Burley Hall is equipped for residential and nursing needs, as well as offering care for more complex conditions such as dementia. Care packages are individualised and can include convalescence, respite and palliative requirements.

This stylish nursing home has been refurbished and extended to maximise its care capabilities, and has been modernised while still being full of Georgian charm and splendour. Enjoyable lake and valley views are visible from en-suite bedrooms, and there is a sensory garden for adults with dementia. All bedrooms feature ensuite facilities and a 24 hour call system.

A seasonal menu includes an extensive selection of dishes, while snacks, drinks and homemade cakes are available throughout the day. There is even a night-bite menu as the provider looks to make sure residents always feel nourished and hydrated, as part of a healthy diet.

The activities schedule is tailored to residents with differing mental and physical health. ‘Pets as Therapy’ are regular visitors, as are entertainers.

I am an advocate for Burley Hall Care Home. It is very clean and well presented, as predicted it has become my second home and most important, my wife (in her mind) contented and makes no complaint.
The rooms vary from good to very good but not excellent for that rating I would expect air conditioning and auto ventilation and again the dining room and lounge could have a bright light corner for those who want and can read papers/magazines. The latter being easily rectified.

I have found the care given at Burley Hall to be really very good. The majority of the staff are excellent. However, there has been one member of staff who has been missing for the past few months. She is an excellent member of staff who knows the needs of all the residents and family members' names which did make you feel very welcome and "at home". Burley Hall would be a much better place with this staff member present.

My wife has been in 13 care homes over the last 4 years. No home has been able to care for her as Burley Hall has. It is not a job with the staff here it is a vocation. I must make a special mention to certain staff who have made my wife's life so much more bearable and happy.

Thank you so much for your review and I'm glad your wife is happy there and being well-cared for with dignity and respect.

The regional support manager has been exceptional in bringing Burley Hall back to where it needs to be. Valuing staff more greatly and avoiding situations where jobs just get done rather than getting done with care and quality. A sense of team amongst the staff has emerged and the atmosphere is more energetic and focused. My mother is very happy and feels well cared for. She feels like an individual and that her wishes and preferences are respected.

My Mum moved into Burley Hall as she needed nursing care following a placement in a residential unit in Leeds. From day 1 to the day she passed away in Dec 2017 she was treated with the utmost care.
Staff at all levels were friendly and responsive to her needs. The building was to a high standard with great outlooks.

Really we could not fault it.

We as a family, are absolutely delighted at the care my mother is receiving at Burley Hall. The staff are highly professional and my mother's complex medication regime is being handled extremely well. There is a genuine understanding and kindness shown towards my mother by the care staff. We have also found the new manager and the clinical lead both to be excellent, and extremely helpful.

The home has a happy industrious buzz about it and a very friendly atmosphere. There is also a regular varied programme of entertainment and activities for residents.

My mother tells me how kind and caring the staff are towards her, she feels very safe there and enjoys her food.
She commented to me "this home is just one hundred percent, I couldn't be anywhere better, I feel the staff make an effort to know the real me aside from my illness".

Burley Hall goes way beyond our expectations and is more than we could ever wish for in terms of my mother's care.

My mother lived at Burley Hall for nine years, first in the Dementia unit before being moved to nursing care. Latterly she was bed-ridden and unable to communicate. She was treated with dignity, care and kindness. She obviously enjoyed her meals and was always clean and tidy whenever we visited. The staff seemed to relate to her and be able to judge her situation well.

During the last fortnight of our mother's life, my sister and I found the nursing and care staff to be sympathetic and understanding, taking phone calls from us and keeping my sister updated if they felt the situation was changing.

Admin/management went through a slightly rocky period but this has been resolved very satisfactorily and my final impression of Burley Hall is entirely positive.

My elderly mother (93) was admitted at very short notice. The manager found her a lovely room and the staff were very caring and attentive. The home seemed well run and my mother was happy there. Unfortunately, she only lived for three more days but we were pleased she was safe and well looked after.

The staff at Burley Hall provide an excellent standard of care and support for my mother. The meals are well presented and delicious. The bedrooms and communal rooms are clean and attractive. There is a regular programme of activities, and also special events such as a brass band afternoon.

Burley Hall is supposed to be a top class home. The fees charged are certainly top end. However, the facilities in the dementia wing are not top class. My father's bedroom is very small and on a different floor to the main lounge and there is nowhere else to take him when visiting.

Generally, I find the staff pleasant and helpful, but often there are too few of them.

Communication from the home is very poor. Often events organised come and go with our knowing, surely e-mails could be sent in advance of major events.

Invoices are poor. There is no breakdown of how the daily rate is arrived at. My father has a CHC contribution but only the net contribution is shown as the day rate.

The care staff are kind, caring and conscientious and my father has been as settled and comfortable as he possibly can be. The contrast with the previous nursing home could not be more marked. The staff listen to and address your concerns and there is always a member of staff around to talk to.
Only concern is that the accounts are not transparent, not very well communicated, inflexible and systems need to be updated. There appears to be a policy of only communicating with one member of the resident's family, despite many requests to be kept informed.

A lovely home with good care. My mother has a light room with sliding glass doors onto a patio. She is very happy there. Unlike many homes there is no unpleasant smell. The carers are polite and helpful.

Care staff are excellent but find it increasingly difficult to give the level of care they would wish, due to time and numbers. Record keeping obviously essential, but the increasing amount is minimising the care element.
Staff make assisted feeding comfortable and unobtrusive - an example of excellence.
Mother is compromised at snack times without assistance or does not access the drink and food.
Room: Plants left to die, flowers not thrown away when they are dead (or not topped up with water when they are not) and in my mother's case, letters unopened.

Lack of stimulation: relevant television/videos/older films/musicals/readings/music. Mother unable to activate television or radio: ask relatives or residents what programmes the resident(s) would like, then ensuring the television is put on would be ideal.
More outside agencies providing activities or tasks - U3A, church groups, utilising volunteers from local schools - residents less isolated/ part of the community.
