Mum was admitted to Acorn Hollow for end-of-life care. From our first contact, when we arrived at the home to look at mum's room, the staff have been amazing. Given Mum's circumstances, they have ensured she has a quiet room. The staff have been so kind and gentle with her. The staff have been wonderful
with us, ensuring we are well fed. Mum has told us she feels happy and safe here. What more could we ask for? Acorn Hollow is a lovely place, even in such sad circumstances, and the staff now feel like friends.

Our experience of Acorn Hollow has been brilliant right from the start. The staff are exceptional, everybody including admin, housekeeping, care assistants, nurses and maintenance were friendly and only too happy to help. The level of care my mum is receiving during her end of life is wonderful.
She
doesn't eat the food, unfortunately, but it always smells/looks delicious!

We cannot thank the staff enough at Acorn Hollow some of who went above and beyond in looking after our mum who was in their care for the last year and a half of her life. They treated her with kindness, dignity and respect and most importantly made her feel so welcome and happy. As her family we would
also like to thank them for also looking after us during difficult moments and wouldn't hesitate in recommending Acorn Hollow to anyone who needs care.

The most wholesome, caring, loving environment. Seeing my grandad in a home was such a hard transition, but Acorn Hollow haw shown this is the safest, friendliest place for a loved one to be. All the carers are so professional and create such amazing relationships and a friendship. Rachel and Fliss
are incredible assets and leaders. The staff are exceptional at their job, I know when I leave him, he's in a place he can happily call home.

Unfortunately they forgot to give Lionel his lunch one day and he had told me before on two occasions that he hadn't had any dinner but thought he was confused due to dementia and Alzheimer's . Also arrived one day to find Lionel struggling with a table which was just about in His grasp but at his side
with his dinner left on it. Eats with a spoon but regularly have to ask for it. His teeth are nit cleaned regularly.

My father moved into Acorn Hollow following a stay in hospital. Negotiating the discharge from hospital and transfer to the home was made so much easier thanks to the support of Acorn Hollow's Administration team who were knowledgeable, efficient and very helpful. All the staff in the home were kind,
caring and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. My father was treated with courtesy and respect.
Unfortunately, his stay was only two weeks before he died but I cannot fault the care he received in that time. My siblings and I were always made welcome and could visit Dad at any time.

Acorn Hollow Care Home has become home for my mum since May 2024. She has settled very well and I visit daily. In six months, I have seen great kindness and compassion. I feel that the staff look after me just as much as they do Mum. Mum gets mixed up and can do very little for herself. The staff know
she loves to sing. They sing with and to her and she says she feels loved by them. This is a caring, well-run home.

Have settled well. The staff are very kind and pleasant. Sometimes have communication problems. The food is varied and on the whole very nice. Just wish it could be served warmer, cold food is not very appetising. An interesting programme of activities is offered every week. I like the fact that family
and friends can visit at any time.
Reply from Clare Sheehan, Careline Advisor at Acorn Hollow Care HomeThank you for your kind review, we value all feedback as this helps us to improve our service where required. It is always a pleasure to receive warm feedback about our staff at Acorn Hollow. We are sorry to hear the food is served cooler than you would prefer; we do have safe systems of work to ensure food is served at the correct temperature. We will increase our oversight to ensure all is in order and we will look to ensure plates are prewarmed before food service as this may also be a factor. We will pass on to the staff team your kind comments regarding varied activities and our open policy to visiting. Once again, thank you for your review.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.650)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.650) out of 10 for Acorn Hollow Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 20 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.650 for Acorn Hollow Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (162 Excellents x 5) + (62 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 234 Ratings = 4.65
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Acorn Hollow Care Home is based on 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 48 registered maximum number of service users is 9.6, which has been reached with 20 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
