My husband came to Ferndale Court for palliative care in February following a distressing month in hospital. As soon as I entered the home for the first time, I knew that he was going to be in safe and caring hands. He is being cared for by the most amazing staff, who are kind to my whole family. We can sleep at night now knowing he is in safe hands.

Since Mum moved to Ferndale, I don't have to worry as much as I did; she is well cared for, the staff are very friendly, and one lady has made sure Mum is ok and has cared for her well, and all staff have helped Mum to be the way she is today. A massive difference since living at home.

I've been here since November 2020. The one thing I like about Ferndale Court is the activities and entertainment. The food is good. I like how the carers treat me. My mental health has improved. I feel happier. The bonus is now that I see all my family. I'm really starting to enjoy my life again.

Staff very helpful, friendly and relaxed. At times there seems to be a lack of staff. It would be nice to see more staff helping out. They are all working very hard.

Water beakers are very stained with tea, dishwasher? Staff very happy bunch which is great. All very willing. Bigger name badges would be good so residents can more easily identify who is who. Would help visitors as well. Personally, I like to use somebody's name but it is hard to remember sometimes. Overall: very happy.

During the pandemic the home has made every effort to safeguard its residents and staff, as well as keeping us on the outside informed of the steps it was taking to do so. It has obviously been a frustrating time for all parties concerned (not least the residents) so I can only thank the staff and management for their perseverance, efforts and hard work over the last twelve months. The recent re-introduction of socially distanced inside visits has been much appreciated, as well as the organisation that goes into it.

First of all, the place is clean and tidy. The staff are very accommodating. The food is anything you want to eat; the chef will cook to order. This basically is the safest place I have lived in, and in my life, I have travelled all over the world.

My uncle moved into Ferndale in April 2020 into a horrible room. By August, he could no longer swallow, he had dementia and the alarm was way out of reach. He went downhill rapidly and because of Covid, couldn't see him to see week by week what was happening. I was distraught when I saw him and couldn't understand why he wasn't being sedated. He died a horrible death and I am still struggling because I couldn't help him because of Covid.

Overall Experience

The staff are very friendly. However, some staff were oblivious to Mother's needs in regards to her sleeping position (more elevated, than prone). They found it difficult to offer fluids and food, even after prompting from family on type of fluid and food. This seemed to be a communication problem throughout the staff. Dressing seemed to be a problem. Very often Mother would be wearing clothes not belonging to her. Communication of what stage Mother's healthcare was at was also disjointed.

My dad's initial experience of living in a care home has been fully supported by careing and empathetic management and staff. Management have explained and reassured our family every step of my dad's journey. The staff have a professional yet friendly manner and are quick to provide answers to questions and are very reassuring to my dad who is both blind and has E.M.I needs. He has settled in very well due to the manner and approachability of all involved at Ferndale from the office to management. They all treat dad with dignity and I couldn't wish for a better environment.

Overall Experience

Our mum was admitted to Ferndale in September 2019. Shortly after admission, she was hospitalised with a previous condition. Unfortunately, she deteriorated while she was in hospital. She was discharged as medically fit and returned to Ferndale to continue her care. The care, support and consideration shown by all the staff at Ferndale was more than we could ever have hoped for. On our mum's final days, as a family, we were welcomed into the home to stay at any time and to visit Mum at any time. As a family this gave us time to spend with Mum over her lasting hours. This was invaluable for our family as it brought us all together with our Mum and Dad to say our final goodbyes to Mum. This made our mums passing that little bit more bearable to be able to feel like we were at 'home' rather than in a home. We would have no hesitation in recommending Ferndale as a care home to anybody who asked us what our opinion was. Thank you all to the amazing staff.

Overall Experience
Our Mum, unfortunately, had a short stay in Ferndale before she passed away. Mum went there in September 2019 and passed away on 2nd November. During her stay, the staff were supportive, kind, caring and professional and this was not only to Mum but to us as a family.
We were spending a great deal of time at the care home along with Dad and we felt like it was our home as well as Mum's. The staff were constantly checking on Mum even though she was on bed care they sometimes dressed her so it didn't look like she was just in her nightclothes constantly. These small things helped us as a family, as we felt she was still keeping her dignity.
Mum required nursing and she was given that with a lot of compassion and care. We could not have asked more of the staff at the home they were all so caring right across the board. We will always be grateful for the lovely, peaceful ending Mum had and this was down to the staff at the home.

From our experience, we would not hesitate to recommend Ferndale.

My father has had a relatively short stay at Ferndale but as a family, we all wished he had been able to be there longer than in hosptial. What a fabulous home with fabulous management and staff. They have been so good with my dad and would recommend Ferndale to anyone considering a care home for their relative.
