After a difficult start for my mum at Spencer Grove, due to Covid and the difficulties this caused for residents and staff, I can only be thankful for the amazing, committed, caring staff that saw my mum through that distressing time. Always cheerful and helpful whenever I called, helped me enormously in coming to terms with the fact that my mum needed the care that I could no longer provide. She is now settling in well and receiving the love and attention that she needs and deserves. It is a difficult decision to make when handing over the life of a loved one, but I couldn't be happier with the love, care and personal attention that my mum gets from every single member of staff. Mum is partially sighted, but the staff found her a lovely, lightroom, very clean and warm. Always a warm welcome when we visit, and nice to see all the activities that are now developing again after a terrible time for staff and residents. Spencer Grove has become part of our family. You all deserve a medal!

My mother has been in Spencer Grove since the beginning of December 2021, she took a while to settle in, but with lots of patience and care from the dedicated staff on the residential ward where she is suffering from dementia, she slowly got used to the situation. Unfortunately, since my mother has been in there, we have been restricted by Covid rules, which have been very difficult for us, and also I imagine the staff, but they’ve done everything they can to reassure myself and my family about Mum and keep us updated with videos on their Facebook page. They always have time to speak to me about Mum and give me reassurance at this very difficult time.

Thank you so much for your kind words, Mum is a bright, caring lady and it is a pleasure to care for her.

Spencer Grove

Our mother has been at Spencer Grove for nearly 2-year. All this happened in the horrendous Covid virus outbreak. Mum has vascular dementia, and this has obviously had a massive impact on her mental health with the visiting restrictions. The care staff have been very sympathetic and caring to Mum, and though it's been such a difficult time for Spencer Grove, the management has given us time to talk about our worries and have tried their best to assure us that Mum is being cared for, which ultimately is paramount. Some of the care staff who look after Mum have become special people to us and could not praise them enough; they allow us to feel comfortable that Mum is being looked after in a dignified and caring manner. The management has gone out of their way to help to elevate our feelings of guilt, and we can sleep a little easier now. We honestly wouldn’t want Mum anywhere else than at Spencer Grove.

My father has been at Spencer Grove since October 2019. Initial impressions were good, the home offering (along with the usual expected facilities) a large/comfortable dayroom and garden terrace. Furthermore, the atmosphere was very relaxed and welcoming, Dad immediately felt at home and settled in quickly. With us both having got to know the staff more over the past couple of years, we have been so appreciative of their caring approach, hard work and dedication, particularly through these difficult times of the pandemic. Nothing is too much trouble with a visiting room established and Skype or similar calls available when visiting isn’t possible. The leadership from the head of the residential care floor is excellent; she is an extremely hardworking and dedicated professional, and her team reflects this. They always have a friendly word when phoning and keep you fully up to date with how your relative is doing. Highly recommended.

My mum and dad both lived at Spencer Grove Care Home from April 2015. Mum passed away in the home in March 2019, and Dad sadly had to spend his last days in hospital last September rather than being able to be with our awesome Spencer Grove Family. Nothing was ever too much trouble for any of the staff, not only were they caring for Mum and Dad, but they cared for our family too. Nothing was too much trouble. Spencer Grove was our home from home, and we could not have hoped for better care, love and affection. It was a pleasure over the years to see so many of the staff team grow and develop into incredibly compassionate and caring individuals. Choosing a care home and entrusting the care of your loved ones into their hands is a massive decision, at no time did we doubt that we had made the right decision. We could not have felt more at ease and confident that we could walk away and know that Mum and Dad were in the best hands possible. Thank you for always being there to support us all.

The care I received at Spencer Grove was first class, from the moment I arrived, when I was greeted by two very helpful and caring members of staff, to the day I went home after a week's respite. The Covid precautions were second to none during my stay, and I felt completely safe and assured. The carers were all very attentive and efficient, and I very much enjoyed talking to them. The roof garden was my favourite attraction - and it was accessible. Outstanding care.

I have been very pleased with the levels of care afforded to my parents whilst resident in the home. The carers have always displayed a positive attitude, and in the main nothing seems to be too much trouble. My father is increasing, failing health at present, but the staff do everything in their power to maintain his dignity and health.

What a fantastic home. My Mum is safe and so well looked after. The home is so clean and no nasty smells. There are a lot of activities, i.e., games, singers, films, outings etc. The food is superb, they have a menu so there's always something to choose from. The doctors call regularly and I am informed every day I visit how Mum has been. She has a lovely room overlooking fields. Mum's happy and so am I.

From our first meeting with office staff and the nurse who assessed Dad at home for respite at Spencer Grove, to the care staff, nurses and manager who we met whilst visiting Dad during his stay. Everyone without exception showed care and consideration and utmost professionalism to Dad and those of us that visited him. On one occasion, an infection affected Dad within a 2-3 hour period, and the nurse on duty acted quickly to administer medication and fluids, helping him to recover - which prevented him from being admitted to hospital, for which we were very grateful, especially as this meant her staying beyond the end of her shift. Dad came in to their care within 48 hours due to Mum's deteriorating health and the staff responded to this situation with positivity, efficiency and with empathy and understanding, making for a very positive experience for us all - which means that should the need arise we would come back again, in the meantime, I will recommend to everyone.

My mum is terminally ill with a life-threatening bowel condition. As a retired nurse, I am fairly aware of the potential risk to her health and wellbeing. All staff members are so caring, genuine and extremely supportive to Mum, and to my family, as well as to myself. In this nursing home I know Mum is well looked after and I completely trust all staff members.

Walking into the care home that first day with my husband was memorable. The staff were welcoming and warm. Along the corridors, bathrooms looked clean and bright, staff busy tending the residents. In the dining room, small separate tables on wooden floors, plenty of room to move around. Big lounge with patio doors and windows overlooking the garden pergola and walkway. The activities staff kept busy entertaining.

The building is well secured and certainly value for money both in food and cleanliness. It did not disappoint.

My mum was only in Spencer Grove for 5 days, she went there from hospital with advanced cancer diagnosis, for palliative care. Although it was a short stay, the manager, nurses and staff were very good, attentive, competent and nice with my mum. They made her end of life care as caring and comfortable for my mum and us all as a family as well as they possibly could have done.

My father became ill earlier this year and we faced the difficult decision to place him in a care home. As daunting as this was for me and my family, Spencer Grove Care Home have been incredible throughout. Dad is now settled in and we are happy with all aspects of his care, and most importantly so is Dad.

Throughout her very long stay, my friend was looked after most caringly and friendly. The whole staff became her family and she one of the members. She was treated respectfully at all times, and as her age illnesses increased the staff remained understanding and helpful. Well done everyone.
