Mum is on Irwell Unit & has been there for 3 years. Both me and my sister find the staff very approachable & willing to listen if we have any concerns. Mum is well cared for both with cleanliness & nutrition. I can't comment on facilities & activities as mum is bedbound and we aren't there at mealtimes
but mum is obviously eating okay.

There is a very clear lack of funding within the home. This is visual with the staffing levels, the upkeep of the home, activities on offer, training standards and happiness of the residents. Staff lack clear understanding of residents, especially those who have a diagnosis of dementia or other lack
of mental capacity. Activities on offer are the choice of the home and not the residents. The involvement for everybody is very limited.
The rooms of the residents are very outdated and non person centred. The home is very institutionlised. The residents day to day routine is fit around the hours the staff work of the rota system. Most residents will be in bed before 7pm, where this might not always be there choice at heart.
There have been many meetings held in the time my family members has been within the homes care. Not much gets done after these meetings and the home manager doesn't even take minutes via laptop/paper of the meetings to action what has been reported or are concerns.
Reply from Alison Foreman, Commercial Director at Barton Brook Care HomeWe wish to respond to your review in the most positive way possible. Firstly, at every Family meeting we have a minute taker, this is not the manager, he chairs the meeting. All are welcome to review any meeting minutes for updates and progress on issues raised.
Regarding bed times, this was an historic concern, and has long since been addressed.
The home provides varied activities and hobbies, including great entertainers. Very recent visitors to the home, including our local authority, have given very positive specific feedback, also recorded on Facebook. If there is any activity you think should be included for the resident you know, please say.
On your visits you will have seen the refurbishment of the home, this will continue into 2026. Should you wish to personalise the room of your loved one, you are welcome to do so.
Lastly, please be reassured that so much is going on in the home to continuously improve all aspect of the care and service provided. Kind regards

Carers on Brindley are very good but not enough time available to be able to provide shower & hair washing at least weekly have to continue to ask for Mum's hair to be washed when its gone over a week. Lunch time meals are continuing to deteriorate, having to provide other food or else Mum would have
nothing to eat this is extra cost
Reply from Davey Taverner, Home Manager at Barton Brook Care HomeThank you for your feedback! We are happy that our caregivers are doing a great job, but we understand your concerns about time availability for showering and meal quality. We are actively working on solutions to improve these areas and appreciate you bringing it to our attention. Your mum's satisfaction and well-being are our top priorities.

My mum seems very settled here, and I love that she is less angry than at her previous care home. I really am grateful to the staff in Moss house. They do a great job. My issue would be the activities seem non existant, and there is no real one to one session eventhough the boards state its daily and
I know the staff are frustrated that they dont get time to spend with the residents 121
Also Ive been waiting 6 months for my mums door to be fixed/replaced.
Reply from Davey Taverner, Marketing Manager at Barton Brook Care HomeThank you for your feedback on how we are doing. We appreciate your honest words and would like to assure you that we take all comments and feedback seriously. We are looking into adding more activities coordinators to the team and we will have a maintenance operative loo into the replacement of your mums door. We are thrilled to hear that mum is settled with us, the team on Moss House will be delighted to hear your wonderful words of recognition. Have a great day, thanks.

I can only speak for Moss Dementia Unit. I have nothing but praise for Moss. The manager Blessing is incredible. He has improved the unit 200%. Kind caring and REALLY cares. Xavier the new assitant manager is amazing he is brilliant with his residents and relatives but his medical knowledge is incredible.
The carers on the ward are THE BEST!! I cannot praise or thank they enough. The laundry and domestic staff are such caring people and they too bring a great deal of happiness to Moss. More than anything I trust them all 100% with my husband Brian.
Reply from Alison Foreman, Commercial Director at Barton Brook Care HomeThank you very much for writing such a positive review, and praising our Moss care team so highly for their knowledge and their kind and caring approach to resident care. As a friend of one of the residents at Barton Brooke Care Home, I've had the pleasure of visiting regularly-and I can honestly say it's a truly special place. The home has a lovely, welcoming atmosphere and offers an impressive range of activities that bring joy and stimulation to the residents' day-to-day
lives.

One of the standout features is the on-site café, which feels just like a high-street café you'd visit outside-it's a fantastic touch that brings a real sense of normality and comfort. The carers are not only incredibly attentive but also genuinely involved. They don't just provide care; they participate in activities and really connect with the residents, treating them with dignity, warmth, and respect.

It's clear that Barton Brooke isn't just a care home-it's a true home from home. The dedication and kindness of the staff shine through in every visit, and it gives me great peace of mind to know my friend is in such good hands.

Reply from Alison Foreman, Commercial Director at Barton Brook Care HomeThank you very much for this wonderfully appreciative post. My dad arrived at this place on August 29th 2024. In the short time he was there he had 11 falls, pushed to the ground twice with injuries, lost 1/2 stone in weight, he was a very slim man. Went missing twice, staff unaware of his whereabouts, sat with a blanket over him with vomit and no socks on,
he was freezing. Cup of tea in his room green moldy. Caught an infection, his bed was broken, my husband had to fix it. Caught another infection which lead to Sepsis. He was rushed to hospital where he stayed one week later, we were told he is now on End of Life care. Me and my husband called to this place to complain to the manager. Her response, half of these incidents were not brought to her attention. Well you all should be ashamed and embarrassed that this has happened under your watch. After being closed down once and investigated by a consumer investigating programme this needs checking again. CQC report Care, Needs improvements. Safety, Needs improvement. My dad passed away on 13th December 2024.

The staff have been extremely helpful and supportive at a difficult time for the family and work tirelessly to make sure families are kept up to date with any changes that occur. The garden cafe area is a lovely place to sit and chat when the unit is busy, there is nothing which is too much trouble

When I first arrived on Irwell, the manager was so nice to me and bent over backwards to help me out for all my needs. She gave me an excellent room with patio doors and patio. She got me sculptures of cats and chickens. She really helped me out. Not only that, she works really hard to make Irwell a
happy environment. All the staff on Irwell are really nice, decent and will help you out with anything you need. Irwell is the best unit by far. It has the best manager and staff by far. I feel lucky to be on this unit. All the staff are fantastic and wonderful and that's a fact.

My mother was a resident on Irwell House and whilst visiting, I have made friends with staff and residents and always been made very welcome. Since my mother has passed away, I have continued to visit Irwell House and kept in contact with the friends I have made there. Whilst visiting, I have seen various
activities going on and I offer a helping hand. I find the unit very clean and smelling good. Since the reintroduction of unit managers, the unit has improved.

Mum has recently moved into Barton Brook Care Home (Irwell unit) into a nursing bed. Initially respite now permanent. Mum and family had been made to feel welcome from the beginning of her stay, everybody has been very friendly.
Mum seems to be settling really well and they are meeting her care needs,
which can be challenging at times, as we could no longer meet her needs.

Mum was admitted from hospital for further assessment in relation to level of care for her dementia diagnosis. I was a little apprehensive to leave her at first as did not know what to expect but after two days, my worries were soon gone. The staff have been amazing, making sure Mum is addressed at
various times of the day and night. Always smiling and it's nice to see Mum (after two days) knows some of the staff, giving them a wave.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.293) out of 10 for Barton Brook Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 33 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.293 for Barton Brook Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (225 Excellents x 5) + (99 Goods x 4) + (42 Satisfactorys x 3) + (13 Poors x 2) + (14 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 393 Ratings = 4.293
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barton Brook Care Home is based on 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 120 registered maximum number of service users is 24, which has been reached with 29 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
