

My mother went into Spencer Grove just over two years ago. We were very lucky to have the home right on our doorstep. The care was excellent, my mother had dementia and had also had a stroke making life very difficult for her and also the carers. Spencer Grove is a happy place to be, so very friendly
and informative. We felt reassured that mum was in safe hands always. Palliative care was given at the ending of her life this was also excellent and very comforting.

Samantha began her career at the Milford Care group as a kitchen assistant when she was just 13. In 2018, Milford Care invested in Samantha’s future with the company by sponsoring her to follow her dream of becoming a Nurse Associate. After 3000 hours of placement and exams to become a registered nurse, Samatha passed with flying colours and continued her career in the care home.


After becoming a nurse, Samantha decided to put herself forward for the role of Spencer Grove Home Manager. With her high levels of commitment, charisma, and unwavering positivity, Samantha achieved the role. Combined with her leadership experience, management skills, and 13 years of learning Milford Care inside out, it became apparent she was the perfect fit.
