We really enjoy coming to see our work friend, now an elderly resident in your beautiful home. We are made to feel so welcome. The reception/cafe is so upmarket and her room is always very clean and tidy. She enjoys her meals with a little help. Her bedroom view is really amazing, she says she is most happy with all the staff and feels safe, for this we are most thankful. The home is set in the most wonderful grounds/gardens.
We thank you from us and her family members.

All food overcooked.
Lost items of clothing.
No help/care - everyone says "just a minute". Turns into 35mins or 1 hour.
Only one shower in 8 days. Bed not changed at all.
To say "I know" is not enough.

Thank you for your comments. I was on holiday at the time of your stay, so now on my return I am investigating your concerns. I am sorry your stay with us was not a success, but can assure you that I am giving your comments my full attention.
Overall Laurel Bank Care Home is good. Often care staff level is low. They seem to disappear altogether. There have been a couple of instances where no care staff at all and resident had fallen so visitors had to help! Nursing care is good high levels of staff turnover. The chef is brilliant.

When my friend is ill and in his room, I have found him in bloody sheets. I have had to ask for glycerin lollipops to clean his mouth, a dressing for an injury on his hand, medication and cold drinks have been left by his bed. Staff working 17-hour shifts.

Thank you for your comments. I have now looked into your concerns and have spoken to the family and the issues are resolved. We like to deal with any problems as they arise, so they can be addressed quickly. It is difficult to please all residents regarding activities, but we do have a varied programme and try to personalise these. Our longest shift is 12.5hrs, but in exceptional circumstances the staff may offer to work extended hours, but this is not normal practice.

They have a friendly family approach to care and my mother considers the staff as friends, not carers. We looked at many homes but are so glad we chose this one for my mother's ongoing care. 2 years into her care and she is very happy and comfortable in her surroundings and with the wonderful people who look after her.
We have increased our activity hours with the aim of having more scope for personalised activities.

My Dad has been treated with love and respect at all times. We were fearful of the care that he would receive before he was admitted but we needn't have worried. From the welcome at reception, through the way the admin is handled right through to the bedside care, we have been truly impressed. I would have NO hesitation at all recommending Laurel Bank to anyone.

My mother had no complaints about the care or food. I really felt that everyone tried very hard to make us both feel comfortable and at home. Even as my mother became more ill, everyone still treated her the same.
Food - not at all enjoyable (as is most institutional food)
No staff at reception (entrance) at weekends!

The reception area is manned Monday to Friday. Out of hours and weekends access to the home is a bell on the outside, which when rung, staff respond to by asking who is there and opening the door. The coffee area is available in Reception. Unfortunately, at this time we have not the ability to offer a receptionist on duty every day. Monday to Friday is the busiest time for visitors and for GP visits etc, so this is the priority at this time; of course this may change in the future.

The initial phone call with the home manager inspired confidence that the care and services offered would be excellent, which they proved to be. The staff are all keen, caring and efficient in their duties, giving individual tailored care but taking the time to communicate to the family when they visit at an appropriate level. The home environment is clean and bright, any problems rapidly solved by the maintenance team. The food is freshly cooked with plenty of choices, individual meals are provided if required, also allowing family to eat with their parents at Christmas, which was wonderful. I could not recommend this home more highly. Everyone from the laundry staff, administrators, catering and care staff all strive to offer a wonderful service making me feel confident. My elderly parents are very very well looked after.

We wish she could have had longer there to enjoy everything that Laurel Bank has to offer.
The care Father received in Laurel Bank throughout his three year stay could not have been better. From his first day, all the staff did everything they could to make him feel at home, and latterly, when he needed more help, were always thoughtful and caring.

Hi, my name is Lyndsay, and I am the General Manager here at Laurel Bank.
I am an RGN and have worked in the care sector for over 20 years. I moved over to Lancaster in 2019 from the North East to work for Barchester.
I began my career as a care assistant in 1998 and found that I enjoyed the environment so much that I trained to be a nurse, then transferred to management.
As a manager of a care home, every day is different and, at Barchester, we endeavor to enhance the lives of all residents on a daily basis. We incorporate their life history's and interests when planning activities in the home so that they can live life to the fullest.

Hello, my name is Jamie, I am the deputy manager, here at Laurel Bank.
I have worked in the home for a number of years and joined initially as one of the home's activities coordinators and then went on to becoming a care practitioner, then I got promoted in 2021 to deputy manager!
I absolutely love my role and especially getting to know our residents and supporting the team in the delivery of high standards of care. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends.

Hi, my name is Deborah, and I am the Home Administrator here at Laurel Bank.

Hi, my name is Sally, and I am one of the Clinical Leads at Laurel Bank.
I was previously a registered manager for 6 years with another company & decided to follow my heart and return to a nursing role as this also provides a great work life balance.
My passion is around end of life care and working with the professional and caring team collaboratively at Laurel Bank. I feel I now have my "dream job" in a wonderful care home.

Hi, my name is Jaimy Lee, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Laurel Bank.
I have worked in the care home industry for over nine years. I started working at Laurel Bank in 2018 as a carer, and then, I was promoted to senior carer which I thoroughly enjoyed.
I moved over to activities in 2020, as I was asked to help out and help encourage residents to join in. During this, I realised how much fun it could be and chose to stay on and got promoted to Activities Coordinator.
I love my role as every day is different and I try to make sure the residents are happy and engage in meaningful activities, this also helps support the transition for new residents.

I joined the team here at Laurel Bank in 2020 as a second chef but got promoted to Head Chef!
I love cooking for the residents and tailoring my plans for each individual resident. I especially enjoy putting on spreads for the many parties and gatherings we have. Every day is different at Laurel Bank, and I really love the challenge!

I started working for Barchester in March 2024.
I had my own business for 20 years as a builder and fancied a change. When I came for my interview for Laurel Bank I knew straight away that this is where I wanted to be. The staff were so friendly and you could see that it was all about the residents I wanted to be part of a team like that. I do all sorts in my role like painting, fixing things and even charity events like car washing day. I look forward to my future here at Laurel Bank.

Karen is our resident ambassador for the home because she is helpful with a kind nature to other residents.
Karen goes out of her way to make others feel welcomed into the home and is always popping in to see her fellow residents to have a chat, see hoe they are doing and share a bottle of wine! Karen is fantastic at this role!

Ian does the resident volunteer role so he can supervise the maintenance team. He likes to make sure that jobs are being done correctly around the home; he helps other residents have a good time, and he likes to accompany the maintenance team on trips out.

Reggie's role at Laurel Bank is to be a therapy dog for all of the residents, staff and family. He guarantees to brighten everyone's day and is very popular in the home
