Overall Experience

My mother recently moved into Abigail Lodge, she suffers from dementia but has always been an independent lady.

The move was quite distressing for her which is understandable given that she was moving out of her home that she has lived in for over 20 years, but the staff at Abigail Lodge have been fantastic, they have made her feel very welcome and part of the family.

Before my mother moved in, we were encouraged and supported by the manager and staff to furnish her room in a way that would be familiar to her to make her feel more at home, she was allowed to take her budgie in with her which meant a great deal to her and the family because it was causing her distress as to what was going to happen to him once she moved into the care home.

Now that she is in the home, she is enjoying the home cooked meals and the friendly banter with the staff. She is pleased that she can still have her independence and privacy when she desires it and that the family can visit any time of the day or night.

My 92year old mum who has Alzheimer's has been very well cared for by all staff while at Abigail Lodge all her medical needs are met and prompt action is taken if she is ever ill. All the staff are very caring. Mum is happy with the food. Any problems are sorted out immediately. The activities co-ordinator works very hard and organises interesting activities for the residents. Dogs are allowed in the home which most of the residents enjoy seeing.

This is my report after visiting for 3 years- four hours each day. One gets a good insight into the workings on the workings in the home. I would not nominate any 1 carer as they all deserve an "Oscar" for their devotion to the residents. I know it is hard work and exhausting and demanding. Believe me the residents are loved and cared for. Hugs, kisses and laughs are in abundance and plentiful. Luckily the new manager is a gem, very approachable, door always open, so caring to all staff included. Also we still have a deputy manager who loves and cares, also we are lucky to have them both. You know as I write this I am having a few tears as I know how lucky we are in this home and experience the atmosphere yourself. There but for the grace of God, so true. I believe in this home, residents are content, it is filled with love. Manager tells me there is always room for improvement "that's her."

My husband has been in this care home for 13 months now and I can honestly say I would never wish him to be anywhere else for nursing care. Abigail Lodge is like home from home as far as the love and caring goes. Its one big happy family. The staff are there for you straight away if there is any problem. My husband is kept clean, shaved and teeth always brushed. He is fed good food and always has plenty to drink. Clean clothes every day, the laundry is excellent as long as your name is on each item. My mother in law is in the downstairs part and she says the staff are all wonderful and they are.

I find that the company Four Seasons will go that extra mile for me and my family if I have any concerns with my brother. The carers are excellent in their job, and nothing is a problem for them. I feel that I must put this in writing as the home Abigail Lodge has exceptional staff.

My dad has been in Abigail Lodge for a year now and within this time I have been very satisfied that he is well cared for in every way. The staff are very attentive to his needs and have a very personable approach, giving him the utmost respect and retaining his dignity. The staff are also very supportive to myself and my family and have become our friends too, showing us support, empathy and understanding at this difficult time in our lives. Thank you.
