I have been visiting a dear friend since April 2017. The location of the home is perfect and the staff are always very helpful and could not do more to make visitors welcome. Best to leave messages and get updates from the main admin staff - not easy to speak to the residents by phone. A very safe and
secure environment - keep it up!

My mother-in-law is contented and settled in the home. She always looks clean and presentable. She enjoys the food and her dietary needs are met. The staff are all friendly and approachable and are also caring and helpful. The home, although a little dated in its appearance, is clean and comfortable.
We are very satisfied with all that the home provides.

Our dad has now been in Blyth Country House care home for both respite and recently became a resident there.
The home itself was tired looking, however, the new management is currently making improvements to the home to make it a more homely environment for both residents and those visiting.
The staff
there are committed to every resident in there, adapting to all of their individual needs, making it a happy and positive environment to be in. Daily activities and entertainment are provided by a coordinator, who encourages all residents to engage and take part in quizzes, bingo and games which increase and boosts the morale of the home's community and social interaction between staff, residents and visitors.

The welcome is warm and friendly by whoever is the first to see you. All the staff who were on duty came and spoke to my cousin. They gave her hugs and smiles and made her laugh, they even sang to her "You are my sunshine".
The administrator came and showed us a curry menu which was for Tuesday, four
choices when he would be personally cooking.
I am so glad my cousin is here. The physio is working with her and she is eating normally after a year on a peg. Well done everyone. However, new carpets are a real must for new icing on the cake.

Our priority in choosing a home for Mum was kind, attentive and caring staff who made eye contact, smiled easily, used residents' names and did not call everyone ‘sweetheart’ or ‘darling’, but sounded as if they knew them as an individual. Of all the homes we visited, the staff at Blyth were/are the
best. They wore their uniforms – clean and well presented - with pride and created a great welcoming atmosphere.
We did not want Mum to vegetate in a chair, sleeping between meals. We wanted there to be activities where participation was encouraged, individual preferences accommodated, and Mum could enjoy being kept busy, using her brain without the pressure of having to remember. The programme at Blyth was so varied, engaging and enjoyable and resulted in hearing residents laughing - sadly, a rare occurrence in our experience of visiting other homes. Freshly prepared meals with menus featuring many of her favourites dishes.
And NO flutter echo, so debilitating for hearing aid wearers.

My mother has been a long term resident for 8 years. She has had fabulous care, particularly in the last 2 years. She had close bonds with the staff especially the kitchen staff whom nothing was too much trouble to tempt her to eat. She also adored her carers rejoicing in weddings and their return to
work. Her closest carers were so kind and gentle even if she had her off days. It goes without saying the care was splendid if she could have survived 8 years in the home having been so poorly. Thank you so much.

The care home is well organised and the staff are excellent with my mother and father. The staff are considerate and caring and polite to visitors as I myself used to be a carer in a nursing home. The room that my mother and father are in is clean and tidy.

My late mother had been in hospital and due to the progression of her illness needed nursing home care. The care and support she received from the nursing home was excellent. Also, the support myself and other family members received was excellent too. I cannot recommend this nursing home highly enough.

I would like to say what a wonderful nursing home Blyth is. The carers, the nurses, the cleaners, kitchen staff and the managers whilst my parents were at the home they were treated with dignity, respect, they were looked after very well. Towards the end of the stay I can not tell you how much they
supported me with both parents. All the carers and I really can't remember all of the names but you know who you are. One particular nurse, what an asset to the home, the manager, what a wonderful lady. I would highly recommend anyone to go to this nursing home.

My father received excellent care in this nursing home.
All his needs were met and he was treated with kindness and dignity.
Furthermore, the staff were kind and courteous to us his family and visitors.
The nursing staff and manager gave us information about his treatment whenever asked and were
able to tell us immediately how he was (night and day).
They made drinks for us when we visited and on the last day offered us meals.
My father couldn't have had better care and we are grateful to the staff for all their help at a sad and difficult time.

Although my grandmother doesn't have in site into her care needs and at first was apprehensive about moving into a care home, she has been made very welcome by the exceptional friendliness of all of the staff. From care staff to activities to kitchen, each member of staff demonstrates dedication and
an interest into making sure that all of her care needs are met on a day to day basis.

Current Review Score: 8.4 (8.447)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.4 (8.447) out of 10 for Blyth Country House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.1 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.114 for Blyth Country House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (44 Excellents x 5) + (11 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (10 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 70 Ratings = 4.114
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.333 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Blyth Country House Care Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 6 = 0.833
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
