Really lovely staff, cleanliness is good, grandad is happy to re-decorating his own space.
Activities are on the board & Menu board is up. We brought flowers and cheered everyone up, took pictures for admin.
Dad seems happier and has all he needs. We had a good chat & laugh with staff & other 'users'.

My dad was transferred from hospital to Barton Brook in January, he was only there for a few months until his passing at the end of March. All staff went above and beyond to care for dad and all staff welcomed us with warm hugs and great talks, still are keeping in touch. We consider Barton Brook staff
as our family too. Fantastic support, care and compassion

The staff on Irwell House are all excellent. Very caring & professional. Unfortunately there isn't enough staff to be able to support the residents as much as is needed. ie 18 residents with approx 7 of them needing 2 carers for toileting/washing. There is generally 2 carers and 1 senior carer on! 1
carer needed in lounge at all times. The rooms need more regular cleaning.

My sister has been here 7 months. Her previous accommodation was a lot bigger than the one she is in now. I asked Luke if she could be moved and straight away he took me to look at a newly refurbished room which was bigger. I was so happy of the immediate response and they are moving her into the accommodation
today. How is that? It's amazing!! Thank you to all the staff my sister is a very happy bunny.

My brother stayed at Barton Brook for 5 weeks restbite care.
His room was clean and comfortable as were all the bathrooms and communal areas.
But the thing that makes Barton brook are it's staff. All were warm, welcoming and super helpful.
What particularly impressed me was the care and patience
they showed the residents who were no longer able to feed or care for themselves. Nothing was too much trouble ! Many thanks to all who cared for my brother.

My father lived at Barton Brook Care Home from August 2023 to February 2026. During that time the home was placed into Special Measures (Nov 2023) and later received another poor CQC rating (Dec 2025), which was not proactively shared with families. There were three permanent managers and one temporary
manager in just over two years, alongside significant staff turnover, creating instability and inconsistent communication.
The current manager did not introduce himself to families and was rarely visible, often observed in his office monitoring CCTV rather than engaging with residents or staff. My only interaction with him during my father's transfer was unprofessional; I was told care plans had been sent when they had not.
The home feels tired, with ongoing odour and cleanliness concerns. Food lacked variety; my father developed Type 2 diabetes during his stay, with biscuits routinely offered. Many frontline staff work hard but appear overstretched and unsupported.
Reply from Alison Foreman, Commercial Director at Barton Brook Care HomeHow sorry we were to read your review. We take onboard your comments, the team at the home have been made aware.
In such a large service, the manager of each individual 'house' is the consistent 'go to person' for all residents and their families. Each house of around 30 people is equivalent to a small care home, with the manager in a house leading the team to provide excellent care to residents. It is their role to address concerns, regarding any shortcomings. Concerns would be escalated, if they were unable to be resolved. We are sorry your concerns were not heard, when they were raised.
Regarding your points, Barton Brook has 120 team members, within 4 houses; recruitment is an ongoing process. Our registered manager attends each 'Residents and Family' meeting, they are widely advertised. The refurbishment programme has been ongoing in the home for 6 months, in bedrooms and communal areas, and the registered managers door remains open to all staff, families and residents.

Mum is on Irwell Unit & has been there for 3 years. Both me and my sister find the staff very approachable & willing to listen if we have any concerns. Mum is well cared for both with cleanliness & nutrition. I can't comment on facilities & activities as mum is bedbound and we aren't there at mealtimes
but mum is obviously eating okay.

There is a very clear lack of funding within the home. This is visual with the staffing levels, the upkeep of the home, activities on offer, training standards and happiness of the residents. Staff lack clear understanding of residents, especially those who have a diagnosis of dementia or other lack
of mental capacity. Activities on offer are the choice of the home and not the residents. The involvement for everybody is very limited.
The rooms of the residents are very outdated and non person centred. The home is very institutionlised. The residents day to day routine is fit around the hours the staff work of the rota system. Most residents will be in bed before 7pm, where this might not always be there choice at heart.
There have been many meetings held in the time my family members has been within the homes care. Not much gets done after these meetings and the home manager doesn't even take minutes via laptop/paper of the meetings to action what has been reported or are concerns.
Reply from Alison Foreman, Commercial Director at Barton Brook Care HomeWe wish to respond to your review in the most positive way possible. Firstly, at every Family meeting we have a minute taker, this is not the manager, he chairs the meeting. All are welcome to review any meeting minutes for updates and progress on issues raised.
Regarding bed times, this was an historic concern, and has long since been addressed.
The home provides varied activities and hobbies, including great entertainers. Very recent visitors to the home, including our local authority, have given very positive specific feedback, also recorded on Facebook. If there is any activity you think should be included for the resident you know, please say.
On your visits you will have seen the refurbishment of the home, this will continue into 2026. Should you wish to personalise the room of your loved one, you are welcome to do so.
Lastly, please be reassured that so much is going on in the home to continuously improve all aspect of the care and service provided. Kind regards

Carers on Brindley are very good but not enough time available to be able to provide shower & hair washing at least weekly have to continue to ask for Mum's hair to be washed when its gone over a week. Lunch time meals are continuing to deteriorate, having to provide other food or else Mum would have
nothing to eat this is extra cost
Reply from Davey Taverner, Home Manager at Barton Brook Care HomeThank you for your feedback! We are happy that our caregivers are doing a great job, but we understand your concerns about time availability for showering and meal quality. My mum seems very settled here, and I love that she is less angry than at her previous care home. I really am grateful to the staff in Moss house. They do a great job. My issue would be the activities seem non existant, and there is no real one to one session eventhough the boards state its daily and
I know the staff are frustrated that they dont get time to spend with the residents 121
Also Ive been waiting 6 months for my mums door to be fixed/replaced.
Reply from Davey Taverner, Marketing Manager at Barton Brook Care HomeThank you for your feedback on how we are doing. We appreciate your honest words and would like to assure you that we take all comments and feedback seriously. Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.345)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.345) out of 10 for Barton Brook Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 40 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 35 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.345 for Barton Brook Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (291 Excellents x 5) + (105 Goods x 4) + (46 Satisfactorys x 3) + (18 Poors x 2) + (15 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 475 Ratings = 4.345
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barton Brook Care Home is based on 35 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 120 registered maximum number of service users is 24, which has been reached with 35 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
