The Meadows Care Home

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for the care and compassion shown to my mother during her short time with you. Throughout her stay, it was clear that she was in safe and capable hands. Both the nursing and care staff consistently demonstrated kindness, patience, and professionalism, and
this gave our family great reassurance during what was a difficult period. She always said the staff were very kind and she trusted each and everyone who cared for her on a daily basis. The standard of care provided was of the highest level, and it was evident that genuine respect and dignity were at the heart of everything you do. We are deeply appreciative of the warmth and attentiveness shown not only to my mother, but also to our family. It made a real difference to us all. Please pass on our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in her care.
Reply from Leah Durham, Registered Manager at The Meadows Care HomeDear Heather,
Thank you so much for your thoughtful and heartfelt message. Your kind words truly mean a great deal to us all.
It was a privilege to care for your mother, and we are deeply touched to hear that both she and your family felt supported, reassured, and cared for during her time with us. Knowing that she felt safe, trusted the staff, and experienced kindness and dignity every day is the greatest compliment we could receive.
We understand how difficult this time has been for you and your family, and we are grateful that we were able to provide some comfort and support along the way. Your appreciation will be shared with all of the nursing and care teams, who will be incredibly moved by your words.
On behalf of everyone here, please accept our sincere condolences and thanks for taking the time to write to us. Your message will remain very special to all involved in your mother's care.
With warmest regards,

Leah Durham

St Mary's Care Home

My Gran spent the last 8 weeks of her life in this carehome and we as a family cannot thank the staff enough for the care that they provided. They were compassionate and caring to the very end and went above and beyond the requirements of a carehome. The food and drinks were good, the rooms are nice
and comfortable, the little extras like the hairdressers, the beautiful and secure courtyard and the activities make this carehome stand out above others. The way the staff secured and lined the corridors to show respect, privacy and dignity for her final journey out was outstanding. As a family we wanted each and everyone one of you to know how much we appreciated every single thing you did for her and how truly grateful we are. Keep up the fantastic work.
Reply from Sarah Grinell, Manager at St Mary's Care HomeThank you so much for your lovely review and kind words, I will pass this over to the team, your Gran was a lovely lady who will be sadly missed.

My father John (Jack) recently passed away there. Cargate could not have been a more fitting place for him to spend his last few months.
Caring, attentive and dignified is an understatement. They went over and above to make Dad's final days amazing as well as looking after the family.

Interaction

and communication always was at the highest level.

I'd mention the staff involved but the list is long and glorious.

Thank you all xx

Reply from Kimberley Howroyd, Home Administrator at Carr Gate Care HomeThank you for your kind words. It was a pleasure taking care of Jack and meeting his wonderful family. Jack will be missed dearly.

My father was a resident for over 2.5 years and we have nothing but praise for the staff that work here. They are kind and caring and nothing is too much trouble, regularly going above and beyond. My father was receiving nursing care and we found both the nurses and carers to be very attentive and caring.
The management and administration of the home is very professional and activity co-ordinators are enthusiastic and try to offer a wide range of activities and events to suit all needs. The home was always clean and tidy with the lounge areas being recently redecorated. The court yard garden area provides a pleasant outside space for residents to enjoy.
Overall all staff work really hard and create a very welcoming and caring setting for both residents and families.
Reply from Zoe Williams, Administrator at The Meadows Care HomeThank you so much for the review. We miss your father and are pleased we made his final years as comfortable as possible.

After being discharged from hospital to another care home which wasn't fit for purpose we contacted St Mary's to see if they could meet my dad's needs. From initial contact to my dad being admitted we were kept informed of everything and staff were more than welcoming answering any questions or concerns
and reassuring us that he was in safe hands. I have visited every day sometimes twice a day and no matter what time I visit Dad is always clean, tidy and comfortable. He can't recommend the staff enough saying they go "above and beyond". The carers do a difficult job with a smile, empathy and compassion. In the nicest possible way I hope it's a short stay for him but whilst he is there it's reassuring that the care he recieves is to such a high standard and that nothing we ask is ever too much trouble. Thank you genuinely doesn't seem enough.
Reply from Emily Brizzalari, Manager at St Mary's Care HomeThank you so much for the nice comments, your dad has been a joy to look after, he is so grateful for everything the staff help him with, they really enjoy having him in the home.

