The staff were very helpful for the time my father was in there for 1 week respite. My father was very challenging with his deafness and sign language. He was very angry with us, his family and was not happy being in there. I would say I would take him back there if the staff would have him. The place
is so clean, tidy. Staff very nice. Thank you so much for looking after him.

My uncle was admitted to Westhaven for his end of life care. We can’t fault anything about his three week stay. All the staff were so friendly and caring. They did whatever he needed to make him comfortable, from getting a new bed to running out to the local shop for ice. The nurses made a point of
coming and introducing themselves to us when we visited and coped very well with his many, many visitors. His room was lovely and the whole place was always clean and tidy. We would wholeheartedly recommend Westhaven to any families looking for a care/nursing home for their relative.
Reply from Diane Lewis-Croft, Deputy manager at Westhaven Nursing & Residential HomeThank you Laura for your kind review. The staff and I feel it is a privilege to look after people especially when they are approaching the end of their life.

I have been able to get to know the staff over the past year. A very warm, caring and very much a family feel to the home. Staff who really care about the well being of my friend and this shows in their actions. Rooms are kept tidy and very clean. I feel very much at ease knowing that my friend is being
very well looked after twenty-four hours a day. She herself says how caring the staff are and how lovely it is that they can find the time to chat with her during a busy day.

My mum spent her last few days at Westhaven. The kindness, care and dignity with which the nursing staff treated her was outstanding. Mum had previously had a tough few weeks but after arriving at Westhaven, she relaxed. She had nothing but praise for how she was looked after, feeling like a ‘special
guest’. The staff made sure that my mum's wishes were listened to - which was very important to us. Each member of staff took the time to chat with mum and get to know her so she never felt alone. In addition, whilst we were going through the last 24 hours, my brothers and I were supported and cared for too. Staff managed to find a balance between giving the family time together whilst always being on hand with cups of tea, kind words and help. We will never forget the professional care and kindness our family was shown at a very difficult time. Thank you.
Reply from Maureen McDonough, Manager at Westhaven Nursing & Residential HomeThank you so much for this review at this very difficult time for you all. It was an honour to care for your mum in her last few days and the staff felt privileged that you chose Westhaven.

Staff were very approachable and helpful in a difficult time. The nurse was especially helpful and provided an extremely useful insight into my mother's care needs.
Both my brother and I are very grateful to all the staff from initial contact with the manager through to the nursing staff in the ward.
Reply from Maureen McDonough, Manager at Westhaven Nursing & Residential HomeThank you for your kind review. We were privileged to be able to care for your mum at this difficult time. Once the hospital asked me to find a nursing home for my father, I deliberately arrived late and unannounced asking to be shown around. From the start, all the staff I came across were cheerful and friendly most importantly the place did not smell of stale urine. This relatively new care home has very
adequately furnished bedrooms, large windows and en-suite bathrooms. There was no problem providing a necessary pressure sensitive mattress. My father, who was fading fast, was looked after to the end by kind and efficient staff and I would not hesitate to recommend Westhaven to others.

Outstanding home that gave us everything we could have needed for mums final few days. A genuine feeling of love and caring from all the staff, from management downwards, with nursing and caring available when we needed and privacy/discretion when we didn't. It truly felt like a home from home for mum.
Reply from Maureen McDonough, Manager at Westhaven Nursing & Residential HomeThank you for your kind review it means so much to know that we have made a difference. My darling wife was diagnosed with vascular dementia six years ago. As this cruel illness gradually deprived her of the power of speech, and then the ability to look after herself, I looked after her at home. Then a year ago she had a stroke, and medics said for her well being (and mine) she should
enter residential care. Westhaven truly became a haven. The care my wife received, transcended the professional and became movingly an expression of their love for her. Thank you so much.

Mum moved in December 2016. I was made to feel welcome anytime, and mum as if she already moved in. Mum has become frail, forgetful and has had several TIA's. The staff are wonderful! The care that she has received is second to none. She is encouraged to take part but respected if she declines. I have
lost count how often I have recommended Westhaven. A home is only as good as its staff - who are fantastic!
Reply from maureen McDonough, Manager at Westhaven Nursing & Residential HomeThank you for your comments. The staff ensure that Westhaven feels like home to our resident's and we the staff feel privileged to work in their home. It is so nice when a resident says can I go home and they mean Westhaven. Comments like this reinforces to the staff that what they do makes a difference.

My father was in for five months from May 2017. I feel his care was adequate and the staff were friendly. I do feel that the departure of staff (who organised and took part in a large part of the entertainment activities) was greatly missed and affected my father and other residents morale due to lack
of stimulation.
Reply from Maureen McDonough, Homes Manager at Westhaven Nursing & Residential HomeUnfortunately due to The Activities Co-ordinator leaving for reasons outwith her control we were without a dedicated activities Coordinator for five weeks but during this time there was extra outside entertainers brought into the home and the staff arranged daily activities even taking some residents out.

My Mum moved into Westhaven after a 2 week hospital stay. We found the whole experience of Mum being in the home as a positive experience.
Mum was in Westhaven from March to May 2017 until her death.
All of the staff were so caring, supportive and helpful to both Mum and all the family.
I can't praise
them highly enough for their help to our family during this most difficult time.
Many thanks to all who work there.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.725)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.725) out of 10 for Westhaven Nursing & Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 25 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.725 for Westhaven Nursing & Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (221 Excellents x 5) + (61 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 291 Ratings = 4.725
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Westhaven Nursing & Residential Home is based on 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 52 registered maximum number of service users is 10.4, which has been reached with 25 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
