Our mum lived at the home from August 2019. The home provided a family atmosphere with a high level of care and dignity from all staff. Facilities included a good mix of activities and entertainment. Rooms of a good standard. The home also offered a good line of communication to the family during challenging times (COVID-19). Would definitely recommend it. My mother spent 2 months at Carr Gate, in which time she developed severe pressure ulcers on her heels which were not documented, treated or cared for by the staff at Carr Gate.
During her last few days at Carr Gate, mum deteriorated rapidly and was bed-ridden.

It's my belief that staff did not turn/change mum's position over the 48 hours of her being bed-ridden as no turning charts were completed by staff.

In your letter of complaint, you advised that you did not believe that pressure ulcers can form to the severity that your Mother has experienced in a 48 hour period. The safeguarding officer who was investigating liaised with the District Nursing team and they confirmed that this tissue damage was not evident when they last assessed your Mother two days before she became acutely unwell. Your Mother developed pressure damage to her heels when her health deteriorated rapidly which compromised her skin integrity, this was exacerbated when she became bed-bound and was unable to manage her own positional changes. You advised us that you do not believe that staff undertook positional changes. I do not substantiate that your Mother did not have any positional changes carried out over a 48 hour period as the pressure damage would have been extensively worse to all bony prominence on her body if the staff had not managed her positional changes.As part of learning lessons from any concerns raised, we strive to make improvements, as part of my investigation, I discovered that the staff did not record positional changes on a supplementary document, despite undertaking these care interventions. These findings will be shared with the team in team meetings so that care provided can be evidenced moving forward.
I hope this provides further clarity but of course, should you wish to gain an alternative opinion, you may choose to seek advice from the tissue viability nurses if you need to further ascertain the mechanism of injury of pressure damage.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback to us. We are pleased to hear that your Mother enjoyed her stay with us and you found the quality of the care delivered to a high standard. I have noted your comments about the décor and discussed this with the Housekeeping Team and Maintenance Operative. We have identified rooms that would benefit from a refresh. I have discussed your feedback around activities with our Wellbeing Co-ordinators and we have recently reviewed the hours they work throughout the day so they can provide a robust program of activities for our Residents. Once again I would like to thank you for providing feedback to us, as this helps us improve our service for our Residents.

Mum has been a resident at Carr Gate for almost three months now and is settling well.
Whenever I visit I form the impression that Carr Gate is a well run, well-maintained home that does it's best to meet the needs of the residents.

My mum was in the nursing section of the care home. The rooms and facilities were excellent, very good standard (like a home) and very clean. My mum didn't leave her room due to her illness, therefore sometimes, she was forgotten about with food and drink and sometimes it was cold when it reached her. The service my mum received sometimes depended on which staff were working that day, although everyone was polite and caring with my mum only certain staff bathed, washed her and checked up on her. I marked this as excellent due to 4 specific staff members and how amazing they were. I really felt that they genuinely cared so much about my mum and it made me feel at ease when I wasn't there and they were working that day. Also, the other reason I scored as excellent was the care and patience the staff showed towards my dad while he was spending every day with my mum - it was brilliant.

My concern is the state of the building, the central heating is unreliable, there isn't any heating in the bathroom. Some of the rooms are quite small.
The window frames need attention, some don't open.
On a positive note, nobody ever says 'no you can't do that'. All staff are very caring....

My mother is in Carr Gate nursing home. They recently got in a brand new management team. I am more than impressed with the massive difference that this new team has had on the overall quality of the home. The care is outstanding, compassionate and individualised. Staffing is consistent and attends to each individual resident’s needs. I am informed on a very regular basis about mum’s well-being. I have peace of mind knowing that my mother is getting the best quality care. The home itself is cosy, clean and very welcoming. Thank you to all the nurses, carers, staff and management at Carr Gate!

I found the home warm and welcoming. Management greeted me on arrival and offered refreshments. I looked around the home and found it to be well presented, clean and tidy. Staff were friendly and smiling, rooms were nicely set up and big and roomy.

I visit my friend every Thursday afternoon. The home is warm in welcome, the staff are very friendly and always happy to chat.
They also include me, at tea time, with a nice bun or piece of cake and a cup of tea. I must say the food and baking is wonderful.

Recently visited the home and my first impressions are good, the home is clean, tidy and pleasant. Management was friendly, approachable and were happy to speak to me. On arrival, I was offered refreshments and fresh cakes baked that day. Music playing on the units and residents seen laughing and smiling with staff. Nothing is ever too much for the care staff, they are friendly and helpful, although they have a lot to do. Lovely home and nice people.

Thank you for your review of our care home; we appreciate all feedback received as it helps us to improve our service where required. I am pleased to know that the service provided for your relative was very good and that the staff, in particular, were for the most part excellent however you felt that there were not enough staff to do what was expected of them. I am happy to inform you that our staffing levels are reviewed every month or when needed, depending on the needs of our Residents. Where it is felt that an extra member of staff is needed, the home will always provide necessary cover.