This care home has to be the most promising one that I've visited. The staff are so friendly, kind, caring, and welcoming. Nothing is ever too much. They demonstrate their care by their words and body language, treating each and every one of the residents with the utmost care and dignity. The staff
always make time to chat and offer a drink every visit. The atmosphere is calm and safe. You can just feel the staff enjoy their work. Excellent!

My father was in St Mary's for approximately 14 months, before sadly passing away on the 27th of April 2024.
Whilst in St Mary's he was treated with dignity and respect, any problems that arose I was contacted by the staff anytime day or night.
The staff were always very professional and welcoming
which must be very hard at times for them whilst working in a very challenging environment.
The last few days of my dad's life were made very comfortable for him by making sure he was in no pain or agitated in any way.
After my father had passed all my questions were answered and we were treated in a very professional manner.
The staff have all been excellent and are a massive credit to St Mary's Care Home.
All I can say is a massive thanks to all of you.
Reply from Emily Manager, Manager at St Mary's Care HomeThank you for your kind words I have passed this on to all the staff. Dad was an absolute pleasure to care for and I know the staff was very fond of him. I know the staff was also very fond of another particular person, please tell her to come and visit anytime, the staff will always gladly have the kettle on and waiting for her. Please take care of yourselves and you know where we are if you need anything at all.

Wonderful home could maybe do with more staff but the staff who are there are brilliant very friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble for them. Mum is very happy there and is well looked after. Plenty of activities for those who want to join in, and any concerns are dealt with, with care and
compassion, staff always keep us relatives up to date with what’s going on. We couldn’t be happier with Mum's progress since arriving at the home.

My husband has been in hospital for twenty-six hours with a catheter-related UTI. Before admission into A and E, he had ongoing pressure sores to the rear and to his heel. One week later the pressure sores, particularly the one on the backside, is now deep and the skin is split open. The virtual team
was checking on him now it is down to the District Nurses and thank goodness for the District Nurses. The District nurses are not happy with the basic care of emptying catheter bags and general care. The air pressure was not on my husband's bed! My husband is in pain or discomfort every day. He is now eating better and he is being prevented from falling out of bed. However, the state of the pressure sore is unforgivable.

On 06.02.2023, my brother pressed the button to get the attention of the staff because he wanted to do a number two. My brother is bed bound so he can't get to the toilet, it was 45 minutes before anybody came. When a person came, my brother told them he want to do a number two, this person went off
to tell someone else and it was 20 minutes before someone came to him. To me, this is not good enough but I do appreciate that the staff are very busy. Also, my brother is on oxygen, what if there had been something wrong with the oxygen?
Reply from Julie Caygill, Hospital Liaison Team Administrator at Carr Gate Care HomeWe are very sorry your brother had this experience. This is not the experience we would expect our residents to have and this has been addressed with the team on duty and the wider team to ensure this does not happen again.

Mum was fast-tracked to Carr Gate from hospital after a massive stroke. She spent seven weeks there being very well looked after by all staff from cleaners to head nurse. I even had a meeting with the head chef, as he wanted to make sure he was doing all he could too! Any issues were quickly resolved,
anything that we needed for Mum was there within five minutes! Mum was unable to speak, but she still managed to get across what she needed and staff always on hand to help. The only thing thing I think could be improved, is changing carpets to hard flooring for ease of cleaning. We'd like to thank all the staff for their hard work, during a very stressful time for us.
Reply from Julie Caygill, Hospital Liaison Team Administrator at Carr Gate Care HomeThank you for your generous feedback. Our staff team are pleased they have been able to support you and your loved one to such a high standard. Your feedback around the type of flooring has been listened to and we do change flooring where this is required for people's needs, however, some people still prefer carpet. We will continue to work with residents to meet their needs and preferences. Thank you for taking the time to pass on your thanks and appreciation.
